Water Gap Country Club has a dramatically hilly terrain that provides a unique and challenging round of golf. Since opening in the 1920s, the course has played host to a number of major tournaments. The links-style layout features lightning fast, undulating greens and seemingly receptive fairways that are fiercely guarded by mature trees. The elevation changes throughout the golf course guarantee that a flat lie will be hard to find and golfers will have to face several tricky blind shots. Water hazards come into play on five holes and there are also strategically placed bunkers to contend with. Water Gap is formidable test of your shot-making skills to say the least, but there are some birdie opportunities available. The signature hole is the par-3 fourth, which plays from an elevated tee to an elevated green.

Ok i get it.
It once was a great course but needs some love. For the right price it was a great practice round. Greens rolled true but no sand in bunkers. Couldn’t hold an approach shot so I practiced my chipping all day. It was fine, would do it again.
On the mend
I played this course a couple of years ago and it was in very bad condition. Members of my foursome stated they would never go again. I am happy to report that the current management is bringing good conditions back. The price is extremely reasonable and the course is in good condition for a course that is healing. It is definitely playable. Some of the greens need a little more work. But the price more than compensates for the few imperfections which are being corrected.
Beautiful views
The course was fun to play, but the greens need some work. If you want to enjoy beautiful Mountain View’s for a very reasonable price, this course is a great way to spend the day!
Water Gap course
Excellent day. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our cart wa# waiting for us when we arrived and we teed off on time.
It's getting better
3rd time playing this course, the first 2 times earlier this year, the majority of the greens were badly burnt out and damaged. Today most of the greens were in much better condition, although several greens are still in horrible shape. I guess its a work in progress and hopefully the staff will succeed in getting all the greens in tip top shape.
Greens issue
This course was once a gem, it's easy to see. At present course has suffered in many areas. Greens have some type of disease, multiple areas with no grass, they are trying to bring them back but I'm not sure if their efforts will meet with success. Looking around the place I believe they may have some type of money issue. Most of the ball washers are old and not properly cared for, tee markers could use a coat of paint, tee boxes need grass - most are mainly dirt, fairways don't appear to have been treated for quite some time. Buildings need paint, roofs
need work, bridges all need work and so do the cart paths.
A bummer really. I go there because I like the layout, very scenic and I can imagine what she looked like in her prime.
It's time like this that I wish I could afford to buy she and bring her back to life.
BAD GREENS
2nd time playing here this year, 1st time a couple of months back during a dry spell and the course was awful...figured after so much rain recently, the course would be much better. The fairways were very nice...BUT the green were still in such terrible condition, where some had more hard dirt areas than grass...it appear NOTHING has been done to regrow any grass on the greens since my 1st visit a couple of month back. There is NO EXCUSE for such poor upkeep of the greens. Someone needs to address this immediately. I do not recommend this course.
Accomodating
As a single I was sent out to start on two in order to get ahead of an outing.
Worst course I have ever played.
The worst burnt out greens I have ever seen. I wouldn't play again there if it was free.
Worth the golfnow deal cost
I haven't played this course since about 2008-2010. The condition was sub par compared to the last time i played when the course was is good condition. The condition of the course was fair. most of the greens were poor , fairways were not great , nor were the tee boxes. Overall for the price i payed, getting out and playing was absolutely worth the cheap greens fees.
Scenic views
If you like hitting off elevated tee ‘s and enjoy scenic views you will. Enjoy the course,,,sidehill and uphill lies. Worth playing
Play somewhere else
I booked this tee time with good intentions. When we arrived at the course you really couldn’t see any holes and the course conditions. In the pro shop the attendant told us the course hadn’t been watered in some time, he offered us a reduced rate to play. The tee boxes were dry with barely any green grass. After 4 holes, we were miserable. We saw no sprinklers, the fairways were bad, and some of the greens were cracked because they were so dry. We decided to leave and after some complaining we were given a refund. Until this place gets some water on it, pay a little more and find someplace better.
Good for practice
I play here about once a year, and each time I realize why I haven't played it more often. Course design is not for me. Elevated tees, elevated greens. somewhat predictable for a mountain course. A number of blind shots, and narrow fairways so if you don't know the course layout you can get into trouble quickly. Fairways have a lot of clover and need aerating badly. Greens were in good shape and putted true. A little slower than my preference but not complaining. Bunkers are an abomination, obviously no maintenance. If you can get on for ten bucks like I did, give it a try.
