Walden Lakes Golf & Country Club offers two championship courses, the Lakes and the Hills. Both courses enjoy a scenic landscape and tropical climate that allows for playable conditions year-round. The Lakes Course is characterized by the beautiful Walden Lake. Water is naturally a prominent feature throughout the golf course, coming into play on nearly every hole. The fairways are lined with mature trees and the undulating greens are bordered by strategically placed bunkers. The layout is a demanding but fair test. Four sets of tees offer a variety of challenges that will appeal to a range of different skill levels. One of the trickiest holes is the par-3 eighth, which is not long but features a double-tiered green that is surrounded by water and three sand traps.

Sad, sad turn of operations
Seems like to make a point they couldn't keep up or the Hills course, they don't do any work on the Lakes course.
Unfortunate the overall value is poor.
Course needs help !
A once beautiful course, now needs a lot of maintenance to bring it back to what it was! It really needs a good management company to bring it back.
Interesting layout - poor condition
The Lakes course has a nice variety of holes, but fairways consist of closely mown weeds. Greens were quick and relatively smooth.
Walden Lakes - Lakes Course
Many times when you walk into a Pro Shop you are able to get a real sense of the course that you're about to play. Walden Lakes was like this but for the wrong reasons. On top of having no food (hotdogs) etc the Pro Shop had almost quite literally no stock. The chap in the Pro Shop was quite friendly so kudos to him. He in fact was the highlight of playing Walden Lakes.. and the GolfNow price of $12. So it's hard to complain right? Well not for those who paid double and a bit of the price.
The sad thing you can tell that Walden Lakes at one time was a nice course... likely stunning. The tract of land that it sit upon is gorgeous. Lots of natural areas, lakes, wildlife and so on. This is a course that almost needs divine intervention. The conditions were almost beyond reproach in the key areas that golfers pay more. Although the greens were adequate the teeing ground was borderline appalling. It has been many seasons since any type of seeding/overseeding has been done. Does it help that the other 18 (Hills Course) is shut down? I think that too, speaks volumes. Furthermore, find me a course that has ZERO rakes on it. If there was one comment that sums it up... that would be it.
For $12 it was okay and better than snow. That said, I would not play this course again unless some money bought it and gave it a renewed sense of life. For the sake of this Plany City course I sincerely hope that happens.
Not worth it
At this price I would expect fairways not mowed down fields of weeds. Greens were just tightly packed sand. Barely any green to them. Tees were in poor shape for most holes. Unless you're getting this for $15 or less look some where else. Much better courses around for the money.
Layout was nice
Greens were sloppy, tee boxes and fairways were overtaken by ant mounds. Fairways were substandard. Definitely feel the course is neglected.
what a shame
I use to play Walden Lake when it was new, it had 2 beautiful courses. Now 1 course is closed and the other is in very rough shape. For the money it isn't terrible, just remember, you get what you pay for.
Greens were good
The greens were good and fast. Grass around the greens were getting a little long. Fairways had allot of places were the grass had not grown in yet.
Course needs work
I knew going into the round the course was not in the best condition, however the course was worse than expected, especially since they are still charging upwards of $48 on their website for morning tee times. I booked a round for $30 on golf now, which is still over priced. I fairly certain the owner has not put a dollar into the coarse in a long while. The tee boxes are garbage, the greens have crab grass on every single one hole with several patches of missing dirt. The fairways are barely better than the rough. The starter was very friendly and helpful and the weather was great. If you can get a special for $15 on golf now it is worth the practice but dont expect alot. The course could be nice if a little money was used for upkeep, for it lends itself to great views around the multiple lakes.
Not so good anymore
Most greens were very good but the fairways need a lot of work. Another review compared them to a cow pasture--not that bad but definitely in need of some care. This used to be a nice course for the money but even booking with a Hot Deal and a 25% off, I don't think it was worth it. Someone needs to invest some money to get the course back up to where it used to be!!
Not bad
Took out a new family member and new golfer, this course was a great choice for that. The fairways were better than they have been and the greens are good.
We had a very good time
We had a wonderful round with no wait, no stress and enjoyed the beautiful layout and weather for our debut in south Florida this fall.
Enjoyed the round
New Walden Lake resident. Looking forward to playing again soon. Course needs attention, but very playable.
Needs attention to tee boxes and overall Manicuring.
Green speed pretty quick, although they don't look very good.
Brutal
When you walk up and other players that have just played tell you "it's not too late to go to another course" it's not good. There is no staff. It's like a ghost town. Grabbed a cart and proceeded to play a course that is in terrible condition. Tee boxes overgrown with weeds. Fairways had more weeds and just bare spots. Traps had dead trees in them and growing grass. Greens were somewhat OK. Overall, save your $20 and find another course.
Good for the money
Course needs some work but overall better than a lot of similar courses.
Great Value
There was only one green that was dried out. Several sand traps needed attention. Fairways were in great shape. For what I paid, this was an unbelievable deal. I would definitely play here again.
This course is the worst I ever played
The fairways were not cut and the greens are not kept up. I would not recommend this course until changes are made.
Bad Shape
The greens were in good shape but tee boxes and fairways were terrible. Kept having players come up as everyone had their own carts (most were from the club house not private ones). Poor way to run it for those sharing carts as we did let them through us which slowed us down. 5 hours to play a round way too long to play a round.
Needs new management
This course used to be a jewel of a course. Great layout and fun to play but the current management has let the course deteriorate in order to try and sell the land for home sites and commercial ventures. The course needs to be sold to someone who will restore the course to its original Ron Garl setting.. The course should shut down or sell to another a company for restoration.
