University of South Florida Golf Course - The Claw
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 10/2023.
The newly renovated Claw at USF, named thus for its many doglegged fairways, offers a distinct layout that seamlessly winds through moss draped oaks and towering pines on pristine Florida preservation land. You will enjoy the fact that there are no houses crowding the fairways. Located at the University of South Florida, this manicured course is home to alligators, deer, turkeys and many other rare inhabitants. You will feel like you are playing in the heart of a nature preserve. "The Claw" is also home to the nationally ranked men's and women's USF Golf Teams. Elevated greens and new Tif-Dwarf putting surface, will test your finesse and shot making ability.

Needs Attention
Course layout was great but the tee boxes, fairways and greens are in poor condition. Pro shop a d clubhouse building are boarded up and everything is run out of what looks like a construction trailer. The golf carts were dirty and covered in pollen. Very disappointing for the money paid to play there. USF should have some pride and fix the course so their golf team can actually play there.
Lots of potential
Tight course, raised greens. Greens were decent, couple issues with a few greens, fairways were sparse., nice layout
This course is in poor conditions
The staff and all are very nice at the course, but the conditions of the course are just near terrible. Tee boxes are unplayable, and the grass around the greens is awful.
There were carts available and pace of play was great
tee boxes in bad shape
Some tee boxes were in really bad shape with just sand so ur pretty much hitting out of a bunker off the tee which is the first time for me. The greens were really fast but u can tell that their drying out so hopefully the greens don’t get burned up. The layout is really nice and challenging just wish everything else was more taken cared of.
The Claw
Zero effort of maintenance in the front 9. Sad that such a well laid out course is in such terrible shape.
Tee boxes are sand pits
Course is not taking care of at all tee boxes are all sand. Sand traps are not raked. Greens have golf cart tracks across them and have large spots of sand and random long grass in them. Sprinklers were on in the middle of the day. All the grass was dead. It is a shame because it is a challenging course that could be beautiful.
Stay away !!!!
This course has you believing that it is affiliated with the University of Southern Florida that is so far from the truth they do practice there, and that facility is off-limits to the public. The course is a joke. Tea boxes are nothing but sandbox, and the greens are the worst that I have ever played on.
Stay away !!
We thought that this course being affiliated with university would be an impeccable shape . Tboxes are sandpits greens, horrible what a waste. The only thing that’s affiliated with university is there practicing area which is off-limits to the general public
Bad Tees
A lot of the tee boxes are nothing but dirt. Most of the greens are decent but not great.
many greens had bare patches. Some tee boxes had no grass at all just sand,
