Rode the Golds (6643/71.5/126) with Ray and Randy in 4H, 20M after a frost delay. The weather was partly cloudy, fairly calm and around 60 by the time we were finishing.
The tees were lush and level with only the par 3's needing divot attention.
The fairways were lush and nice to play from.
The Bermuda rough is not over seeded and is not high. However, it is p[enal because the Bermuda is thin, matted down and generally expect a poor lie.
The sand traps were nicely maintained with decent sand.
The greens were smooth and putted medium fast. They are firm, hardly any ball marks because of the firmness.
Plenty of water stations on the course. Drink cart out making the rounds several times. Really good all grass practice facilities with unlimited range balls. The customer service was very good as usual here. New carts have been upgraded with GPS.
The course has numerous lakes to navigate over/around. Native bushes and trees line most fairways that can easily catch offline shots. Player is a tough but not overly demanding layout. Solid course, nothing tricked up, good choice for players of all skill levels. Recommended.
Great course ... excellent staff!
Course was in great shape, especially given the significant rainfall a few days prior, although it was clear a few of the bunkers had bedn washed out a little. Important to note, this is a more environmentally friendly course since only the fairways and putting services appear to be watered and kept green ... the fringes are cut very low and left more natural, which appears yellow. Didn’t bother us since the course still looked great and it made errant shots easy to find. Most importantly, the staff were outstandig, from the pro shop to the attendants.
Rode the Golds (6643/71.5/126) with Bill, mike and Pat in 4H, 40M. The weather was around 60, partly cloudy and windy.
The were level and lush, All the par 3's needed divot attention.
The fairways were lush and nice to play from. About as good as I have ever seen them here after all the recent rain. Only negative is too many unfixed divots, which is a golfer issue.
The Bermuda rough is not over seeded and is mowed down close. Expect a scruffy lie.
The sand traps were well maintained with decent sand.
The greens were very nice. Smooth and putted medium fast. They are firm but still held irons okay.
Really good all grass practice facilities with unlimited range balls. The customer service was very good as usual here. Plenty of water stations on the course. Drink cart out making the rounds several times. Carts have GPS. While most fairways are generous in width, Player is not really a grip it and rip it course. Losing balls in native bushes and OB is close to many fairways if you venture off the short grass on many holes. The layout also has numerous lakes to navigate over/around. it's tough but not overly demanding, solid course, nothing tricked up. Good choice for players of all skill levels. Recommended.
This is always a fun course to play. It survived the torrential rain very well. The winter rough is a bit hard to play out of and some of the traps were very wet, but all in alll it was an enjoyable experience. The layout is super and the practice facilities are complete. Greens often ran much straighter than we expected.
Tough but fair
The course recovered great after 3 1/2 inches of rain just a couple of days prior.
This is a great golf course and glad we booked it off golf now. Will play here again for sure. The pro shop and restaurant are just ok. The bag drop is unattended so carry in your own clubs upon arrival. Had to wait and grab cart as groups finish. The course layout condition and experience was fantastic though spite all the other stuff.
Got the twilight rate but had to leave after 15 holes to make a dinner reservation. With our handicaps of 20 each, we thoroughly enjoyed the course and wished we could have finished.
Would play the course again but not at the full rate of 125 per round on a Sunday.
Great day with friends
Started at 1:10, played in 4 hours.
Our group really enjoyed playing here. It was the first time for 7 of us.
Beautiful, Fair & Fun
Absolutely gorgeous views. Course is in great condition, challenging, but fair. Can’t wait to play it again.
Yes a nice course and worth the money
Can’t help the dormant grass-it’s to save precious water.
The course is fun and in good shape,Greens all good and fast.
Suggest people play it.
The Westin Mission Hills Resort - Gary Player
The Gary Player Course is one of the nicest courses in Rancho Mirage. Our foursome had a great time and played in about 4 hours and 20 minutes. The weather was excellent as was the Golf Course. The fairways were in great condition and the greens were running true and in excellent condition as well. The course is a very fair design and there aren't any real surprises, like blind holes or things of that nature.. Just a few bunkers were not too great, but overall I would recommend this course to anyone and hope to be playing it again very soon.
The Gary Player course is a great course that has held up the test of time. The Westin keeps it in wonderful condition. Not a killer course for higher handicappers from the White or forward tees, but has some teeth from the 2 back sets. Water, Sand & grass bunker/swales create a test, but not crazy tough. Fun course. I do wish they had a 6200-6300 yard Combo Tee set up. The Silvers (white) tees around 6000 are kind of short & the next back are over 6,600. I had not played it in a few years when I played last week, like running into an old friend! I'll be back soon.
