Tough track
Some very narrow tree-llined fairways, doglegs and forced carries make this a tough course.
Great Course
Found a tee time that worked for me and it was a great value. The course has a lot of trees and narrow fairways but it's a great course. Would play again and the conditions were excellent!
Exellent course
As a beginner golfer, this course provided for lots of fun in the scenic Carmel Valley. I generally found that people played the course very fast. Club rentals were a little expensive, but otherwise a very enjoyable round of golf.
Gentle round
Great views and a challenging yet wonderful course. Good location and close to downtown Carmel. Fairways were good (green) and greens were in good shape, but not rolling very fast. One of my favorite courses on the Monterey peninsula.
Love the views of mountains
Played here a long time and always loved the courses.
Great staff
Clayton the starter made it a great way to strart the round. Very friendly and welcoming . Tee boxes need some work
Best front 9 ever (for me)
Had a great round of golf with friends on early Sunday morning. It's a good thing we started at 6:30 am as it was a very HOT day later.
Beautiful views
Course in very good shape in great location (California traffic notwithstanding). Two negatives are the $17 ride-along charge and a tacky $3 cart key deposit which of course I forgot to return to the clubhouse. I am curious as to why CA courses do not have senior tee boxes.... at 68, whites make it a bit difficult to reach the greens in regulation.
Nice course
A good value for the area. Early tee time no problem getting around in under 3 hrs.
Lower Your Expectations
(The picture in the description is of number 9 East.)
The West course is tougher than the East because more trees come into play. Holes 1-2 are two of the toughest and often into the wind. Holes 12 and 15 are as narrow as any course can get.
Like others have said, the pro-shop staff aren't very friendly and the course conditions are poor (bad bunkers and slow greens).
I play here when I feel I'm not on my game and I need something close to my parents house (driving on highway 1 can be slow).
Reasonable course, rude pro shop staff
Have played these courses on several occasions, it's good for mid to high handicap players since it's short with only occasional trouble off the tee. On this particular round encountered rude behavior from the pro shop staff when checking in, no concept of a paying customer. Have encountered similar abrupt behavior from marshalls and 1st tee personnel at this course. Greens are nice with solid bunker coverage and lots of big trees on probably half the holes. They could have a solid course if only they had somebody to motivate the customer-facing staff. This course is a exhibit A in explaining the shrinking participation in golf among younger people.
Nice Course, Rude Pro Shop Personnel
Nice course, I've played here many times. However they generally don't treat you like a valued customer, most recent round which was a rain delay the pro shop person was rude. I'm generally sympathetic to the type of staff that can be attracted to these jobs but there are some people that should be doing a more solitary job like picking up range balls (rather than dealing with customers.) Course has a lot of trees and in many cases requires accuracy or you're ping-ponging among the trees. Beautiful tract of land which is mostly flat but green - California drought not a problem here since they seem to get moisture. Nice grass range and putting greens.
reasonable priced course in Carmel
nothing spectacular here but just good plain golf.Fairly easy with barely any elevation changes at all, couple of forced carries over creeks and a lot of trees but mainly simple golf just keep it in play. The second cut of grass if not on fairway is pretty brutal and long, bunkers are in great shape with fresh sand and a very scenic course as well....overall for the money a great deal and just minutes from downtown Carmel for entertainment after and a good dinner before the drive home.
Best Value in Monterey
Rancho always keeps their courses in great conditions! The greens were a little too soft and a bit bumpy. Overall the course was in great shape.
Mature course
The staff was very friendly, course was in great shape. Play moved quickly
Tricky
To play this course you must have local knowledge. Their are a lot of tricky holes you don't know how to play if you haven't played here before. Course should be more informative about the correct way to play certain holes.
Easy East is Great...
We had a great time, including an Eagle from 80 yards out on #2. The highlight was just the stunning day of golf and the exceptional value. Greens rolled a bit slow, but consistent. The staff and crew is generally great, though the starters are not the most "congenial". #15, though not the #1 stroke hole, should be. #'s 3 & 13 (par 3's) are a real challenge.
Scenic Course but...
This is a scenic course with tremendous value through GolfNow, but the upkeep off the fairway leaves much to be desired. This was my second time on the course in the last three weeks and both times I lost balls just off the fairway because the second cut is poorly maintained, with grass I estimate at least 3 inches high. I have never experienced such a high second cut. Golf is tough enough without the added frustration of lost balls and penalty strokes on shots that play well on most courses.
Very good
Nice atmosphere and well-maintained
Will definitely play again
