Fun day
I started out having a hilarious conversation with the young lady at the snack bar. Having no change on me and wanting to take a cup of ice for a quarter tip, I handed her a one and she heard me say how about three Coors for a dollar? A guy behind me was bursting out laughing…calling it a classic who’s on first. Then I met two guys from Pearland on the tee, Chis and Aaron. Chris ended up shooting a personal best 81 from the whites., I met my goal of shooting an 88 from the mids. Lost two balls to water on #5 and another off the tee on 7 into a good wind. A birdie on 16 saved the day for me. I had adjusted to closing the club head into that wind. I’ll likely never see these guys again but we all thought it lucky we had that 318 tee time.
Practice
Course is challenging once get through hole 8 got easier. Not marshaled very well and gets bogged down. Certain golfers think they Ken the course playing like turtles while everyone else can just wait
Annual Review
Played Cypress Lakes about a year ago and it was the best course I played in Houston area. Greens were in great shape at the time. Not so in this time in 2023. I had seen other reviews about the greens but got a discounted fee. I heard that sister course Longwood was closing (maybe for redesign due to area flooding issues)? If so, Cypress Lakes will probably get more traffic and I wonder about upkeep. I will try to visit again in 2024 if I get another discounted fee as I'm not prepared to pay full cost now for the experience.
Well organized
Snack bar had exactly what I wanted….cups of ice with lids on them all ready to go. Pro shop and cart barn had reservations set up, pin placements displayed, and sufficient carts to get everyone off on time on a busy Friday. Now they f only I could play well on the second and fifth holes without getting into trouble.
Cypress Lakes
Staff was nice, had a later in the day tee time at 5pm. We weren't able to finish all 18 due to how dark it got and also the sprinler system had already began. Was a fun course, I would deff go back, just maybe look for a better deal to play, make it little more cost reasonable.
Cypress Lakes Disappointing
Cypress Lakes used to be a tip top course with the conditions simply superb. Last time I played about 6 mos ago I was disappointed in its conditions. They always bragged about their greens, but they weren't in that good of condition. Thought I'd give it another shot. Well same as 6 mos ago. Disappointing. Cypress Lakes definitely showing wear and tear.
Fairway need help
Overall Cypresslakes has one of the must consistences green around Houston, unfortunately the fairways definitely need some work...Several bare spots and no grass at all on portions of the fair way.
Great Value for the $
Course was in good shape just coming out of winter.
Enjoyed the lay out of the course, greens were fast, but in good shape.
Will play it again in the spring once Winter is over..
Dry as a bone
The entire course was dry as a bone. The driving range had more dirt than grass. The course was not much better. You’d think that with all the rain over the past few months it would have been better. The ground was hard as a rock and dusty.
The greens were great and smooth - fast. The only problem was that many of the holes were slightly elevated so putts would bump by.
Otherwise - always a challenge.
Overall very nice experience
Winter conditions in Houston, so lots of issues with tighter lies than normal. Many bunkers need repairs. Greens are smooth and fast, though. Very enjoyable challenge. I'll continue to be back when I'm in town
I played a couple days after a strong rain so review is based on very wet conditions. Sand traps were ‘lakes. Balls hit into them were lost. Greens were so fast that your put may come right back at you. Tee boxes and fairways were average. Course is a very good layout and fun to Play but price should be adjusted to the course conditions.
