Water Gap Country Club has a dramatically hilly terrain that provides a unique and challenging round of golf. Since opening in the 1920s, the course has played host to a number of major tournaments. The links-style layout features lightning fast, undulating greens and seemingly receptive fairways that are fiercely guarded by mature trees. The elevation changes throughout the golf course guarantee that a flat lie will be hard to find and golfers will have to face several tricky blind shots. Water hazards come into play on five holes and there are also strategically placed bunkers to contend with. Water Gap is formidable test of your shot-making skills to say the least, but there are some birdie opportunities available. The signature hole is the par-3 fourth, which plays from an elevated tee to an elevated green.

Pretty Tough
This course is not the greatest, but for the price its worth it for sure. Only two Par 5's, but they are both long and challenging. There are definitely some tricky holes and a bunch of lost ball opportunities. If you are looking to get out and play a round for a decent price and have a bit of a challenge, give this place a try.
disappointing course
Tee grand was really in bad condition, it looked like they have not maintained for a long time. Front 9 holes were OK but back 9 holes were just boring. I won't come back to this course.
Has gone down hill rapidly!!!!
The staff in the pro Shop are awesome. The pro shop has some decent clothing and items at a good price. The greens are in great shape. Thats about it for the good comments.
The tee boxes (especially the tips) are horrible. Covered in long grass and weeds and next to no grass. The fairways are somewhat decent and roll ok. The sand traps are mostly dirt with a fine layer of sand. After golf, we were excited to hit the newer out door bar area near the pool. What a mistake that was! We waited over 10-15 minutes to get drinks. Mind you the bar was packed with 7 people!!!! When I finally asked to be served, he went past me, to another couple and asked for me to wait!!! The drinks he made were horrible and done very unprofessionally. I think he usually works as a greens keeper, since he had NO skills bartending.
The drinks were horrible and over priced for what you received. We then stayed for dinner hoping for something better. We lucked out and got a young lady named ANN. She was attentive and a extremely hard worker. She truly made the night a save after the debacle at the bar area. The end of the night, they had a older gentleman singing some old 50-60s tunes and he was fabulous!! The price for golf is way higher than what you get. I would look at other courses in the Poconos and use this as a last resort
Ground is deteriorating
Used to be a nice course. The ground is not maintaining well, has more mosquitos around compared to others.
All the tees was moved front ward to make the distant shorter
Dog track
Poor condition course if you pay more than $14 not worth it. For 14 bucks better then a driving range.
Great course
I really enjoy this course. It's fairly local to me so I play it often. I like everything about this course except occasionally I feel it could use some maintenance. If a ball goes 2 feet off the fairway it can be difficult to find Because the grass is long, even in the fairway. But other than that one of my favorite courses in the area.
Falling short
It was obvious that they haven't done maintenance on the course area in the right amounts to create a superior course in the area. Evidently they're not generating enough money to pay for those improvements . They need to make a commitment on the course to improve the fairways and greens. . Many of the bunkers were absent of sand and had weeds and grass growing in them.
Not bad for price
Not a bad course with some beautiful views. The greens were in great shape and the fairways were average, but the tee boxes were pretty bad. Every bunker was filled with weeds, and didn't even look like sand. The course layout was decent, with a lot of uphill and down hill holes. I'd advise you to bring bug spray, because you will get attacked on the back side of the course. Overall good value for $18 for 18 holes with a cart.
Grade B
Tee boxes, cart paths and rough need work. Fairways and greens in good shape. Layout not optimal, difficult to get around, and several blind tee shots which were ridiculous (for beginner/intermediate players). Having said all that, good value for price (golfnow hot deal).
Great layout, poor fairway and tee box conditions
First time playing this course. My friend and I are a 15 and 20 handicap. This course has so much potential, however the fairway's condition were such that it was like hitting out of the first cut of rough on a regular course. The grass was so deep that even with a straight drive you ended up in 3 inch deep lie, making for very frustrating 2nd shots. The tee boxes were chopped up and resulted in uneven stances. Greens rolled true.
The layout of this course is amazing. Despite its short length, the hills and narrow fairways make it quite challenging for someone who sprays balls all over the place.
Pace of play was excellent, because hardly anyone was there. We were able to play and practice and look for our balls without being rushed.
Awful...be warned.
I played over 50 rounds through golf now in the past year. This was the worst experience by far. The course should be closed. It is in disrepair and the neglect is evident everywhere. It is not even safe, with bridges rotting that you have to carefully cross as to avoid it collapsing. Weeds everywhere, sand traps with no sand, you cant tell the fairways from the rough!! So bad that the staff (restaurant) actually apologized before we went out to play. Please read this and believe me when I tell you that you will be so disappointed. We drove over an hour and wasted a day!! Plenty of great courses on Golf Now. Pick another, please!
Nice
nice layout
needs upkeep
fairways overgrown
otherwise good experience
Winter golf
Since I live in a cold weather zone, I feel bad only giving the course a average condition rating. It's hard to expect great turf conditions this time of year. I enjoyed playing very much this course, especially since most other courses have closed for the winter.
Bad decision
Read some reviews and thought I had found a steal for the price I paid. Wrong! Tees were a mess, no fairways, overgrown bare patches. Uphill, downhill weird holes where you had to hit a lofted iron to get over a hill about 50 yards from tee.. Just weird! Greens were put table, but not very contoured. Started raining and didn't care if I finished.
Great Long Game
only 2 par threes and the rest was long excellent layout up and down and great hazards
No Fairays
Good price. But there are no real fairway, Its like hitting on a football field with a lot of crab grass.
Nice Older Course
Enjoyed the round at this older course in the woods. Greens were in very nice shape for late August. Tees and fairways could use a little attention. Interesting and challenging for my average skill level. Would play here again especially if rates go down in the fall.
Needs a whole lot of work
Nice greens, poor tee boxes, fairways nothing but weeds and traps unplayable. If not for a $10 Hot Deal would not have been worth playing.
