So much potential
Great layout with a great staff. Course is not in good shape and it appears that they don’t water. Tee times are too close together so the pace is pretty slow.
Good value if you get the Hot deal tee time
The course is in fair condition. The layout is pretty challenging. Greens run pretty true, fairways aren't patchy, rough can be patchy, tee boxes are a little hairy, and sand is nice. Big driving range to warm up and two good size putting greens. Pace of play is abysmal. Easily 5 hour rounds on any day at anytime. Lot of people who have no business being on the course yet and people who should be playing from the upmost tees but don't because of ego.
Not great.
Really love the layout of the course with some challenging holes. It could be such a great course. Which is much needed on the west side. Staff is great and the pro shoo and range are excellent. Except not a good area for short game practice. Course is definitely not in great shape. Very unfortunate. But worth a play for sure. Hoping for the City of Portland to put more resources or please sell it to someone who will.
Redtail Golf Course
I enjoyed playing Redtail with my 20-year-old grandson. My experience there goes back to the Progress Downs days, so I was pleased to see it the greens in such condition. It's still early in the Oregon golf season and the greens should pick up pace in June-September. The only slight criticism is the fairway and rough areas with small white flowering weeds making it more difficult to find my ball. Yet, I recommend play there.
Be Prepared
To me, the course is very challenging. That said, the rough was a little longer than it should be (and yes, I should hit the ball to the fairway), to the point you couldn’t see the ball if it was more than 10 feet away. This, I believe contributed to a little longer round, just looking for my playing partners golf balls or my own.
Later in the season I’ll give this course another shot, it’s a challenge and I think I can do better than I did.
It’s a shame
Course is in rough shape as of 3/15/22. Doesn’t drain well, and they don’t maintain heat t well. Bunkers haven’t been touched it a while, crusty firm. Greens are patchy. Lots of weeds and crab grass in fairways and tee boxes. The usual you’d expect at red tail. It’s a shame cuz it’s a nice layout. It will get better as we get into summer and stuff grows back but they never keep it up that well.
Too much soggy fairways
Course was suffering from the rain, a lot of muddy fairways, just not great drainage.
