Cypress Lakes Country Club
About
Cypress Lakes Country Club is the centerpiece of the Ormond community, a neighborhood of more than 500 homes. Blending seamlessly into the surrounding cypress trees, the golf course is both challenging and scenic. You'll have to navigate your way around 17 different ponds that come into play throughout the course. With several forced carries over wetlands, it will feel like there is water at every turn. There are also 40 strategically placed bunkers bordering the greens and fairways. It's a layout that will test your accuracy and ability to strategize. Multiple sets of tees keep scratch golfers happy while beginners can also approach the course with confidence. In addition to the golf course, Cypress Lakes has a practice facility featuring a 400-yard driving range with multiple targets and putting and chipping greens.

Decent course
Booked a $15 tee time. With fees, it was about $20 with cart. Front 9 greens were pretty decent, back nine greens had some rough spots that didn’t allow the ball to roll true. Greens weren’t slow; they had a nice pace. Fairways were nice.
Slow pace of play
Played on a Sunday afternoon. It was very crowded. Had fivesome and a foursome in front of me that we’re both very slow.
The Fairways were very firm and there were a lot of bare spots with no grass in many parts. The greens are very nice but firm.
Apparently the course has made some improvements in past year or two. I’m glad. Some holes have a real personality, but others are just straight ahead. I enjoy water challenges & hit into water 6 times. Beans. But I’ll be in charge more next time I play.
So close, yet so far...
They have obviously put a bit of money and effort in course improvements. The greens were replaced last year and have good grass, but do not roll true. Every green is lumpy and likely won't be corrected until they are punched and rolled in June. The fairway grass is non-existent at times due to a new irrigation system being installed. Staff is excellent, helpful and enthusiastic. Good luck figuring out the restaurant schedule. They only seem to be open when they want to be. I look for this course to be much improved by September.
Course is looking good
Greens roll well and have a good pace. Recent rains are helping the fairways and rough green up and thicken. Pace of play for a midday Saturday round was not bad, our 3 some played in just over 3 hours.
The course is in great shape and the greens are fantastic.
Fair Value
If you are local to the course area or on a tight budget, I get why play here. All tee boxes are narrow and not flat. Ragged edges of cups look like have not been moved in days. A lot of water hazards are not visible on the course, need an app view.
I found a Gem!!
Great staff, wonderful layout. Even after a night of heavy rain, the course was in wonderful condition. This I one of the best courses, I’ve played, in Louisiana. I would absolutely recommend this course.
great course just sloooow play
Course is in awesome shape, greens a little slow but great shape,
reason for this review is I booked a 1030 tee time. got there hit a few. putted a few because I saw 2 foursome of older guys (70 to 80) teeing off. So, I figured I would let them roll and not get stuck behind them. Well, it was at Least 5 groups maybe more, Supposedly on Tuesday and Thursday They play the same Time.
Which is cool I am 62 and hope to be able to play at that age.
NOW comes the problem. Finally tee off and lo and behold catch them on the (th. and started my wait on then. 0nly one group would let me pass (Single and was Smoking them today. Went from +2 at the turn to finishing at +8 not including the last three holes.
So, I get to the Clubhouse and realized it was a bigger group than I thought. Like I said Great that they are Playing at that age But Let the Single Through. So frustrated I am putting the cubs in the trunk add P guess it was the Pro or Asst comes up and ask me, how was your round. Had quite a few of the group there I said talk to you when you finish with the carts. Now first thing I said Was Ya'll need to have a Marshall on the course. He Kinda laughed and talked about the groups. I said That cool, but you could have told me I could have eaten lunch and let them finish. He just kept Laughing thinking it was funny, when you pay that money and want to enjoy yourself. It isn't FUNNY.
Same ole story
These greens have been getting "repaired " for 10 years now. They just can't seem to get it right. Super sandy and bumpy. No checkup or stopping the ball on any green. Putting rolls were bumpy, sandy and did not roll true, very slow.
Maybe this summer?? 😆
Thanks for the review. If you are unaware, all 19 greens were replaced in June of 2023. We reopened in September of 2023. If you would like further proof of that, you can look at any of our social network channels. We are certainly happy with the progress our greens have made in such a short amount of time.
The greens were only sandy because we have to top dress them regularly, which was likely relayed to you in the proshop. The top dressing process was completed the day before your made your review. So naturally some sand remained on the greens.
The greens are expected to be slightly bumpy as they are brand new. It will take years until they can achieve the "true roll" you are expecting. We do our best to roll the greens when we can.
Also, the sand you referenced is is put down to help level out the playing surface.
The no check or spin you are referencing is impacted by the sand on the greens. In addition, brand new greens will always firm.
We are also still in the winter/non growing season which will also have an impact on the grass conditions.
While we appreciate the feedback, please be sure you have all the facts before issuing a review with incorrect information. We have invested a significant amount of money to get the course back into playable condition after Hurricane Ida, and we are quite pleased with where we are now. However, we know there is still plenty of room for improvement.
