Type Public/Resort
The Ocotillo Golf Resort sits on 185 acres and features lush contoured fairways that flow gently amid patches of mature trees, vibrant flower beds, pretty waterfalls and numerous lakes. The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses. Two holes stand out on the Gold: No. 5 is a 212-yard par 3 with water running down the entire left side; and No. 9 is a 468-yard par 4 with a carry over water from the tee -- water that dissects the fairway about 50 yards short of the green and water left to the green. Par there is a great score. Ocotillo's Blue Course is a watery grave; water comes into play on eight of the nine holes. It's not overly long but there's so much water the length becomes irrelevant. The best hole may be No. 1, a 590-yard par 5. Big hitters are faced with the classic risk-reward: Do they lay-up on their second shot or try to fly a tributary that splits the fairway about 50 yards short of the green?

Az Lakes Golf

Course is challenging due to water and sand. Course was in good shape with a couple fairways dry and hard, but overall really nice. Staff is very friendly and course amenities are great!

Great value

Great value course and a nice change from desert courses. A real variety with the three nines. Had to pay for range

Balls this year, pretty sure they were included last year. Overall I really enjoy this course.

What a Great Course!

Beautiful course; lots of water to keep the challenge up but also manageable for less skilled golfers. Conditions excellent for overseeding season. Blue course was excellent; White course was fairly good but a little behind the blue; we did not play the Gold 9.

We will definitely come back here - and the price was also terrific! Don’t miss this course when visiting Scottsdale-Phoenix area.

very nice course

The course is very nice and in great shape. Pace of play was a little slow(4 1/2 hours). Also we were told it was 90 degree rule, but there were a number of holes that were roped off and we had to walk from the cart path.

One my Favorite

Ocotillo used to be one of my favorite courses. Seemed to have taken a step back last few years. I played in a summer league for a a bunch of summers. . Watched it slowly trend downward. With the Mickelson group taking over and the overseed complete, it seems to be regaining some of its luster. This is the second week in a row I’ve been out. All three courses are now open with the white being the last and cart path only. My only negative was over the summer they shut down all three nines to do from what I understand was some irrigation and drainage overhaul. Wish they would have used that down time to fix some of the teeboxes. There’s a few that are crowned and almost impossible to get a good stance on your tee shot. But overall the course is in beautiful shape out of the overseed and well worth the $40

We were supposed to play the blue / gold but got stuck with blue / white because a large group of club rental players showed up late and backed up the course from the start.

The blue Course was great the white course, not so great - it just opened from overseeding and was a huge disappointment, but we knew that when we were given the option of a 5 hour round behind the hackers or a 4 hour round on the blue / white course combo.

We also missed the golf board rentals they had last year. They were fun.

Put this on your bucket list

I'm a local and usually take advantage of one of many summer golf passes (We Ko Pah, Troon, etc) and have played many really nice golf courses across Phoenix and Scottsdale. Ocotillo is one of those courses you want to play as the layout is challenging yet fair with water in-play on many of the 3 nine-hole courses (Blue, Gold, and White). The course was in perfect shape, the greens were rolling pure and the tee-boxes were nearly perfect. Put this course on your bucket list, you won't be disappointed.

As usual, a great course.

Great "after overseed" conditions. Will only get better with time but in great condition already.

Blue lagoon

Played the Gold-White courses. I think there must be "blue lagoons" on over half the holes. Lateral hazards and forces carries everywhere. Loved the course design. Overseeding was in progress, cart path only on the Gold, but normal on the white. Enjoyed the perfect day and the fun round. I'll be back!
