Nakoma Golf Resort (previously known as The Dragon at Gold Mountain) is a scenic wonder that will help golfers realize what's so special about Reno and the High Sierras as a golf destination. Challenging play team with unbelievable scenery, giving players a day on the links they won't soon forget.

Playing to more than 7,000 yards from the back tees, Nakoma will challenge even scratch golfers with an imposing slope rating of 147. With five tee settings, however, Nakoma Golf Resort has proven to be a golf course that will delight all levels of golfers, as its combination of hazards and risk-reward opportunities make it a challenge worth taking.

But the scenery doesn't end on the golf course at Nakoma, which features spa villas and other amenities for golf travelers. Add to that a remarkable clubhouse designed by the legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and you'll easily see why Nakoma Golf Resort has its own special place in the Reno and High Sierras golf scene.

Great Course!

Great course with lots of challenging holes. Many blind shots and tricky greens. Beautiful vistas and layout. Clubhouse is spectacular. The No. 3 tees, 6000 yards, are plenty for most golfers. Long distances between holes, so recommend carts.

Great Challenge

Greeted at the car when I pulled up, given free coffee and muffins in the pro shop, range balls were waiting for me, no abnormal wait at any point during the round. Beautiful location and views from the course and one of the most challenging courses I have ever played. I will go back for the challenge alone but the staff and beauty of the course and area make that even easier. Frank Lloyd Wright designed clubhouse was very cool. I have already recommended it to a golf buddy, he's got to see this thing. I think the $80 green fee is a great deal for the experience you get. They just have some good concepts in place and I hope a ton of people discover and appreciate what they have so it lasts and lasts, or at least until I shoot a great score

A good experience

I played this course for the first time with my wife. the course has a beautiful view and surroundings. The fairway and greens are well maintained. The greens are smooth and is reasonably fast. We had enjoyed a wonderful day and was worth a long journey from San Francisco.

Gorgeous course - spectacular views.

Beautiful course with great choice of tee boxes. Staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Course in great condition, though windy in the afternoon. We had heard this course was tough, but though it was challenging, it was not unfair. We loved it! Our home courses (Sequoyah CC in the Oakland hills and Tahoe Donner in Truckee) have very narrow fairways, so we thought these fairways were wide and easy to hit in comparison IF you read the break right, and the fairways do have considerable break. The clubhouse is a must see - fabulous views from the dining room and patio - great for an after round drink. Pro shop has great women's clothes (so rare)! I would highly recommend this course. Worth the drive.

Very hard

I love this course. It's always in excellent shape. However, it is a very hard course.
Hole2 - remove the fairway bunker.
Hole4 - remove the fairway bunker
Both are already hard holes. After a great drive you still hit the bunker.
Hole9 - the green is well protected by bunkers. The green is to small and not flat. If you do get on in 2, be ready for a 3 putt.

I do love this course. I play early in the morning and it's beautiful out there. The staff is always very friendly and helpful.

Hidden gem

The Dragon course turned out to be one of the best surprise experiences of golf I have had in recent years. I did not know what to expect, but let me tell you, it was fantastic. Every single hole was a postcard. The course conditions were perfect. The staff was incredible. I would highly recommend taking the time to visit this destination. I know this course will become a regular visit of mine when in northern Nevada.

A little less bite, but still beautifully lethal

Although this course has gone through some rough times -- even closing down for a period -- its rebirth as a little gentler version of its original self is a victory for golf in the area. Yes, the greens are fairly small, missing fairways can mean missing balls and the course is generally still pretty hard. But gone are the greens that run 13 on the Stimpmeter and some of the holes are a little more open than they used to be. Translation: It's hard but fair. You do have to golf your ball. And it's still as stunning as ever. Considering the price is often much less than its competitors, it's a must play for the medium to advanced golfer.

Incredible Experience

This course will beat you up regardless of your playing level, but it will be the best beating of your golf life! the staff were uber-attentive, but not intrusive. Everyone was great about the things to watch out for on the course. There is no gps on the cart, so it's old school, with blind shots often. I will go back for sure!
