Ocotillo Golf Club - Gold/Blue
About
The Ocotillo Golf Resort sits on 185 acres and features lush contoured fairways that flow gently amid patches of mature trees, vibrant flower beds, pretty waterfalls and numerous lakes.
The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the
hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses.
Two holes stand out on the Gold: No. 5 is a 212-yard par 3 with water running down the entire left side; and No. 9 is a 468-yard par 4 with a carry over water from the tee -- water that dissects the fairway about 50 yards short of the green and water left to the green. Par there is a great score.
Ocotillo's Blue Course is a watery grave; water comes into play on eight of the nine holes. It's not overly long but there's so much water the length becomes irrelevant. The best hole may be No. 1, a 590-yard par 5. Big hitters are faced with the classic risk-reward: Do they lay-up on their second shot or try to fly a tributary that splits the fairway about 50 yards short of the green?

Overpriced
Great course, but definitely the most overpriced course that I have ever played. Would recommend spending your money elsewhere for $200/round
Fast greens awful bunkers
Greens are lightening running 11-12 on stemp but they forgot to take the bunkers .saying they are going to get redone doesn’t mean you don’t have to take what you have.
We appreciate this kind of feedback. Thank you for taking the time to review us. Have a wonderful day!
Tough greens to putt
Need a GPS on the carts to many blind shots or layup tee shots
Really glad you had a positive experience. Thanks for reviewing. Have a great day!

Tough track. Slowwwwww.
Ocotillo is not your desert target course. Tons of forced carries and water.
Plenty of tourist trade and those "frozen from the winter swings" and all the water make for a very slow round. We just made it in in just less than 5 hours.
Bunkers are in tough shape as it's been rainy and, of course, few visitors bother raking.
This would be a great Country Club. Experienced golfers who know the course would make the course move well.
For a daily fee course, I would rate it in the lower tier due to the length of their rounds.
Food in the grill was adequate. Patio is relaxing and scenic.
Don't get me wrong, it's a nice venue with some nice holes, but I have 14 courses I would play before Ocotillo.
Terry, Thank you for your review and so glad you had a chance to play Ocotillo Golf Club. Hope to see you next time!

Give it a try!
I've played this track twice in the past 2 winters. Both times, it was enjoyable.
Greens are fantastic, challenging, undulating, and fast. Only issue, lots of ball marks not repaired. I'm noticing that is a theme down here. Seems like courses don't really care about patrolling that, and if they did, many of these courses would have some of the best greens I've ever played.
Suggestion, use a GPS based app to review your tee shots and even approach shots. Helpful in hitting to correct areas.
Overall, our group loved the course. Challenging and fun.
Thank you for your review, we will see if we can't get some of those ball marks taken care of.
Geese
This course is full of birds and bird dropping are everywhere! They need to get a dog who follows staff around the course and chases these things away. Excellent course and I would only play it again once they solved their bird problem. I would suggest no one play this until they have resolved this issue!
Brian, thank you for your review. Unfortunately, we have tried two dogs in the past. With seven miles of shoreline the waterfowl just find another location on property to fly to. We use lasers to annoy the geese and swan decoys to help prevent some of the waterfowl from getting onto the greens. We will keep trying.
Oversold and Poor Course Management
Ocotillo used to be well managed course with great pace of play. Unfortunately they are only focused on flooding the course with golfers and do not care about the player experience. I’d avoid any tee time after 11am if you want to finish with the sun still up. Horrible.
We're sorry for your negative experience with pace of play at our property, our management team will be reaching out to you via email.
No More
I’m done playing here. First off…..the pace of play is SLOOOOW!!!!!!! Come on guys…..get a marshal out there to enforce the pace of play. It was ridiculous. Waiting 10+ minutes to tee off on EVERY tee box. Terrible. Took 6 hours to play 18. Also…..goose feces everywhere. GROSS. There are thousands of geese on this course because of the endless water. The geese ruin the experience and they crap everywhere. It is disgusting. Finally, super overpriced for what it is. I’m done with this place. So many better options out there.
Terrible Pace
The pace of play was absolutely atrocious. The staff was unfriendly and there was no Ranger to enforce pace. After every shot we were waiting 15-20 minutes. We got the the turn and two foursomes were inserted in front of us. We waited 45 minutes to start the back nine. They are clearly trying to increase revenue without any consideration for the experience of the golfer. Will not be going back.
Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. Very sorry your experience wasn’t what you’d hoped. Your feedback has been relayed to our team.
Thanks for the rating. If there are any details you’d like to share about what we are doing well, we’d love to learn more!

Hi Isaac, thanks so much for rating us. We’d love to know what made your experience great!
Better
This place reminds me of playing in the Midwest. Different than most desert courses here in Az. Lots of water. Just hit your targets. Only a couple of places that hazards are not obvious. If anyone in your group has played it a couple of times they can tell you where to avoid. Tee boxes and fairways in great condition. Traps could be better with a little grooming, but there is sand in them, just a little heavy after then rains earlier in the week. Greens were good. Look at your line and maybe fix a divot or two that previous players left. Used to love this place when it was run by Troon. Mickelson's group really let it go down hill. Forgot the group that owns it now, but thank you for bringing this back to a good place to play!
That is wonderful to hear. Thanks so much for leaving us a review. Have a great day!
We’re thrilled to see you had a positive experience. Care to share any details?
We appreciate you coming out and playing. Try us again in the spring or fall when the rates may look more friendly for you.
