great experience
Course was nice and clean. Not to crowded friendly and level ,greens in good condition. Would definitely play it again.
Military course!
This place is a cow pasture, literally. Clumps of grass in the middle of EVERY fairway. The Super puts WAY TOO MUCH water on the pasture.
People who play here have NO idea what a real golf course is like. This pasture is for low ranking alcoholics who just want a place to drink beer in the sunshine. The older retired folks who play just do not have the money to play anywhere else, so they come here.
Because of the two kinds of players mentioned above rounds are typically 5-6 hours long, no kidding, read the other reviews!
The pasture could charge 5 bucks (with a cart) and I would not play here again!
Too SLow
Nice course. 5hours on a day course was not crowded. Group in front was ridiculous...could not spell ready golf.
Soft Fairways
Greens were in excellent condition. Lots of soggy spots from watering in fairways and roughs. Tees and fairways had fescue which made lies very fluffy. Had to get use to not taking divot.
Great for intermediates
Long course with generally wide fairways. Nice greens. The score card does not match the tee boxes. Score card show Blue, White & Red. But the course has Blue, White, Green, & gold.
Problem With Price
The GolfNow rate was advertised as $22, due at course. However, the employee stated that I needed to pay $28 if I wanted to ride. Unfortunately I did not take my receipt to the course. We discussed the issue and the employee insisted that he was correct. On return home I checked my online receipt from GolfNow. It clearly stated that a cart was included.
Interesting location...Miramar airbase
Played Torrey Pines and watched the airforce activity heading out over the ocean and wanted a closer look at the variety of aircraft and Miramar did not disappoint. Course was flat and easy walk, layout was fairly straightforward but greens were fast and undulating. Par 3's were challenging with water or bunkers protected. Playing on an airforce base makes for some great pairing up when playing as a single and made for a great social event. Rentals were not great (wedge, 9-6 irons couple of hybrids and a 3 wood and driver..all cheap entry level clubs but when you don't bring your clubs..they worked just fine).
Excellent greens
This course has come full circle best greens in the county fairways are now green and in great shape. Best value in the county!
Great Course for Walking
Excellent course for walkers. Grass choice in fairways and approaches makes course play longer than its listed 6800 yds. Greens roll true and are in outstanding condition. Course is in good condition but you can see where recent military budget cuts have affected physical plant maintenance. Base staff--Marine and civilian--were friendly and welcoming.
Memorial indeed
It's a great course, fun for both novices and experienced golfers. Staff is friendly, there-but-not-in-the-way, keeping after this beautiful facility. Greens are pristine.
Windy!!
Playing into the wind you had to club up and try to keep your shots low. Other than that it was very enjoyable. The fighter jets are a bit noisy.
3 positives 1 negative
Greens were excellent, traps and tees good, fairways below average
Fun Layout
Flat course, with a lot of parallel fairways. With the many novice players out here, can be a little dangerous. Had a ball bounce over my head on one hole. Given all that, I really enjoy Miramar. Maybe because I hadn't played it in so long and have so many memories of playing this course all the time with my Navy friend back in the 90's. I don't know. Many good holes, very good greens. Recommended at the price.
Longest Round of Golf in SoCal
Show up early to go to Denny's that was the best part of this place. I went to the 1st tee box where guys where already teeing off at my specific time, after i got there the starter didn't even say he had my time for that tee box. The fairways are like playing in a New Orleans after the levys broke when katrina hit, so with that there is alot of sitting soggy water that does not need to be affecting a player but it definitely is. The tee boxs and greens are majestic. There is no marshal or cart girl on the prowl. This was the longest round of golf I had played since Ive been in the area. I will never return and I'm sad to say that but I have never been so frustrated with how a place is being run.
Long from the tips
Weather was great, course was wide open, got the deal for $29. We played from the back and it was long with the wind. I'm 5.8 and shot 81, it's a par 73. Greens were challenging and nice. Fairways were a Bermuda and didn't run out which made it longer. I usually drive the ball 280 (give or take). I only hit one drive that far, most ended up around 240-250.
Could fix some burnt spots in fairways
Wide open and very forgiving. Greens not as fast now as in the summer.
Hidden Gem
Great golf course for the value. You need to provide DL, Insurance and Registration prior to entering the gate. Although I had a 12:00PM tee time, there was a tournament going on, so had to wait until 1PM. Starter told me that this happens with GolfNow all the time, so be careful. Course was wide open and fairways are forgiving. Great time, definitely coming back.
Friendly Course, Great Greens
What better way could there be than to spend Veterans Day on a Marine Base course. Staff was great, course was forgiving yet challenging. Great day all around.
rough needs to be cleaned up. Difficult to find balls off line with new sunlight slant and weedy rough. Takes time to hunt for a ball in "open" area.
Greens still bumpy from puncturing. More sand and water should do the trick.
Pro shop easy to check in and get started.
