This course was fun
We were paired up with 2 other golfers, but we had a great time. It looks like there is a bunch of holes, tee boxes, and bunkers under repair, likely due to all the rain we received this winter. But it was a great time.
the course was fun, lots of water. it definitely needs more yardage markers.
Golf with Strangers
I had a great time, but the course continues to require improvement. This is the third time in two months that I played at the course and can see it getting better and better. I will go back this month for further evaluation.
Got a good deal and was pleasantly surprised.
Got a good deal and was pleasantly surprised.
Based on reviews past few years, was not expecting much but you can see how hard they are working to improve this course - greens were really good ( challenging and incredibly good conditions)
Sure, parts of the fairways had issues but overall very playable and fun.
Course in Poor Shape
The course needed a lot of work, and there was a tire marks and hokes and weeds on a lot of holes.
Big improvement !
This was only my second time playing Rio Vista, the first time was two years ago and they have made massive improvements since then ! Most of the bunkers had sand and were well maintained, some bunkers were still unplayable, every green was in amazing shape although as others have said they are very slow, the fairways still have some bad sports but you can tell they are working on it, I would recommend playing here again if you haven’t in a while, for $41 on a Friday morning with a cart it’s hard to beat.
Has potential
I played this course because it was a great deal on Teeoff.com at $21. Upon checking in the nice man told me that the course was being rehabilitated from a previous owner. Overall the couse was in good condition with 3 exceptions Greens were VERY slow maybe a 2-3 stimp , Fairway bunkers are filled with grass and the rough was way too long. I lost 4 balls in the open rough with decent drives. That's Very frustrating and all of the golfers I spoke with on the course had the same opinion.
A bit more rehab and I would try this course again
Windy and needs some good repair.
As always the Rio Vista course had plenty of wind to slow me down. It was not as bad as before pandemic. There were several potholes and sinkholes in the fairway that were quite rocking to drive the cart on. They were agonizing, even hurting my back. The wind picked up its velocity quite a bit. Pace of the play was great because of the wind, they’re just a few players on the course.
Going back to Rio
The last time I golfed at Rio Vista was an unforgettable negative experience. I was very disappointed of the condition of the course and the unfriendly attitude in the club house. This time I had a much difference and pleasant experience. The course was in much better shape and Bessie was a very pleasant lady to talk with. I also very much appreciated Jessie the courtesy drink cart for she was kind and considerate. I will go back to Rio and play golf there again. .
Want a Challenge? Then Rio Vista is A MUST PLAY!!!
I am truly surprised that this course has only 3 stars overall. After taking a closer look, seeing all the recent 5 star reviews, and speaking with the friendly pro shop manager, I learned that Rio Vista has been under new management and care for the past 3 years and they have really been doing their best to make this a must play course in the Bay Area.
There are beautiful views throughout, challenging hazards to keep you on your toes and rolling hills that make me picture what the original courses in Scotland must have been like. You really need a plan of attack for each shot and it helps to have such an informative website for those that like to prepare for a course if it is your first time.
I highly recommend this course for anyone looking to test their golf skills!
Better than expected
Played the course in the middle of 2022 and conditions were horrible. Read a few reviews regarding improvements and decided to take a chance. To my surprise, course was 100 times better than they were the first time i played. Still some bad spots, looks like they are working on the sprinkler systems in some areas. Course could be a gem with some more work and proper maintenance, but again 100 time better than 2022. Keep up the maintenance and the course will be awesome.
Big Improvement from summer of 2022
This course has the potential to be great. It has it;s challenges for sure. Big improvements over the last 6-8 months. Active bunkers were good, tee boxes good and greens were excellent. Some fairways had bad spots while others were decent or above. Overall, this is going to be a great course if management/owners continue to put the work in. Looks like they are currently working on the sprinkler/watering systems on a few holes. Still some overgrown clovers on some of the side roughs. Pleasantly surprised with the progress. Keep it up and make that course great.
120% improvement.
Perfect weather in the mid-70’s with little breeze made the game to be the most enjoyable in a long time while. The management made a great improvement in years. They showed their willingness to do good business now.
Tee boxes have new color markers and cleaner than before.
Fairways have been worked on and they are almost to the pre-COVID-19 era. Need yard markers still.
Bunkers. They made the greatest improvements here 200%. Almost enough sand to make it playable.
Ponds still stinking some but endurable.
Greens. This is where they still need to improve. Must have punched recently which is okay but there are still few places where they need to do some patchwork. Greens are not fast enough due to sanding and punching.
Our cart died at 17th green but we managed to pull it out and maneuvered to finish the round.
Pro shop has enough merchandise and the new staff members were super friendly and courteous with professional attitude. We didn’t miss the old grumpy staff member who were quite bossy and annoying.
We will definitely play more here and even bring some friends.
Kudos to the managers and the maintenance staff for your good work. Please keep it up.
Course conditions are improving!
Management is working on getting the course ready for the summer.
