Not worth it.
Poor course management. For this price point you'd expect a starter and on course marshals to assist with the pace of play. No beverage cart at all. After it taking 5 hours to play 12 holes, I called it quits. I wouldn't recommend this course.
Worth the trip out
I really enjoyed this course. Overall, was in good shape from tee to green, and greens rolled true. There were a fair amount of elevation changes on the course, forced carries, and dog legs. Water came into play on a few holes and poor club selection could really hurt you here. Overall was a fair test of skill and the scenery was great. Being I got a $75 Hotdeal to play here made it a great value. Only negative, think it's a little overpriced at regular rate of $110. I would definitely play here again though.
SERENE AND SPIRITUAL DAY
2nd time this year playing Nakoma, did not shoot as well this time due to a challenging wind. However, enjoyed the day and the beauty of this place is the best around. Greens rolled nicely and fairways were pristine. Customer service right from the beginning was excellent and pro-shop was very attentive. I hope to return a few times before end of season. If you have an opportunity to visit here, PLEASE DO! - the views along the 4th hole are some of the best.
Getting better
This was the 5th or 6th time I’ve played here and I enjoy it more each time. It has gotten so much better since the first time I played it right after it opened. It still has some nuances/ holes that feel unfair, but most of those have been adjusted. This has become my 2nd favorite course in the area and it is much cheaper than my favorite.
Great Deal
Got a 40$ hot deal and was worth 3 times that!
Awesome track with perfect greens and views to die for.
Great course, lots of visual challenges, excellent greens!
Starter/cart attendant was not on station. We received no information about pin locations or water for towels. Other than that pleasant golf round.
Try and Slay The Dragon
We absolutely love this golf course! Although challenging the beauty of the course and the views is worth taking the cart ride on it's own! It's so beautiful that you can't get mad if you don't play well. If you ever get a chance to play it, do it! Excellently maintained and love the green. The staff was so friendly and accomodating! It is a must play course for any golfer to add to their Bucket List!
The Dragon
This is the 5th summer in a row for teeing it up at The Dragon. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The setting is incredible. The course was not in its best condition. Greens were good. Brown spots in many fairways and a much needed mowing on most tee boxes as clovers were abundant.
Great day at the Dragon
Course was in excellent shape and we had a great time
Good luck slaying the Dragon
The Dragon is a beast in every sense. Its par 4s are long and difficult. Higher handicaps probably have a better shot at winning the lottery than hitting some of the greens, many of which are elevated, heavily undulating and surrounded by bunkers.
But the Dragon is still worth playing. The scenery is stunning; the staff super friendly; and boy that clubhouse is worth the trip alone. Our dinner was the best of the week after touring several golf hot spots around Reno/Lake Tahoe.
Our three foursomes played a scramble. Every team shot 61 from the '3" tees, and we had a great time. This is the perfect way to enjoy the Dragon. Either play a scramble or move up a set of tees. There's fun to be had on this difficult course. You just need to manage and lower your expectations to enjoy the day.
Early season round
I think they haven’t been open very long after the snow, it was a little rough. Tough layout already made it extra tough. Super friendly pro shop young lady made sure everything taken care of.
The Dragon
First time out at the dragon and it was nice. The view was good course was in good condition a very challenging course did better than I thought I would for being my first time. Really want to say that the staff their went out of their way to make you fell comfortable and made sure you had a good time. Thanks to the staff for everything I had fun and I will definitely will be coming back.
They need a Marshall. When I played as a single, I caught up to a twosome who would not let me play through. There was a foursome in front of them and five empty holes! A Marshall might speed up play. Golf should not be 5 hour round.
Great course
Windy to add to the difficulty. Hit 'em straight - tight fairways and quick greens. Great fun.
My Favorite Course
This is the golfing jewel of the Sierra's. A must play for the serious golfer!
Toigh for high handicapper (18)
Difficult. Long. Really hard to reach par 4's. Beautiful all in all. Neat greens but hard --- and tough pins. Wonderful clubhouse area. Frank Lloyd Wright building. Sort of a mens weekend out place as it is really out of the way.
Awesome !!
My husband and I had heard how difficult this course was, so we decided we would just have a good attitude no matter what. Well we were so pleased to find it was wonderful and not too difficult, We are 14 handicaps and we played the reds. So you can make it any degree of difficulty that you choose. Wonderful, excellent condition. Groomed beautifully, greens were awesome, not easy, but fun. We will be back there to play again. We are in our 70's, so we better not wait too long to get back. Smile !!
Spectacular Experience
We have longed to play this course for a few years now and finally found the opportunity. What a grand day we had! The course had previously been known as extremely difficult and remains to be so although it appears several avenues have been taken to alleviate some of the hazards and difficulty of play for most range of players. The beauty of this course creates a MUST PLAY course. The entire staff were very accommodating and eloquent, as was the dining prior and following golf. We are eager to return to The Dragon of Nakoma.
