Course needs TLC
The course is in “ok” condition…I expected better especially with the high weekend rate which doesn’t include the cart. Several of the greens were patchy and showed signs of disease. Speed of the greens weren’t consistent throughout, some were ok, others were slow. Fairways hadn’t been mown recently and as such had varying degrees of growth showing. Bunkers definitely need work since several were treated as GUR. The chipping and putting areas were in great condition however, the driving range was limited to irons only. Overall, it was a good round that didn’t match the $101 weekend rate. Word of advice, play this course during the week.
This course is in disrepair
For being in such a high dollar area, they sure haven't spent any of that money on the upkeep of the course. It was in very very poor condition. Layout is good and would be a fine course with a little investment.
No friendliness
Did not expect a primo conditions and staff.
One particular starter on my play time was horrible. He was rather hostile toward the players.
I was given the cart key, and he hastily asked that I give him the key back when I told him I did not yet check in with the pro-shop because I've already paid online.
He was horribly, and I think he tried to be nasty to the players intentionally, I felt. I did not take it to the extreme complain. But, this alone gives me a reason not to play there anymore. There are plenty of courses with very friendly staff including starters. When the starter thinks that he is the ultimate authority, then the course should get rid of him/her or put them to a training course that they will think twice about being a starter, whether he/she is paid or not.
The first and and the last impression come from the staff, including the starter.
I will NOT recommend this course again, nor will I play again.
Nice layout, average conditions
This course is an "old style" layout, heavily wooded but with generously sized greens and fairly wide fairways. The greens are pretty rough and some of the bunkers have no sand and are currently signed as "ground under construction". These conditions make the fees less than a value even though they are medium priced for the area. That being said I enjoyed the course and would consider playing it again if they get some sand in the bunkers and upgrade the greens to match the rest of the course.
Going down hill
The conditions have deteriorated and the rates have increased. Is this a ploy to make a sale to developers more possible?
First Time was the Last Time
Started the day with the starter & group at the tee box yelling at each other. Played all 18 & the course was in very poor condition. Sand traps didn’t have sand, more like clay. Many of the greens looked like a backwoods bar’s 30 year old pool table. At the turn our group went into the grill and … no hot food. On the back 9, there were people randomly walking around and on 13 or 14 there was a family sitting in the rough playing with their kid - 40-50 yards from the tee box. I’d recommend fighting the gnats after it rains at Penderbrook before I ever suggest paying $80-100 for this course.
Continues to disappoint
Maybe it's because the owners of Reston National are trying to sell part (or all?) of the course to put in residences and don't want to invest but the experience/course was just not in good shape: the rough and greenside areas were too long and penal for a daily-fee, everday-player course + bare spots and crabgrass especially around greenside traps + tees spotty. The range was irons-only which was a major negative to me as was the practice green being monopolized for junior clinics. I had stayed away after my last also disappointing visit during summer '21 and will be staying away again.
Good course but overpriced
If you can get this course on a Hot Deal, it's a great course, otherwise it's so overpriced. It's generally well maintained but not a $90 course.
Needs major improvements
Overpriced due to locations and that is fine but the conditions are atrocious.
New management sucks
Just a few years ago it cost less than half of what the corse is charging today.
They do not allow any play of less than 18 holes.
They discriminate against veterans and seniors with no discounts on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
They have the tee times spaced at 6 minutes apart. T they have no Marshall’s to monitor the pace of play.
Yesterdays round was 5 hours and 45 minutes.
They had. I sandwichesnor hot dogs at the turn. Half the greens sucked and almost every tee box was torn up.
Mother course is a joke. You wil find more for less if you look around
Terrible course with rude staff
Terrible course, unfriendly unhelpful staff
Not worth half the cost
Too expensive for a mediocre “cow path” course at best
The course is in terrible condition with slow greens . From fairways to roughs to greens it is not worth the money. The staff provides no assistance, the signage on the course is basically non existent,
The blue forward tees are designed for a beginner golfer while the silver tees increase the yardage so the intermediate golfer really struggles with course & conditions!
Too expensive, with little value or enjoyment for the cost? This is one course we will not play again!
What’s happened?
Have been playing this course for 20 years but it’s not the same. No drivers allowed on the range? The bunkers look like mud pits with weeds growing out of them. Course layout has always been good but pace of play is brutal. Last weekend the only two employees I saw were in high school, we waited for 10 minutes on every hole. Clubhouse has been redone but still nothing special. Hard to justify $90 these days.
