Bonaventure Golf Club
Bonaventure Golf Club (formerly known as Bonaventure Country Club) is a classic Florida layout with holes routed through strands of mature palms and hardwoods, and around numerous water hazards and expansive bunkers. This course, designed by Joe Lee, is also called the Green Monster. Some people call it the Cascade Course because of the waterfall on the picturesque 160-yard, par-3 third. This signature hole has a waterfall that stretches across the front of the green.

Greens and fairways were in very poor shape
Course has a great layout, but the conditions were bad. Couldn’t tell rough from fairway. Greens were fuzzy and has crabgrass and weeds. Avoid until there is any resemblance of normal maintenance.
The course has degraded
I have played this course on and off for almost ten years. I have not seen it in such poor shape as this time. The fairways, greens, and surrounding areas were not well maintained. There were many fairways and greens with weedy grass and greens with rough patches, weeds, and holes. I was very disappointed with the experience. This was once a pristine course.
Money better spent
The course had a great lay out, but unfortunately it ends there.
1. I used an online app to make the reservations. Fee was $21 to make reservations. When I got to the clubhouse I had to split that fee with all golfers as their discount. I should have had it available to use as credit for my fee.
2. Tee boxes were NOT mowed and to say SHAGGY....understatement as the rough was shorter.
3. Cart path only (no one's fault but it just made the day longer, hotter and more unpleasant).
4. Greens are sketchy at best. Burned in a lot of places, not mowed and in truly poor shape.
5. Made turn, bought beverages. I had 2 twenties. Gave one to attendant and he shorts me $10.
6. Asked employees where the putting clock was...they had no idea (asked 4 different people)
7. Mats at driving range have seen better days, groves worn in them from OLD AGE.
Just not the experience I was hoping for in such an storied course.
Reminded me of an under budgeted Municipal course.
Course was wet, so not much roll out. Heavy rough made it challenging finding wayward shots. Fairways are good, greens are OK and very slow particularly on the front 9. Played as a single in 2 1/2 hours.
The greens were great
I didn’t know what to expect but hoped it would be a great round of golf. I was not disappointed. The greens and fairways were well manicured. You need to experience this course.
Good layouts and chalk holes! but need some work on some of the greens!
Worst pace of play
Of course I had to put up with focus 19 rules fine but there was absolutely no starter no one to run the tee sheet pace of play was awful the greens were super slow the rough hadn’t been cut 5 hours to play 18 holes and it’s not even season and to tee off for 44.00 was a waste of a Saturday and the course conditions were just awful
Save your money don’t go
Save your money don’t go. Haven’t played this course in years. It used to be a nice golf course. Now it Hass to be one of the worst in Broward County. Can’t believe they are charging $50 for this goat ranch. It’s horrible you’re better off going to a cow pasture and hit balls.
Very and organized and if you want to spend five hours out in the sun, go get a cooler of beer and go to the beach. You’ll be happier
Played Bonaventure this morning for the first and last time. Greens have large defects & are scarred with patches of mowed weeds in places. Slowest greens I’ve ever played. Unmanaged rough right off fairways.
A good course gone bad
This course was once in great shape but has fallen on hard times. The greens were practically the length of a fairway on a good course. I’ve never putted on a green that slow in my entire life. Many of the tee boxes are in horrible shape with barely any grass. I will never play here again because it’s very overpriced for what you are getting. If you spend more than $25 to play at Bonaventure, you will be disappointed.
Greens Good, Fairways Hard
I've played this course several times and was not disappointed this year. The greens were improved, but the fairways were dry and hard. It is a relatively long and challenging course with lots of water in play.
Course layout is very good, but water on 16 of 18 holes puts a lot of pressure on your tee shots and many approaches. A windy day made driving difficult, playing off whites about 6200 yards. If you don’t hit a long ball I suggest you play the forward tees, it plays really long especially in the wind. Many greens were patchy and in need of TLC.
I played this course a few years after it opened, in the mid 70's. It was spectacular -- the layout was outstanding and the course conditions were always terrific. The tee you choose to play from will determine the level of difficulty, as it should be. At this time, the layout is still fantastic, but the course conditions were poor. At least five greens had grass--less spots, some as big as 10' in diameter. The fairways were not too bad, but the traps around the greens lacked sand so that the linings came through the sand, not a good situation for a Joe Lee course. Not sure what you're supposed to do there other than move the ball (or stay out of the trap:). To pay $70 was too much. This course could be one of the best in Florida if it could be properly maintained. There are some really great holes -- memorable, tough, and fair. But it's a disappointment to play it under current conditions. When the people I played with who were from up north asked if it was because of the growing season, that question unfortunately said everything there was to say about it.
A good value
Bonaventure is an interesting and challenging course. There are several holes (5th, 7th, and 18th) that present excellent golf decision making opportunities. The pace of play on this day (Tuesday, 11:00 AM tee time) was very good (less than 4 hours). I was disappointed in the general condition of the course, specifically, many greens in need of repair and most fairways in need of maintenance. Also, the starters seemed to be disorganized. None of these criticisms, however, will keep me from returning to Bonaventure.
