Challenging
Great course, challenging for sure. Greens are in great shape and not played like the city courses.
Always an adventure
This course is always a fun day. It's a difficult layout with many challenges. Beautiful scenery. Nice people who work there. Nice driving range.
Greens were disappointing
Very challenging course. Fun layout. Was disappointed with condition of the greens this time around.
Great day
Always fun to play La P. Tough course great layout. Greens were punched so they were bumpy, slow and hard for the ball to stay on line. Give it a few weeks and play it. Lots of sand on greens still
Left satisfied but expected more
I came to La Purisima as a midway point between my drive from the Bay Area to LA. It is certainly remote but in my opinion a great place to stop if you are making the drive. Weather was perfect but some locals told me if the wind is bad the course is borderline unplayable so definitely check the weather.
This course is very well respected among golfers as a strategic and challenging course. It is used as a qualifying course for the PGA and it's layout is perfect for that. The layout is unique with rolling hills and rewards you for great shots while punishing you for bad ones. There are very few holes where you can see the pin so you need to do some research before to make sure you hit the right spots. Often a few feet can make the difference between a lost ball and a great shot.
The scenery and overall views of the course are fantastic. Rarely in the Bay Area or LA do you get this much space with virtually no parallel fairways. The greens were also in spectacular shape.
With that all said there were some very disappointing negatives. I will give them some slack as it is winter time but the fairways were in pretty horrible shape. Dead spots everywhere even within a few feet of the greens. I lost several strokes getting stuck on dirt or dead grass on good tee shots. Perhaps different time of year it is better. Also there was no marshall the whole round which could have prevented an annoying pace of play issue.
The started told me that they packed the course and would take 5 hrs to play the round and said that if I booked on golfnow they wouldn't let me out early even if there were spots. I got there early as a single and refused to let me out early even with another single which basically artificially created odd numbered groups. The group in front of me was a single which was stupid with us being a threesome, the group behind was also three. A foursome in front of us were clearly the golf to drink type and made us wait 10 minutes every hole to hit each shot with no marshall in site. Luckily they let us pass at the turn so they could reload on swing oil.
Overall while I feel like it was a good value I definitely was underwhelmed given the prestige of the course. Very simple things like letting me out earlier and having a marshall would have made a huge difference which are all decisions management makes and completely solvable. The course condition can get some slack due to it being winter.
Love La Purisma
Arguably the best course in the tri-counties. They were punching some fairways the day we played but the greens were excellent. My local favorite course.
Sunny day
Greens were stellar but Sandra's were bare...covid
Very Nice Layout
Picturesque. Interesting holes that require some thought off the tee. Mostly forgiving, but some places where it gets tight. I recommend the course.
Great round
As usual, great round, always the case. Would play here every day if I could.
always a treat..
great round...tough greens very fast...but lots of fun..
Real pretty and challenging!
What a beautiful course! As beautiful as it is, it is also very challenging. It has a lot of elevation changes, which if you don't drive it straight, you'll be facing tough lies. The bunkers are strategically placed as well. I was lucky to be paired up with local regulars, who gave me great pointers on where to aim my shots off the tee. This course has been one of the most if not the most nature scenic filled courses I've played on. For those playing for the first time, don't forget to look up and look around and enjoy God's creation. The design of the entire track is perfect, no hole plays the same. I played the combo tees (blue/white) and it was quite challenging, from the tees, to the approach, to putting. The putts rolled pretty fast and true and heavy laden with undulations to make it challenging. I definitely recommend this course to all, maybe for except the high handicappers.
No Wind
Played and there was no wind for Nearly the entire round. Beautiful course and friendly staff. Will be there a mot
