The Pipe! Great Course!
Played the Pipe at 6:50am for $79 through golf now. Played as a single and they threw in the cart. Played 18 holes in 2 1/2 hours.
Played from the tips. It's a great course from any tee, and a great challenge from the Championship tees. Played this course growing up and it was great to get back out there and see it still looks great 20 years later.
Spectacular Views
Booking through Golfnow.com, I was the first tee time of the day. Santa Barbara was drenched with rain the weekend before, therefore the Greenskeeper determined that play should be cartpath only and no warmup on the range (really????). I understand cartpath only, but no warmup? I usually walk courses, and was expecting to use a course owned pull cart/ricshaw. Sandpiper doesnt offer either (really???) This offer did include a power cart which was OK. The course is walkable but there is a severe elevation dropoff to 11 green and 12 tee. You must play Sandpiper once to enjoy the views. Very difficult to compare to Bandon Dunes even though some holes are set up very similar..
Hard to get around
I played there long ago, so this was like the first time getting around. For several holes we had real difficulty finding the next tee. The signage frankly is not very good. We found that a real drawback especially yesterday with heavy fog that never burned off. Surely this can be remedied.
Staff and food great.
Great views - well worth it
Given the recent drought, the course was in very good condition. One of the best coastal courses we have played with some fantastic views and some beautifully designed holes. Greens were great but keep ball below the hole. Enough room to to go for it with your driver.
Poor Man's Pebble Beach
As always Sandpiper gives you all you can handle. Great ocean holes, fast greens, good conditions. The course I always play when in area. Worth the drive from LA anytime!!!!!
Amazing views
This truly is the poor man's pebble beach. For the price you pay at almost any quality course in CA you can play here and feel like a pro playing pebble.
Beautiful, expensive, ocean course.
I went on a golf trip to California with my dad and a buddy and we played this course on a reccomendation. It was worth the drive to Santa Barbara. Very pretty course and it does play along the ocean with one hole playing down to the ocean. Staff was great and it really is a fun course. Greens were true and probably ran at an 11.
Poor man's Pebble
About 15 minutes north of Santa Barbara, one of 2 courses that is a must if you are in this area. A bit beat up because of the draught, but all else is great.
The poor man's Pebble Beach
This course was set along the bluffs of Santa Barbara. This course was laid out similar to pebble beach but for a 1/5 of the cost. There are about 7 holes located along the water with one that allows you to tee off direct facing the Pacific Ocean. I would suggest this course to any and everyone!
Worth a return visit! Sandpiper - Santa Barbara
Played about 24 holes. Pro shop allowed a start on the back nine, since #1 had 2 4somes waiting. Very interesting layout, long holes (from back tees) and great grubb from their indoor/iutdoor grill. Weather was nice at first, became overcast. We had a discounted green fee, $80 noontime. Great service...attendanr swapped out my spikes foe me!
Professional staff!
Great course for the GolfNow discount price of $105
Beautiful course! Really liked the staff and the course overall. The only thing I noticed was there was hardly ever a ball wash at the tee! So, having a clean ball on each hole was hard. I think they just need to add a ball wash to each hole or each cart, which ever is cheaper. We had a 12 noon tee time on a Saturday in November, so hoped 5 hours would be enough time to finish all 18. We just made it in 5 hours and invited the 2 some behind up to join us so they could finish as well.
Beautiful course/ great condition
The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful with hints for playing the course as it was my first time. Course was in pristine condition even in October. A great course with no gimmicky holes.
I will be back! Golfnow rate was 50% of regular so made it even better.
Pretty views and nice layout. But course was in poor condition.
Had a nice afternoon on the course. Several holes are right on the water so there are definitely nice views. However, many of the fairways had large, bare patches. Others had areas where they were trying to go new sod but it didn't seem like the grass was taking... Greens were in decent shape but they had sanded recently so they were running fairly slow.
Majestic course with a great layout
Loved this place! had course was in awesome condition in every aspect, had gorgeous views with lots of holes along the coastline, and the people there let us tee off an hour early since there was a little gap in tee times. Amazing experience
PACE OF PLAY
lOVE THE COURSE IT IS GREAT BUT MANAGEMENT CONDONED SLOW PACE OF PLAY AND WILL NOT ASK PLAYERS TO PICK UP THEIR PACE OF PLAY. POOR MANAGEMENT.!!!!!
potential to be a great course
I'm sorry to say lack of water and budget constraints have eroded the conditions of a formerly very good course.
If I paid the full rate, I would have been extremely upset. Having paid almost half price, I still don't think I will go out of my way to play there until I hear the county gives the course-manager funds to restore this former beauty. Maybe winter rains will help. I wouldn't go back any sooner.
great course, spectacular views, speedy greens but dry fairways.
Enjoyed this round very much. Course has plenty length. Many greens with views of beach and sea. Some nice elevation changes in the course. The greens are excellent. Quick but fair, stay below the hole or face a dreaded downhill putt.
Good driving range playing balls from grass. Balls, water, towels for cleaning is ready to use. Practice green is also for chipping and is big. Pitching area is limited.
Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Golf at the Beach
Great views, good golf. Greens are fast, course is in good shape. Perfect summer golfing on the ocean front. Not crowded. Course is challenging, but not frustrating.
Would play again and again.
Gun course
Fun course overall, but needs improvements in quantity of ball washers, yardage markers in the fairways, tee box grass is too high, pace of play would be greatly improved if waking twosomes and walking singles weren't put out in between players in carts. Messes the pace of play up flow up considerably and clauses players to rush as someone is always on your tail! Contact the gent in Pebble Beach who has been working with the PGA on some of the majors this year for his expertise! He has helped Pebble Beach if I am not mistaken and could help Sandpiper!
Had a great time overall, but some changes are needed!
Beautiful back nine...WOW.
Perfect summer day, late July, played as the fog broke around 1 pm. If you are not accustomed to the marine weather in the summer, you may be chilly in the mornings. Practice green was really fast and fooled us as we hit the course - we loved the greens though, lots of uphill from front to back.
