Style Desert
Par 71
Length 6917 yards
Slope 142
Rating 72.9

The Boulders Golf Club & Resort complex features two outstanding 18-hole courses. Both courses are very well maintained, and the scenery is incredible. Boulder's South Course is exactly the type of desert course people come to the Phoenix-Scottsdale resort corridor to play. A round of golf on the South kicks off on the par-4 first hole, which measures 421 yards from the blue tees, which is quickly followed by a short par 3, measuring 150 yards from the blue tees. Things get long on the fifth hole, a 545-yard par 5, which is just a warm-up for the 11th hole, a par 5 that measures 601 yards from the blue tees. It doesn't get much easier to finish: The 18th is a par 5 that measures 513 yards from the blue tees.

Recent course changes

Visitors are no longer allowed to play the North course. This was not clear at all until you get there. The Morth course is longer and allows more driver use. Not ideal but the South course was still beautiful and challenging

Boulders South - Beautiful and Challenging

The Boulders South course offers a fair challenging experience with significant ambience. The views and boulder formations are outstanding. The conditioning is great. On the expensive side, but a worthy golfing experience.

Good course layout but didn't enjoy due to poor pace of play

Played the South course. The layout and conditions were good. Navigating the tee boxes for a first-timer is challenging. Pace of play was horrendous. We had a 5hr 25min round. Just painful. Didn't enjoy the round as I should have after paying $195.

Absolutely Disappointing!!!

When you pay $429 for a round of golf, you ought to at least feel like the ownership is doing their best to maintain the course to a level worthy of the cost. This was incredibly disappointing. The greens are on par with a mediocre small town muni course. The poa and other random grasses on the greens make putting impossible. It’s not a few spots here and there but rather an infestation across all 18 greens. The cups from previous rounds were not flush and typically had large clumps of grass around them. As mentioned in other reviews, the greens are rock hard. You will not be able to hold a wedge shot or check a chip. You would typically be forced to play short and have the ball release to the hole. This doesn’t happen as the fairways short of the greens are very soft and don’t release. The fairways are browning out and have various grasses growing through similar to what cheap muni courses offer. It’s as much of an eyesore as it is frustrating to play out of. Several tee boxes have minimal grass as well. Finally, pace of play was 5.5 hours. We got to know the group in front of us as we met on each tee box. There was nothing about our day that was remotely satisfying. Boulders - you can do much better. It this is the new quality of Scottsdale golf, Palm Springs is the place to go.

Absolutely NOT worth the price!!

WAY overpriced!!! Driving range, chipping green, and putting green were all in sub par condition. On course the layout is challenging and fun but the condition made it almost unacceptable! The greens were rock hard and had lots of diseased grass on them. The greens also had a slick feeling to them when the putter was placednon the turf, very strange.
Lot of chewed up spots on the fairways and the tee boxes were horrendous. The staff from bag drop till cart drop was amazing though. And one last note...smuggle your OWN drinks in!!! Paid $100 for 3 beers and 3 seltzers from the Beer Truck on course!

We played Troon North the day before for 2/3 the price and it was immaculate!!

I would definitely NOT recommend The Boulders to anyone! They wont be seeing us again!

Do not play until greens are fixed

Horrendous greens. Rock hard. Even with a ton of spin, it's not holding up on the green. Grass is dead. No ball marks at all. Ruined the round.

Driving range was mat only. Even if you wanted to hit in front of the mats, it was all dirt. Several holes cart path only.

No food/drink at the turn, only food available on the course was overcooked hot dogs from the cart girl.

Cool boulders that were the backdrop of several holes. Course has potential if Troon dumps money into it.

Greens are gone

Play here a few times a year. Played south course. They completely replaced the greens a couple years ago. Well, they lost them. They’re just painted dead grass. They’re hard so it takes high VERY spinny shots to stop on one. Even those shots leave very little ball mark and if you do fix it, it’s just dirt and crumbles (no root zone). Greens are the most important part of the course yet they’re still charging full rate and don’t say a word about it before ya head out. If you have another option, take it. At least for the rest of this season.

Beautiful desert course

One of the best courses in Scottsdale. Every hole is beautiful. Only negative was the requirement to keep the buggy to the paths because of overseeding 2 weeks before. Some long distance between green & next tee would make walking a bit long.

Boulders North - In town from Colorado

I know my overall rating would suggest that this wasn't a great experience, but in general i still enjoyed myself. I guess i'd say i have a typically high standard/expectation of a golf course that charges $250 for a round of golf in November. The round took 5+ hours, course condition was average, a few spots throughout the course need some love, and to be fair had some staff paying attention to some of them. Greens were furry and had quite a few extra pitch marks that i tried to repair as i went along. Water stations throughout the course were nice. My first carts GPS didn't work so i had to get that switched out, which the staff was super friendly and understanding about. They DO NOT accept GolfNow Gift cards/codes, so DO NOT buy those in hopes that you can use them here, which was a bummer. Bartender was sweet and very helpful with knowledge about the amenities and any question i had on the course. Easy course, pretty straight forward. The obvious defense was the lack of grass variation throughout the course, miss the fairway and you're in trouble. Not much back and forth made each hole feel different. Not much elevation change as to be expected in Arizona. But overall for the money i'd save my $250 and play 3-4 rounds back at home.

Very friendly staff at The Boulders!

The re-seeding had just gotten done, so that made it a little tough, but the greens were even worse. The staff and layout really made up for the greens!
