Lakewood Golf Club
About
Lakewood Golf Club is one of the South's premier golf destinations. Opened in 1961, the course has hosted the New Orleans Open 26 times over the years. Beautiful cypress and oak trees frame the golf course, providing a beautiful backdrop throughout the round. When Ron Garl renovated the course in 2009 he managed to obtain its original character while modernizing the layout with new fairways, tee boxes, and greens. Strategically placed bunkers and fairway contouring were also added. Lakewood Golf Club is owned by the New Orleans Firefighters Pension Fund and as a tribute to New Orleans Firefighters, the final hole was redesigned and renamed "Fire in the Hole." Called so because the traps are arranged in a set of flames against a backdrop of red sand. You won't find anything like the bunkering on this par 4.

NOLA’s player course.
Great course! The course is in great shape and the greens are fast. The pace is also very good. The staff is very professional. I will play this course again. I rank it as of the best in the area.
I don't want to let people in on this secret.
This is the best course for the money in the Greater New Orleans area. The staff is amazing. The layout is fun and can be difficult. It is always in good shape and the almost island [over 240° of the circle hole 17 is sweet. It is really worth a try. A million times better than the new City Park
Always Nice
The course was in good shape as usual the greens are sneaky fast
Awesome
Do play here when in New Orleans. Awesome course and great staff. will play again if ever back in the big easy on a side note do not play Joseph Bartholomew rude staff other golfers are rude and no pace of play etiquette
Very nice course
Course staff was very friendly. Course is in good shape. Greens had a little crabgrass but were still very playable. Bermuda greens and fairways are in good shape. Water is in play in a few holes. Fun course to play.
Eastbank meets Westbank for the First Time
I had only heard about Lakewood about a year ago even though I had lived in the New Orleans area (Eastbank) for 4 years. Based on the green fee price, I expected Lakewood G.C. to be a premier course. My experience proved this to be true. While Lakewood is wide-open which suits my game well, the presence of so many water hazards on so many holes (at least 12) proved to be a challenge. Most holes were moderate in length and so accommodatable to the average golfer. The traps were in very good shape and well-maintained. The greens were recently aerated and sanded but rolled pretty-true. In a few weeks they should be excellent. Overall, it was a good golfing experience and if I weren't relocating to Texas, Lakewood would be a regular stop on my golf days!
BIG JOHN REVIEW
Unfortunately, the greens had just been sanded, making the putting on the course very frustrating. I look forward to coming back when the course firms up. There should be a notification that such measures have been implemented.
Another amazing round
This course is always top notch every time I play it. Top tier on the Westbsnk for sure.
great/fast round
Played on a Tuesday afternoon, just me and my wife. We were the only people out there and played in under 2.5 hours. Course was in great shape except for the greens although really can't count that against them since they had just aerated. Will definitely play here again soon
Great Shape
1st time playing there. Course was in great shape. Good Fairways. Nice fast greens in perfect shape. Friendly staff.
Flat, Fun Course - Quick Greens
This was my first time playing Lakewood New Orleans. When I drove up, I thought the place was going to be terrible as everything looked pretty shaggy and rough while driving to the course. However, I was VERY PLEASANTLY surprised.
The course was fun and fair. It was challenging knowing where the holes go as this was my first time playing the course. Many of the tee shots are curved or blind as to the where the green was located. It is a great to play with someone who has played before to show you where the hole is located and to where to hit your tee shots.
The club house is not too much to write home about, but I don't play for golf for an extravagant club house. I play golf for a nice, fun, challenging course which Lakewood is in abundance.
I will definitely be back to play again. The greens were quick and ran true. There is no elevation changes at all on the course so the ball rolls a long way both on the fairways as well as the greens.
OK value.
There was a tournament ahead of us (2some) that postpaid our tee time. This was OK and explained by the staff.
The pro shop isn't much. Food was adequate.
The course was coming back for the spring. Greens were consistent and fairways were decent.
The layout required using the map to navigate but useful.
Great greens and beautiful tree carvings of wildlife!
Beautiful lay out with several challenging holes! Greens were perfect and fast!
Great day
It had been about 2 months since I have played and it was great. The weather was beautiful but Wendy. The course was in great shape and the greens were fast. My buddy and I had a great time and thought the price for the round was fair. Over all, I would recommend this course to anyone.
Finally dryu
Course finally dry
Greens great shape.fajrways were soft on some holes but great enjoying to be playing again. Appreciate your efforts to maintain course.
