Sidewinder at Gold Canyon Golf Resort
About
The Sidewinder at Gold Canyon Golf Resort slithers about the base of Dinosaur Mountain among arroyos and dry creeks. Indigenous cacti like cholla and prickly pear and trees like mesquite and palo verde feature along the testing curves that require top play.
A round on the Sidewinder at Gold Canyon Golf Resort begins on the 487-yard par-5 first. It's one of four par-5s, with the others measuring over 500 yards from the gold tees; the second of these is the 523-yard sixth. The last is the 505-yard 18th, a tough way to finish, requiring a drive up the middle of the fairway, between two washes, to hit the green in two.
The reward after a round on the Sidewinder at Gold Canyon Golf Resort sits in The Bar & Grill, simply named and recently redone in marble and slate, but not in such a way to remove its casual ninth-hole charm.

Great Scenery
A great course nestled in the Superstitions, overall a short course that plays long and has a variety of challenges along the way. My group will definitely return again, we want to try our luck on the Dinosaur course. Only downside was that there are no water stations along the course and it was hot out.
Snake Bit!
Very nice layout! Didn't play the tips; too old for that nonsense. And because the 3-pars were on the 210 yd + side from the tips. VERY fair course from the black tees though. Enough challenges from there! Especially when the wind kicks up!
Greens were in the 2nd week of healing from their recent "punching" but they putt fairly true. I liked the dog-leg variations; not a lot of "straight" holes; makes for thinking out the next shot.
Very nice clubhouse and Vanessa (the Bartender) was exceptionally nice! She made hanging out for a couple of pops pleasant!
Will be back! Gotta try the Dinosaur!
Front nine has some elevation changes, back nine is more technical.
The fairways and tee boxes were excellent. The greens were hard with some type of problem. Not consistent grass. Speed was excellent and the roll was fine. Bunkers were average at best. Still, for summer conditions in the desert, to play a nice course like this for essentially $40 was a great deal. (And range balls were free, too. Nice restaurant deal - 50% off all menu items.)
Very nice course
Good value. Excellent shape. Great views. Enjoyed the round, will definitely play again.
Great Day in Gold Canyon
Greens where quicker than I remember. Great morning to be out too play.
Gold Canyon Sidewinder
Nice condition and fairly challenging
I played the Whites but next time will play the blues. I'm not a long ball hitter but found the whites left me with shorter ten usual shots into the greens Also found par threes to be very short
Nice overall good time and I will be back
Sidewinder Fun
Nice course - seems easy but if you get too relaxed it will "bite". The course was in good condition considering they will be overseeding next week. The sand traps need some work and the greens were still a little rough from aerating a few weeks ago but who can complain about a 3 1/2 hour round on a nice course in the foothills of the Superstition. Life is good in the East Valley!
Maintenance surrounding you on every hole. Staff unfriendly
Beautiful location. Fabulous design. I dont think whoever runs facility plays golf. Practice range you hit off of mats, practice putting greens dont have holes. Even the worst muni has those basic features. Maintenance was like a swarm of bees on every shot they were mowing or idleing nearby. Course conditions are average bald spots everywhere. Staff unfriendly they seem to rest on laurels but dont compare to Wildfire or Whirlwind etc.
Best course I've played all year
What an easy ride out to the course never any traffic on the 60. With two courses to choose from and great stay and play specials this facility was enjoyable. The course was in the best shape of any course I've played though out the valley all year. I can't wait to come back!
AWESOME
Nicest course ive played all year!! Played kierland, lookout mt, Phoenician ect will return!
Good solid challenge
Course was in great shape. Lots of groundskeepers out on the course keeping it that way. No water on course, so bring fluids. There was a cart person. Greens are a little small, so practice your iron shots.
Good variety of "looks" as you approach each green.
nice course
We had played this course during last year vacations and liked it so for great summer price we did again and worth the experience, yes maybe the Dinasaur its more challenging , good condition for this time of the year , greens were rolling good as well
A fun and easy course
Played this course over the weekend and enjoyed a good day as the course was in solid shape and the pace of play was fair. This course is a great course for golfers who struggle with driver as most of the holes require an iron off the tee. If you play the course properly you can enjoy one of your better scores for the year. If you try and overpower it, the course can eat you up. Definitely a risk reward type of course. Great for tournament play or a fun skins game.
Very beautiful course
Th course is in very good shape for July but this is an easy cousrse. Perfect for beginners or to play your best round this year !
beautiful course
The course was in excellent condition except for the greens which had just been punched 2 weeks ago. it should be awesome in about 3 weeks. Always one of my favorite courses
The course was beautiful.
The course was beautiful as advertised. A lot of courses promote the scenic beauty of their course but this one lives up to the billing. The only complaint I had was the condition of the greens. They had recently been aerated and could have used more sand to fill in the holes.
Sidewinder 6-22-14
Great course with scenic panoramic views of the Superstition Mountains. Greens were soft and in good shape.
Worth the trip
Some may consider the drive outside of Phoenix Metro area a little far, but the course is well worth the trip. A challenging course for any golfer at any level. Strategic placement of bunkers, elevation changes, are challenging enough. To try and focus on the game rather than enjoying the scenic surroundings of the Superstition Mountains is another.
Nice course
I could have played from the tips as the course was not that long but glad I didn't as the holes against the stiff wind were difficult to reach. Holes were imaginative and kept my interest. Greens were fast and true. Enjoyed.
Sidewinder fun
The Gold Canyon resort is well worth the drive from the east valley. The course is not in prestine condition, but the fairways and greens are in great shape for the summer. You can definitely tell they take pride in the conditions. The course is challenging and pace of play was good in the afternoon.
