Diamond in the rough
First and tenth fairways have been damaged by prior storms. Rest of course is in good shape.
Greens were fantastic
Greens were in great shape. The rest of the course needs work. Fairways were good, but anything off was an adventure.
Greens are fantastic
Greens were really in great shape. The rest of the course has a lot maintenance. Really good value for the money. Will golf again.
Poor condition
This course is in poor condition, not maintained to palm spring standards. There are no restrooms on the course and the course is vastly spread out. You need a buggy on this course hard going for walking.
detioration
Several years ago, CCGC was a first rate Coachella Valley course. It still is a great layout, especially the Mountain (back nine) side.
Unfortunately, the course conditioning is now very poor, except for the greens, which are well maintained.
One of the unavoidable problems is the positioning of the wash, which significantly affects the playability of holes 1 and 10.
I suspect it will be very hard for there to be much chance of rectifying the problems, without a huge influx of new money.
Screwed
Screwed by GolfNow. The time we booked wasn’t honored by Cathedral Canyon and GolfNow doesn’t give credits. Lesson learned!!!!
This was the first course I played on a marathon 9-rounds in 5 days trip I took to the Coachella Valley.
Being from the Midwest I felt this was an excellent first course to play to “knock the ice off” my swing. The value was good. You can spray your shots a little bit, but the course does require your attention. And the greens were as good as any I played on this trip. Cathedral Canyon is not one of the best courses in this area, but I enjoyed my round and would recommend it to others.
CONDITIONS: Let’s start with this… the 10th hole was washed out sometime in the past year or so and does not play as a par 5. Rather it was about a 170-yard par 3 the day I played it. I think this is a blessing, as the full par 5 looks like it was a bear of a hole. I didn’t feel this change impacted the enjoyment of my round in any way (plus, if you go long of this green you’ll be lucky to score a 5 anyway).
The fairways and greens were as good as any course I played in this area. Actually, the greens were some of the best (speed and breaks) I played. The tee boxes and bunkers could use some TLC. Actually, the bunkers would be my biggest gripe. The rough wasn’t overseeded (or at least I hope it wasn’t) and played as a dormant grass (which is fine).
VALUE: I chose to play this course first on my trip because of its affordability compared to other area courses. This course is a fair value.
LAYOUT: This course winds thru housing, and some of the greens are pretty far from the next tee box (don’t plan on walking this one… take a cart). It has some tough par 4s with water (#2, #3, #15, #16), and #5 and #14 can be tough par 5s. Have your camera ready for #17.
FRIENDLINESS: The staff were very helpful. Also, I had a blast playing with the 2some and other single I was paired with.
PACE: We had an early morning tee time. Still, we never caught the group ahead or saw the group behind. Great day!
DIFFICULTY: It’s definitely not easy. This course seems to demand a lot off your tee shot (par 4s above), OR a lot off your approach (par 5s), OR a lot off your putting (par 3s)… but never everything all on the same hole. Lost about 4 balls in the water.
2 holes damaged by flood
A good course which needs investment in rough maintenance that would make it a very good course
Greens are amazing!
This course has amazing potential. You need a fabulous first and last hole. The greens are fantastic…the water is a perfect challenge…but fairways need more grass and less dirt. The course sidelines need more care. Thanks for the opportunity to voice our concerns. The cost is a definite positive.
Sincerely
Clare Downing
