Bonaventure Golf Club
Bonaventure Golf Club (formerly known as Bonaventure Country Club) is a classic Florida layout with holes routed through strands of mature palms and hardwoods, and around numerous water hazards and expansive bunkers. This course, designed by Joe Lee, is also called the Green Monster. Some people call it the Cascade Course because of the waterfall on the picturesque 160-yard, par-3 third. This signature hole has a waterfall that stretches across the front of the green.

I have played this course for the past 25 years and live in the community. I watched the demise of the “sister” West Course so that god awful square block mega homes can be built there. So I don’t want to see the East Course suffer the same fate. That said work needs to be done. Several of the greens appeared to have a disease and were in terrible shape. The signature waterfall was not working again. This apparently due to an electrical problem. The staff is very friendly and nice. That is the golf staff. The restaurant staff is inattentive and needs work on customer service. It’s so bad we just quit eating there after a round.
That said, the course is the most challenging layout in Broward County. You better be long off the tee and straight to play the whites. (Inexplicably this is the only course I have ever played in the US where the white tees are longer than the blue). The greens are well protected. Not especially tricky but enough contour to make you work for some putts.
I still recommend the course but it needs some work.
Bonaventure Golf Course
Love the course. Only reason I gave it a four on conditions was that the greens were in need of repair.
Worst course in Florida by far. Not even any competition.
Good layout and great service. Course a little roached but decent
Not a good value
Price through GolfNow was much higher than summer rate at the course.
Great Layout, Poor Maintenance
Great layout with challenging holes. Greens and fairways had bare spots (Several greens were green only because of green sand used to mask the large bare spots). Virtually every sand trap looked like it had not been raked for a week. Would recommend only if these issues get cleaned up.
Bonaventure Weston Fl
Nice Course but somewhat challenging. We have played the Course before. Some holes are tricky. Back nine is more challenging. We will play it again this week.
Could be better
I played this course maybe 10 years ago. I was disappointed with the conditions of the course today. The layout is very good and fun to play . Water comes into play on a number of holes so course management is a premium when you play. The condition of the greens is fair to good and your ball rolls well and true. The fairways and tee boxes are fair at best. There are many weeds and bare spots. The course needs some TLC for these areas. The bunkers are inconsistent; some are soft and have fluffy sand while others are hard with little sand. My value to the dollars I paid was fair since I had a discounted rate. This could be a very good course if additional money was spent in maintaining and improving the condition of the tees and fairways.
Lots of water in some challenging locations for the less-than-accurate golfer, greens were in good condition. Some amenities were in disrepair like water jugs and ball washers missing but still pretty good value.
This was the first time I played the course. I must say I rally enjoyed my round. The pace of play was reasonable (we were a foursome) and the course is in good condition. The greens are very fast and difficult, the rest of the course is fairly challenging due to so much water.
.Should not take over 5 hours to play a course
The pace was very, very slow. Noted one group had 6 players. Players wait. Til greens are cleared before teeing off which makes it even slower. We quit after14th hole as it would take another hour or more to finish. There was no one to encourage players to keep up with the pace. Certainly did not get our monies worth . Waited over 20 mins at times to tee off.
Course was better then most— greens very quick and T Boxes just ok. BUT the pace of play was horrible—- they left a 6 some — yes 6 players!!! T off st 1:00 which held up everybody. We T off at 1:30 and left after 14 at 5:30– every hole we passed had 4 to 6 players and none of them would T off until the group ahead were on the green— saw the “ course host” twice and both times he jokingly said “ hope your not in a hurry “
