February golf
Enjoyed playing this course and at $36.00 through Golf Now it was a great value.
Cold weather golf with too much leaves
The weather was a tad cold but playable. Pace was ok but the most annoying at time of play was the fact that fall leaves were too much concentrated on sides of fairways that balls easily gets lost, unless you hit middle fairway. Could have used a bit of course clean up by blowing leaves outward some more.
All the smoke
Booked a hot deal this past Sunday at 11:40, first time playing Reston in 5+ years. Chose to play the black tees - 6500 yards and walk to get the extra challenge. Managed to play a pretty decent round (88) even through 20 mph winds and a lot of leaf trouble. In the end #17 is like a 425 yard straight shot uphill, body was done after that one. It's a slopey course that really tests a lot of your clubs in the bag. Played with 2 others, 3.5 hour round. For $45 on the weekend, give me all the smoke, I'll enjoy my time on this course no matter what.
Good, not great, course especially when considering price
Course is well kept, fine amenities. The price is way out of line with comparable courses in the area. Price posted does not include cart. For $91 during the week I would expect level tee boxes without sandy patches.
Not worth the money
Not nearly worth the money. Most traps were ground under repair and course was not in very good condition. No beverage cart. Round took over 5 hours. Way too much money given everything stated above
Love this golf course
If I get a chance getting a good deal from GolfNow for this golf course on a weekend, I will play Reston every time. Closest course to where I reside, the course condition was great , and coupled with nice weather, it was good day to play golf. Finished the course in 4 hours 20 minutes, not bad time and close to perfect pace. There though need s TLC for the tee boxes, but otherwise overall great.
Odd
Had the weirdest round playing reston with a buddy. We were paired with a couple that seemed to be friendly enough. We let them hit first and then it was off to the races. The gentleman would always go first and immediately start walking out to his ball and set up for his next shot. Not only was this extremely stressful to try and not hit him on every shot but he would also leave his wife behind. He would get to the green and stand by his ball while we tried to approach eventually just finishing his hole in rapid succession. He eventually just started playing ahead to the point if moving on the the next holes without us and hitting into the group ahead of us. Mind you we did play terrible bc of the rushing pace and stress but as soon as we let him go at the 5th the game relaxed and we shook off the odd situation. I understand wanting to move quickly for an after work round but we all work but maintaining a pace of 5 holes in 25-30 minutes is a bit insane. After things calmed down and we found our stride on the back 9 and had tremendous fun. Well until a few more odd circumstances. A couple or single wanted to replay some holes or something and drove back past us to then play behind us. They drove into us twice as we were making our approaches. We also waited on the tee box for a man and his dog to stop playing on the fairway for a couple minutes on 13. A lady stopped to ask us questions on a hole towards the end and I got the impression that people use the course as their local park. There were dog prints in sand traps and constantly a walker or biker riding by. I like that reston has communal spaces but for me this ain’t it. I have been looking into a club membership in the area and reston is extremely close so it was near the top of my list. I have taken classes here, I practice here and I like the course enough. Its not challenging necessarily and the greens are tremendously slow but it is in good condition, cost effective and fun. After this experience I have absolutely crossed reston off the list lol.
Good local course
Played here for the first time. Contrary to many bad reviews, the course was actually pretty good. Good layout and generally pretty good condition. Greens were on a slower side but very playable. A 4:10 round on a Wed afternoon was not bad either. I’ll certainly be back.
Course Was in Rough Shape
The course was not in great shape. They took little effort to clear leaves from anywhere but the greens.
Just not worth it and that’s a shame
I was scheduled to play on Sunday at 7:40. That is the 2nd tee time out. Unfortunately there was a frost delay until 930… it happens.
Was told that they would be doing a shotgun start we would start on hole 8 and not be letting anybody off after 11 o’clock to make sure those who started would not have to run into anyone once they made the turn. This was a lie. When we got back around to the first hole, there was a group on the tea and another group on the green. I asked, the lady (who was manning the starters podium) why there were people on the tee and on the green when this was clearly not what was said to us earlier. She said, “It wasn’t her decision”. She was very nice by the way.
If they were going to let people off, I wouldn’t have cared less, but they should not have communicated some thing that was blatantly incorrect. I would have chosen not to play at all. For people who want to get to the course early and play in early round, you know what I mean.
For the first five holes on our front nine we waited on every single shot for the group that was let off in front of us to hit. Totally frustrating.
If I had booked a 9:30 tee time that I would never have been upset and I would have expected a long drawn out round, but this is just one in a line of tons of issues this course has.
The worst of all is it is literally five minutes away from my house and I would love to be able to go there, but simply won’t ever again!!! it’s just not worth it for me to get frustrated every time I go out there.
They’ve lost a customer for life. Plus, if you’re ordering on GolfNow, what they don’t tell you specifically is the $88 rate does NOT include a golf cart. If you want one of those, you have to add $15 more to the total. Definitely not worth it for $100+. I’d rather drive for 40 - 50 minutes and play a phenomenal course than to play this one again.
