Revamped Oaks Course
This was my first time playing the Oaks after the renovations. The course retained most of what it was before, but was about 200 yards shorter from the tips. Some of the more challenging holes (number 8) had there fangs filed down. Still fun!
Good value
This course was well maintained and staff was friendly , I finished my round in less than 3 hours .no food or beverage service .
Disappointing
We were not told 3 or 4 of the holes were greatly shortened. Nor has the USGA or the golf distance apps been told so you'll overshoot those greens unless you use a rangefinder. If you post your score, it's really not accurate as the course rating and slope need to be adjusted to accommodate the much easier set up. Otherwise the course conditions were as expected (slower than average greens but in good condition, fairways in acceptable shape). Prior to the shortening of the holes, this track was a pretty good test but now it's a lot easier.
Over done changes
I played this course last year and knew it was an average difficulty course but I liked the layout. You knew where to aim and where the trouble was. Greens were furry and slow, especially into the grain. Too many of the tee boxes were set way up (Example: 190 yard par 3 setup at 150 yards). For some reason, 4 or 5 of the greens from the year before were removed and new ones were added 50 to 80 yards in front of the old ones but the USGA is unaware of these changes so your yardage apps are off by this distance. This impacted my play the first time I encountered one of these holes as I hit it well over the green. From then on, I did a more visual evaluation to double check the distance. There’s no way the course rating or slope is accurate now so IMHO you shouldn’t post scores on these rounds.
Needs a lot of attention.
Course has a great layout but needs lots of investment and attention. Could be a beautiful course. Biggest complaint is that they overload it with players. Had to quit after a three hour 9 holes.
poor playing conditions, but it looks like they are working to make them better
Last year I played here and let them know in a review that the place is full of fire ant mounds. Well, it still is. A considerable part of the fairways are thin or just dirt, especially closer shots to the green. Greens are very slow and missing grass in many areas, not good greens to putt on. It will be a long time until I try them again. Maybe in 6 months the sod and seed they put down will have taken and the course will be much better? We will see.
Probably a nice country club when it opened; I'm guessing in the 60's or 70's. The course is in marginal condition, fairways thin, greens slow and bumpy. The one bunker I was in was good. Pace of play was slow. We quit after 14 holes. As we drove back to clubhouse the group 2 ahead of us had a par 4 and par 5 completely open. No marshalls. No running water on the course other than the men's room toilet so no way to hydrate. Cashier was friendly, starter and cart person need a course in customer appreciation.
Think twice and be patient
Allow additional time to get to the course as it’s a little ways in, check in wasn’t bad apart form being charged $20 +/- than what I paid on this app, then having to be refunded b cause the system didn’t pick up on the booking straight away,
The guy who checked me in was awesome, made this process easy even though there was the confusion
Had to tee off on a few holes from different tee placements due to sprinklers being on and not wanting to get wet
Grounds staff are very bad here, carts passing whiling trying to tee off, then on other holes continuing to work while trying to tee off/ play a shot, then had two guys wait for me too tee off then drive up the fairway to the green infront of me and proceed to place a new cup while I was standing at my ball for 10 minutes, this was on the 18th, not an ideal way to finish a round,
If you can’t get on anywhere j would recommend this course but be cautious and ensure u have patience as this was nothing like I’ve ever experienced at a public course
