I will never pay this again
Last time I played this 7 years ago this was a beautiful challenging course impeccably maintained. Sadly, they have let this property go. The cart paths are almost unusable the fairways have major dead spots. Hundreds of trees have died. Did they stop watering the course? The conditions are so bad we saw birds taking a bath in a pothole on a cart path. I am saddened that they have treated the course so badly that I plan on never coming back.
Not bad
A little out of way, but usually not too busy. However, players do not fix their divots, no sand trap here just dirt. Straight shots are a must.
Golf Course needs some Love
Great potential but run downed. Cart paths are worn out. No sand in the bunkers. Very dry.
Great setting, poor course conditions.
Great setting, poor course conditions, not a very good layout. They are closing this course soon to revamp and reconfigure it. Thats what I overheard during our round.
Good value with "Hot Deal"
Tight course, challenging greens. Friendly staff.
Nice to play a course with no traffic noise.
Would like to have a drink cart.
A very good experience
Staff is friendly, Marshal very helpful and answered all our questions, some of us had not played the course before. Great to play a round of golf and not wait for slow play. I highly recomend this course. The only drawback would be the sand traps, hard pack instead of sand, but still a great experience.
great location in the canyons
Beautiful views on the canyons
never too crowded
staff very friendly
love it
Would not drive to this course again at any price
Got a cheap price and for good reason too. Course was in bad shape like dried spots which didn't bother me too much because of the drought but also had a lot of muddy areas. The greens were yellow spotted with divots everywhere. The cart path was all broken up to where it felt like driving through rocks. The price was about half the normal price but not low enough for me to drive up there again.
Solid course, great atmosphere
Played here on a Sunday afternoon with a friend. We were able to play as a twosome, which is a positive. The course is in good shape overall. The greens rolled true and were very fast. Putting from below the hole is pretty important on this course. There are a number of blind tee shots. Not incredibly difficult, but not easy either.
The lack of a driving range was surprising, given the price for the round. That being said, they do have a net you can hit into for free.
The views/atmosphere were great. This is an incredibly peaceful place to play golf.
This course has good feature...
They should pay attention more to maintenance. It was OK for paying $55, but I don't think it is worth about $90.
great adventure
beautiful canyon, front 9 was great... quiet and peaceful, looking forward to playing again
Horrible Pace of Play
I love playing in Malibu because of the almost perfect weather and great scenery. However, every time I come here, I have to block off 6-8hrs because of the horrendous pace of play.
I golfed on Saturday at Skylinks in Long Beach with 4 people and it took 4.5hrs. On Sunday at Malibu Golf Club, it was only myself and a friend and it took over 7 hours.
Furthermore, we NEVER saw the cart girl or the marshal once. People were taking multiple shots off of the tee box even when they didn't have to hit a provisional ball. There was absolutely no order on the course at all.
This course is somewhat challenging for an intermediate golfer which makes it a nice course to play, but I will not continue to come here if it takes 7-8hrs to finish a round. My friends and co-workers don't even want to try to play the course because of how long it takes.
Bottom line: the club needs to do something about the pace of play.
Great golf course and great view
Course is in good shape even with water restriction due to the current drought condition. This was my first time play in this course. Local knowledge is a big advantage. Will play definitely again.
The course was in ok conditions.
I was a single and other groups let me play through without a problem. I hit multiple shots on most of the holes. Tee boxes were uneven and missing grass. I got a good deal on golf now... Wouldn't pay anymore than I did to play again. If I were to play again. Wasn't crazy about the course.
Will not play again
Greens and fairways in very poor condition. All services were closed by 5:00 pm on a Saturday.
A day at Malibu
I played this course 20 years ago and decided to try it again. Reading the other reviews about the course conditions prepared my for my arrival. The staff was friendly and the course is in need of maintenance while the layout is still challenging. I found the greens and fairways to be in Municipal Golf conditions but without the crowds.
Having booked a Fire Deal with GolfNow @ $33 I got what I paid for and I wouldn't pay much more than that.
Challenging but fair
Fair course. Well taken care of. Challenging but fair.
Nice Quiet Peaceful Course
This course is basically in the middle of the canyon, so you don't hear anything while you're playing. No cars, no trains, it's great!
It's a beautiful course, and everyone was really nice. It wasn't too hard, though I did lose many balls.
I didn't like the watering of the greens while we were on the holes, but I guess that happens every now and then.
What was really upsetting was the party in front of us, their cart battery died. They had to abandon it on a hole. The same happened to us on the 17th. That should NEVER happen. Afterwards, on the 18th, they brought us another cart, and that one had a GPS screen on it. The original one we had didn't. I felt a little ripped off, considering they had the GPS option, and they let us take a cart without one. That's not good customer service.
Great day for golf.
Great day for golf, course was in good condition greens were true weather was perfect, thanks Malibu.
Not worth 50 for a hot dea
I am a scratch player I have played numerous courses in my time playing and I will say this was the worst 50 dollar hot deal I have ever had. By golfnow. Not saying it's golfnow fault but this course has no sinks and the toilets were broken. No water for drinking and the conditions are sub par of a muni. Do not spend 100 or 50 for this course you will be severely disappointed. My friend told me that I would and he was 100 percent right. The conditions and bathrooms were that of Venice beach. From my understanding this was a great pristine course 4 or 5 years ago but has gone extremely down hill. The staff from who I met I would give 5 stars very nice. But you don't pay to play with the staff. You can have more fun at balboa gc. Instead and feel better about the price.
