A Gem of a Course
Pay attention to the signs when you arrive because it says Lakeland however the actual course is Stonebridge......I arrived from Forest Hill to play there and made it to play 9 holes which were on the back nine.....and hitters course if you can keep it straight....plenty of bailout places off the tee box if you have an errant tee shot.....first course I have played that had a yardage book probably because some of the hole signs that show yardage and layout of hole were missing.....the staff was great....will visit again when I book an earlier tee time
Really Nice Course
I’ve played Lakeland 5 or 6 times this year. The staff is always outstanding. The Pro (I think his name is Robert) is an outstanding guy. My 2nd time I played here, I had none of credit cards on me, only cash. Unfortunately like a lot of places today, they couldn’t break down my $100 since I assume they don’t run a cash drawer up front. Instead of standing around awkwardly like what usually happens in these situations the Pro behind the desk swiped his personal card for my friend and I ($92). He told me that I could just swing back by at the turn when hopefully they’d have a little more cash so I could pay. When I came around the turn to pay he knocked our rounds down to $36 each(which saved me $20) and apologized for any inconvenience. Maybe I’m too easily impressed by good customer service these days, but I appreciate things like that. Especially at golf courses where it isn’t uncommon to run into snobbery.
•Course Conditions
The conditions here are really good for a public course. I play normally 2-3 times/week around the Mid-South and this course is up there from everything I’ve seen this year. The new management has put a lot of work into the course to get it back to where it is now. The greens roll great, the fairways are sparse at times, but it’s been pretty brutal everywhere this year considering the weather. Tee boxes could be brought up as an area for improvement. Some aren’t level or lined up kinda wonky. However, make no mistake, the course is in good condition. I think it’s worth the money. This course is also technically the 3rd hardest Memphis public course if you’re going off slope(133) and par rating(73.3). There are some genuinely challenging tee shots, and not a lot of room to miss on just about any hole. I’m a beginner golfer and my personal best round here is 94 from the blue tees, and my worst is 110. There’s definitely something for everyone here though. I’d recommend.
Great course
Love this course (past and present). It went through a couple of rough years but the new owner(s) have it back on track.
This course has changed owners multiple times in the last decade. Currently, the new owner looks to be economizing as much as possible. The course is in very bad need of water. Tee boxes, fairways especially and most greens are dry and hard.
I will say, compared to my last round there last year, they have raked the bunkers. They definitely need more sand in them.
I will have to think about playing there again for the current price, based on the condition.
Summer Holiday
Great course and environment with friendly neighbors along the fairways.
Tee box conditions were a little rough, compact and hard...took out a few tees.
Otherwise a great course and outing.
Good “beginner challenge”
This was a fun course to play. I am not a good golfer, so some of the hazards stumped me. Several long holes (400ish yards) with a few short ones (150ish yards) as well. You do play within a housing community so you have to watch your hook and slice. Overall, we had a great time on a fun course.
Great course, but challenging
I've played Lakeland a few times and my game has improved since. With that said I still think this is no course for beginners. Several tee shots not only require you to hit the fairway to have a chance but actually hitting the fairway in the right spot. There are numerous water carry par 3s and the greens all have slope and are usually fast. The course is in decent shape for the most part. I know they're working on getting it back to top shape and it's on the way. Pace of play was good, although I do wish they had a starter to make things flow better. Very friendly staff as always and excellent practice facilities. Ill work on my game and be back in a few months for sure.
Consistent lies in fairways and grees were firm and fair. Bunkers need a bit of work. Staff was nice. Good range and practice green.
First time playing coirse and ill go back.
Great course
Course is in great shape. They are working diligently to improve the course. Staff is friendly and very accommodating. Play here often and highly recommend.
Sad to see this great course in such bad condition
This is a really good and challenging course. But unfortunately, the course is in terrible condition. Other courses in the area are in much better shape. This course has been let go. The greens are good, but the fairways look like they have not been mowed in two weeks, with high grass in some areas and bare ground in others. And the rough is awful, with nut grass two feet high and poison ivy everywhere you look. I have been playing this course for 30 years and this is by far the worst condition I have ever seen it in. One of the pricyest daily fee courses in the area should be in better condition.
Always a great course! New management is making some great changes and bringing this course back to life!
