Formerly known as Cattail Creek GC.
Located in Green Cove Springs at the Reynolds Industrial Park, River Bend Golf Links is a locally owned, public course that offers a relaxing, enjoyable round. The course has been offering classic links golf since 1950, although then it was known as Cattail Creek. The golf course has since changed management but the challenging layout has remained the same. The golf course features small, fast greens and bunkers strategically placed throughout. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. River Bend Golf Links is conveniently located near St. John's River, offering a variety of other activities including boating and fishing.

15th fairway looking toward green Photo submitted by ElectraGilde on 11/15/2012
Do not play this course.
This course was overpriced for the conditions. We paid $18 for 18 holes. That doesn't seem like much, but it is when you can pay like $5 more for a very nice course at several places. The fairways were no different than my back yard. The greens basically had sand traps on them. The course was not laid out well and many times after you finished a hole, you could not find which way to go to the next one. It was confusing. The distances were off as well on some holes.
I wouldn't play this course ever again.
If you score well here you then you can score well anywhere.
This course while a great value at the golf now discount price is in need of some serious greens and fairway care. Most of the greens were in decent shape but the fairways are lacking in grass. Making this the perfect course for the average golfer to work on those trouble shots like, uneven lies and fairway sand shots.
You get what you pay for.
Greens were sandy. Hard to discern between what is rough and fairway. For only $10 a round I feel I got my money's worth... Wouldn't play there regularly. Would rather find another deal on golf now for a better course. Lady at the front could be more friendly with the customers...
great for working on your game.
i go to this course alot. it's clean but not rough. it's far from the worst course conditions. i see them mowing the course lot. but things need to be redone. the fairways are rough. they have weeds and patches. the greens very from ragged to immaculate. most have a rough patch hear and there. the course is very challenging because of narrow fairways, tiny greens and hazards everywhere. the water hazards are unkept though. some have dried up. that being said. the course is not horrible. but for people who are picky about their courses, this is not for you. it's the best deal in town (with a hotdeal) so i use it alot for practicing my game.
Good value for the price
This is a good course for the money. It's relatively short but provides you with some challenges: narrow fairways and small greens so keeping the ball straight and hitting your target are important. It's a good course to practice your irons off the tee and your approach shots. Putting was a challenge on some holes.
Back country peace
The grass was cheap, and the some of the greens were ridiculously bad, but something about this place made me enjoy myself. It reminded me of summers and my grandmothers house in the back country.
I enjoyed not having a car path so I could just go wherever I wanted and the golf carts were gas operated with brakes that locked, so it was like going go carting with friends.
Overall the course was playable with lots of charm which amounted to a lot of fun.
Course in very poor condition
The young lady in the pro shop was very nice and helpful. However the course is in extremely poor condition. There in virtually no grass in the fairways only broadleaf weeds with numerous areas of bare sand. I have played courses all over the country and this course is in as bad a shape of any course I have ever played.
horrible
Thus course keeps getting worse and worse. Grass was long we had to wait on several holes due to the grass being cut at 1pm. Greens were I'm terrible condition with sand all over them. No food facilities during the week just chips. Not good I will not go back anymore.
THIS COURSE NEEDS HELP!!!
Have to say, never have I went to course that the clubhouse was closed. Girl was very nice, just said everything else is closed. WOW.
Needed to be mowed, greens are just about gone, and had a group of 9 trying to play together while stoned or drunk or both.
SHOULD OF EXPECTED IT FOR ONLY $10.00...
WILL NEVER RETURN!!!
Love this course
Cant beat the deal! Always a good course to play to have a good time, especially for the money!. A few greens in repair, but they are rolling the greens and keeping up with the course. This is not a 5 star course, however the grass is cut, the greens are fast, friendly staff, good food, $10 6 packs, and lots of fun to play with your girlfriend or kids.
nice location, fair track, but mostly weeds and dirt
River Bend is located next to a conservation area that stretches for miles east to the St. Johns River, and south along it. It's not a badly designed track, but it's mostly weeds and dirt. On the other, it's about the least expensive course in the area, and thus a good value.
this course has plenty of potential
This course has a great layout that has been neglected for a lot of years. The greens are small but really nice. Lots of water, pretty narrow, but grass is not very abundant.
Ho hum course
Got there 1/2 hrs early. Told held to strict tee time. No one waiting entire time. When our tee time arrived manager allowed 3 groups to go ahead of us causing 20 minute delay of our start. Seemed to be deliberate due to our tee time being GolfIng.
Ho Hum Course
Mediocre course at best. Most greens hard with bare spots due mostly to heavy wear and obvious lack of maintenance. Could do with a good golf course manager and lots of money for fix-up.
posterchild for today's golf reality
it is disheartening for any golfer, regardless of ability, to see an interesting little course in such poor condition. The layout could be fun and challenging, despite being old-timey short. Most fairways are tight, and the greens are miniscule. It could be a perfect place to take your big-hitting buddies for a little skins game. You could smile as their long draws and high fades disappear into the wetlands on either side, while you smooth a 3-wood down the middle to beat their behinds.
Unfortunately, the front nine so lacks maintenance that it is almost unplayable. After a relatively wet winter, the fairways are dried up and very sparse and the greens are dying. The back nine is better, and from about 13 thru 18 you see what this course could be. The difference is dramatic. I assume their irrigation isn't working on the majority of the course, or they can't afford to water. Makes you wonder if there will be any reasonably priced, daily-fee courses around in a few years.
Fun Golf on a Hot Day
First time playing the course and it was 86 degrees with wicked humidity but we still enjoyed ourselves. My lady-friend and myself managed to put away 5 Gatorades between us through the 18 holes but it was worth it. There was a sign stating that no personal coolers were allowed, but we saw others using them so we did as well and nobody said anything to us. The staff was extremely friendly, and we got two free Calloway golf balls for joining the course email list. We got a great price through GolfNow which made the 40 minute drive from south in the county well worth it. We both thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I shot an all-time low (albeit playing the forward tees with her). There are plenty of water hazards to keep the course challenging though, and the fairways are rather narrow. The greens were in decent shape and played really fast. The Clubhouse had a limited menu (Cheese Sticks and wings) but the prices were great. We enjoyed a cold one after the links and we'll definitely be playing the course again.
Worth returning to River Bend
They obviously have been cleaning up the course. It was in the best condition that I have seen in quite a awhile. They are making an effort to make it the best they can. The customer service has improved 100%. Everyone was pleasant and they made you feel welcome. If you have played River Bend in the past and stopped due to the customer service - its time to return! Different attitude.
Value!!
I played this course for the first time today. I got it on the super deal price. Walked 18 holes in under 3 hours. Fairways not bad, better then I expected from reviews. Green are tiny tiny tiny, doubt you could have more then 1 or 2 20 foot putts on the course. Greens need work, sometimes it held the shots and other times the ball went 25 yards past the green, and I hit my irons high. A links type course in the swamp. Saw a few gators and snakes. Play it from the tips and you will have fun. If your expecting a flawless course, this is not for you but if you want to try something different and enjoy the woods, water and nature give it a try.
Good for the cost
Very friendly staff. This course has shown improvement over the past couple of years! Still needs fairway improvement, but weather has been a factor. Good bet for a "Hot deal"!
River Bend
Had a good time at this course. It's it a wooded setting in some parts and that was nice.
