Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Florida
Wonderful Course. Great conditions and good value. Abit challenging but this is golf. I would return for sure.
A regular favourite
We visit the Orlando area for golf every year, and wouldn't ever miss out on Panther Lake.
The course layout and standard are top notch. The course marshalling is a bit too pompous having waited on most shots on front nine, to be asked to keep up with the group in front was difficult to understand.
Panther Golf Course.
Great Hot Deal from Golf Now, $13.00 plus taxes. Great golf conditions, course in perfect condition.Highly recommended.
This course is always in great shape and always fun to play. Hopefully will play this course again soon. Always a treat.
The both courses are fantastic!! I can’t believe I’ve lived here for 6 years and this was the first time I played Orange County National! Will definetly be a regular going forward!!
High standards yet again.?
Played her numerous occasions whilst holidaying from the UK. This and Crooked Cat are two tremendous tracks. Slightly more expensive than some but great course conditions. My compliments to the Superintendent and his team on producing a great course in what has been a very wet period. If you get chance go and play these two beauties do so.
Course is always a real treat to play. The staff is excellent. The shop added a fourth player since we were a threesome and Ken was an exceptional addition our group. The problem was the large group we were following. Approximately 5 foursomes enjoying a five plus hour nature day.
Anyway, I will return OCN is worth the two hour drive from Sarasota and the pace of play was unusual.
Great golf course
The course was in great shape. It was challenging but fair.
i have played nearly every course in the orlando metro area and this course by far the best kept...nicest place anyone could ask for...what a nice facility.....great people.....worth every cent
Great place rained off after nine
Great place to play, fair course. Staff not thrilled to see you, not real helpful. Great driving range.
Green conditions were not up to standard due to maintenance. They will be good in a few days.
Maintenance staff needs training. On multiple occasions they drove vehicles past the tee within 30 feet of us while we were trying to tee off. Very poor etiquette.
The greens were a little bumpy but still good. Tees, fairways, bunkers, clubhouse, range were very nice. Played early, so pace of play was not a problem. Practice green was a lot slower than course. Mango scented cold towel brought out to us on the back 9 was a nice touch.
One of the top courses in the area
Quiet day in August, so2 of us went round very quickly - excellent! Course was in excellent condition, greens very good.
I prefer Crooked Cat, but only just. Got a hot deal with Golf Now, worth every cent.
Excellent staff, so helpful and friendly.
Poor Managment, Poor Service, Poor Staff
Where to begin. First off, the courses at OCN are gorgeous and fun to play, but management and staff (rangers) are less than helpful.
I booked (4) tee times two months in advance for Friday 24 Aug and Saturday 25 Aug. The round at Crooked Cat on Friday was wonderful, then late Friday I received a called from ONC telling me our 25 Aug tee times have been moved from 7:30 AM and 7:12 AM to 7:30 AM and 7:39 AM because a tournament was schedule on Panther Lake. The gentleman who called was not sure if it was a shotgun start tournament or not so we pressed ahead with the tee times he gave us. Notcie they didnt' give us an option about tee times, simply moved ours a half hour.
After completing the 5th hole on PL, we ran into the tournmament teeing off. Our threesome tried to play through the tournament until confronted by the ranger telling us we had to wait. Now mind you, I had booked these tee times 2 months in advance and the tournment players had told me the tournament was booked well ahead of 2 months ago. So why would ONC open up PL if there was a tourney on the course. At any rate, I told the ranger I would like to speak to the manager and that is when Jamie came to hole 6 from the clubshouse. By this time our second group had caught up to us, and the 6 of us were stuck behind this tournament. After a lenghty discussion with Jamie my group of 6 had three choices.
1. Pair up so the 6 of us would play behind the tourney the rest of the round. Likely a 6-8 hour round of golf.
2. Leave the PL course and play the back 9 of Crooked Cat (again) not the front/back
3. Go back to the clubhouse and get our money back.
Two guys from my group (one of which flew in from England to play with us over the weekednd) chose to get their money back, while the remaining 4 went to the back 9 of Crooked Cat. Of course once on the back of CC, we were in front of a foursome that just turned off of #9 and was now stuck behind us. After completing the 10th hole on CC, we again received a visit from Jamie after the foursome had called the clubhouse complaining because "they were on a good pace" and were now slowed down. We tee'd off, and by the time we reached our drives, the foursome behind us had arrived at the tee box so we let them play through only to be confronted again by a ranger thanking us for letting the foursome go through even though our pace was not slowing them down. Are you tracking the number of visits from ONC staff? We were, and it was getting annoying and very frustrating.
Wrapping this up, we finished our round on the back of CC, were followed by the ranger on 5 of 9 holes and we all said we will never play here again.
It's not out of the ordinary to get to the tee on a par 3 and have to wait for the group in front of you to putt out. It's another thing to get to the tee on EVERY par 3 and have to wait for the group in front of the group in front of you to putt out. That's the way it was Saturday morning at OCN Panther Lake. I have played OCN a couple dozen times since living in the Orlando area, and it is always incredibly slow golf. It is never less than a five hour round of golf. If you enjoy playing golf at a normal pace and finishing around four hours or less, OCN may not be what you want. I hate slow golf. OCN is very slow golf.
Always a safe bet
The layout, course conditions, and staff friendliness are always excellent at Panther Lake. The pace of play can be sporadic and borders on slow because of a full tee sheet. That speaks to the deserved popularity of this outstanding facility. If you haven't played it. do so. It is worth the usual slower pace of play. The best greens I have putted on this year
OCN, never a disappointment!
As always course was in great shape. Lush fairways that lead into well manicured greens. Only complaint is that they allowed a junior golf tournament to be played spreadout through the day which really slowed up the pace of play. All in all, I will be returning for many more rounds of exceptional golf.
