Rating 73.0

Golf Club of Estrella is the very first golf course on a daily-fee basis to be designed by Jack Nicklaus II in Phoenix, where it makes its home in the master-planned community Estrella, and offers 18 holes of par-72 championship golf over 7,102 unique yards. The many tests of the golf course will impress every level of golfer - though a choice of tee sets ensures no one will get in over his or her head. Desert and wash spaces require golfers to vary their shots while they take in vistas from the fairways shaped to the contour of the land and framed in the Sierra Estrella Mountains.

A round of golf at the Golf Club Estrella kicks off on Morning Star, a par 4 that measures 359 yards from the black tees. If you stick to the black tees, you'll need to conserve your energy for The Arroyo, the 16th hole, a par 5 that measures 605 yards. After that, Evening Star, the 18th hole, will be a relative breeze, at par 4 and just 437 yards from the black teees.

Once the round of golf at the Golf Club of Estrella is over, head back to the Player's Grill Restaurant for American pub fare and Southwestern snacks.

Nice setup

Greens were dormant grass. Rolled smooth but inconsistent speed. Fairways were excellent along with tee boxes.

Excellent course experience

Just played Golf Club at Estrella. Really nice layout. Fairways lush green and rough gold of dormant Bermuda. Greens in great shape and fast.
Great value. A bit off the beaten part - about 35 minutes from Phoenix airport. Definitely worth the drive!!

Disappointing

Website pictures do not accurately depict the course. Bunkers in poor condition, hard-packed without much sand and many small rocks. Greens have multiple spike marks and multiple varieties of grass. Pace of play greater than five hours, never saw marshall. We made this reservation based on website description and pictures as part of a golf trip. Definitely the low-light of our trip.

Course Gets Props

I have reviewed this course previously, so I thought I would share the views of three midwesterners whom I played with--two men and one woman, whom were playing the course for the first time. All were very impressed with the condition of the fairways and greens, all much enjoyed the layout of the course, and all felt they would be returning to the play the course on future visits to the Valley. The only disappointment came from one whom wanted to see the F35s from Luke fly over.

Course was in the usual great shape except for the 15th green had big pot holes on it.

Inside staff a bit rude, not helpful, outside guy that gets the tee times organized very helpful. The inside guys didn’t have a clue what was going on, all three of them, was screwing up the outside guy that was organized trying to arrange all the tee times.

Nice Course

The course was in great condition except for the bunkers , the only reason I did not rate the condition as excellent. They weren’t bad but a few rocks and in need of sand in a few areas ( was only in 3 green side bunkers - no fairway bunkers)

Greens rolled true and at a good pace

Played in 3 :35 minutes - threesome , had a couple of foursomes ahead of us

The staff is friendly and on top of things
Starter did a great job as did bag drop

Fairways and tee boxes - fairways 9 of 10 tee boxes 8 of 10

Layout - plenty of room to hit the ball ( played gold tees 6700 yards )and it was a fair test

Par 3s on back 9 good test

Had a good time
Have played here each of the last 4 years ( once each year ) and will come back

Nice range and chipping area

We played here for the first time, and it will not be the last. The conditions were perfect, the fairways were unbelievable and 72 degree weather. The staff is real friendly and helpful. If you are in the area do not miss this course.

Desert golf

Great course and layout, greens were expectantly tough. A couple of drainage issues in fairways and sand traps, but otherwise a good experience. Not as picturesque as I was lead to believe from the photos, but the 17th and 18th are quite nice.

Very challenging

Even from the forward tees you have your work cut out for you. The desert is out to get you. Be accurate and all is good. Beautiful desert scenery, many elevated tee boxes, uphill greens. Course is in great shape.

Great Course

Friendly staff, greeted by name on arrival (course was not busy). Check-in was easy and fast. Starter asked if we had played their before and reminded us of pin position for the day.

Only compliant, for the price, I would expect the cart to have a GPS.

Consistent golf experience

Always an enjoyable round. The course was in good shape with over seeded fairways and tees, a turning dormant rough and fast Bermuda greens that arent over seeded but painted a shade of green- this makes for faster conditions than most in Arizona all winter long. The grain is very strong on the greens however so this is something that is crucial to pay attention to. Layout is great and holes 16-18 can plays as tough as any courses finishing holes, particularly the uphill par 5 16th hole that always seems to go on forever and where par is always a good score. The staff has improved over the past couple of season and most encounters are now friendly and helpful. One area to improve upon can be an inconsistent beverage cart schedule. At times they seem to be absent during the afternoon. Pace of play is great in the early mornings but can get slow later in the day. Highly recommended to anyone in the West valley and looking for a great value on a 36 hole day where the VIP package includes all day golf, a dozen ProV1s and lunch for One reasonable Price.
