Verrado Golf Club - Founders Course
About
John Fought and Tom Lehman collaborated on the course at Verrado Golf Club, a voluptuous design that meanders through the old Caterpillar bulldozer proving grounds. It's up and down for 18 holes and that doesn't mean "chip and a putt." The course is good test with chances to score and a handful of memorable and scenic holes.
Where Verrado Golf Course will eat you alive is in the bunkers. Some bunkers are hard to carry, others collect wayward shots. But the fairways are wide enough to avoid trouble, and what appears to be the safe shot off the tee will often bring greenside bunkers more into play. So pick your poison.
While the back nine is far superior to the front, going out still has its fair share of memorable holes. A huge boulder 30 feet tall on the par-4 eighth jets out from the left side around which the fairway shapes itself. A perfect line from the tee box is to take the ball five yards right off its edge, but hitting the boulder is certain death by desert. The boulder was scheduled to crumble via dynamite, but stood up to the TNT and was deemed an immoveable object. Open and playable for all skill levels, the Verrado Golf Club is a sublime experience.

Great day for golf!!
Great day playing with ny son and another father son duo that we were paired with. Very enjoyable day. It was cart path only but under it's needed at times to keep the course beautiful.
Must play
Whenever I am in the Phoenix area I try to play the founders course.
Always in good condition even after overseed
Fairways - 9
Greens - 9
Bunkers - 7
Tee Box -8
Pace of play - 6 cart path only
Layout 8
Played 400 courses , give it a try
You have to play this course
Absolutely beautiful, rock, desert, elevation changes, excellent conditions, attentive staff and marshalls. Played during cart path only which was a little rough but would love to come back another time when the course is fully available. Its an expensive course compared to others in this general area but worth playing at least once.
Awesome Staff
We celebrated a friend’s birthday and had an amazing day playing Founders. The staff at the course were the BEST!!!
Overbooking & slow play, no water, unknowledgeable staff
Distracted staff in the club house, lack of awareness in the cart barn staff, no water on the back half of the front 9, took 2:45 for 9 holes (we got 13 holes in before sundown and we started before 2:20pm), starter didn’t know pin position, we prepaid for all 4 golfers (only 3 could show) and they tried to put a 4th with us without suggesting we could get a refund for the 4th player (I had to tell them twice that we paid for the full tee time, and we are not accepting another golfer with us). So sad to continually see this course not paying attention to its customers, yet always trying to financially take advantage when it only makes sense for them. Disappointed.
Great course, looks easy but it is not
Had a great time with some other first timers. Did not score well because of the lack of course knowledge, you should know where to hit the ball off the tee to be able to reach the greens in regulation. The look off the tee box is a wide open fairway but the truth is you can easily be in a bad position to reach the green. Still, great course & well maintained.
nice open fairways but tough 2nd shots
First time here, very friendly staff. A little pricey, even with golf now, but an upper tier course. Pretty nice overall but over 100 degree day but plenty of water on the course.
Great Course
I only gave 3 stars for the course condition, but to be fair, Phoenix has had 110 plus high temperatures for 20 straight days. I have played this course 2 other times in cooler temperatures and the course was in excellant shape.
I would play here again!
Past its former glory
I realize it is summer in AZ, but the course was not in its normal glory. I haven't played here for a few years, but this is not the course I remember. The fairways and tee boxes are dry. The greens are inconsistent and bumpy. The layout is interesting, but with the dry conditions your tee shot just rolls with the contours until it is off the fairway. Kind of takes the enjoyment out of a good tee shot to have it roll into the junk.
I'd play it again and again
This course is one of the best I have played this year. Every aspect of the course was perfect. Tee boxes, fairways, rough, approaches, and greens were well groomed and in very good shape. The club house doesn't open until 1100 which slowed us down a little, but the staff let us come into the airconditioned clubhouse until they got everything up and running.
Poor Shape For the Cost Of Green Fees
Course is in poor shape

Fairways are dead
Tee Boxes are Dead
Need Some Help Here for the Cost of Green Fees
Was expecting Better for the Rates charged
Way over priced for the conditions
Course was in very poor condition for the price of green fees
Tee boxes were dead. Fairways were dead

This course needs some help with course management and green fee prices
