Great round
Best place in town. Greens fairways, staff. All top notch. That Sheriff he was the highlight of my day.
Excellent place to play
Public tee times do not often become available, course is in very good condition & pace of play better than most local courses
Not for the beginner, or intermediate player
This course is not really for a beginner, or intermediate golfer. This course is more suited to the low handicap player that is maniacally serious about their game of golf. This course strictly enforces their 4 hour limit for a round of golf. Our group game upon the course Marshall on 3 separate occasions. The first occasion was after the 3rd hole when he admonished our group for not keeping the pace of play with the group in front. Our round was a total of 4.07 hrs. The foresome behind our group were breathing down our necks the entire day keeping the pressure on to move the game along. Additionally, there wasn't a cart girl to be seen anywhere around the course! This tells one all they need to know about how seriously the game of golf is taken at The Highlands. One player in our group stopped playing after the 11th hole because he felt that he was slowing the group, and pace of play down too much. There was no time to even take a glance for an errant ball with the group behind right on our heels. The experience was harried, and stressful. Not exactly the reason people go out and play a round of golf. This was mine, and my playing partner's first, and last experience playing a round of golf at The Highlands. The Golf Course At Dove Mountain is just as challenging, and as difficult, but the experience is much more relaxed, and enjoyable.
Great Condition
Tee boxes were decent, fairways, greens & bunkers all in excellent condition. Kudos to the ground crew. Always a pleasure playing this course.
Course in great shape, pace of play was good. Will play again for sure
For a mere $50, you can play croquet on the SLOWEST greens around.
For late summer, $50 for super slow greens combined with uncut fairways and rough is ridiculous.
Decent value
Course was in good shape. Greens were a little slow compared to the practice greens. Like the multiple tee boxes.
Great and green
The course was in great shape. The course sucked in the 4-5 inches of rain Mother Nature recently supplied. Greens were a little quick, but manageable. Staff was great. The golf cart was sluggish, maybe need new batteries ?
Fantastic Marana Course
After only one round, this course is already among my favorites. All the surfaces - tee boxes, fairways and greens - are very well maintained; the fairways are nicely contoured; the sand traps, desert scrub and water on a couple holes present some good challenges; and there are great views of downtown Tucson and the surrounding Tortolita Mountains. Highly recommended.
Money Well Spent
The fairways were excellent, sand traps well-maintained (very good by Tucson standards) and greens very good.
Signage on the course was at times unclear.
Much importance is placed, by starters and in printed material, on playing the proper tees. But the tees were not easy to distinguish based on their markings. The reason for marking the tee boxes by the shape of a desert creature on a small piece of stone, sometimes in the shadow of another ornament, escaped me. I don't doubt this is not a problem for members, but for the rest of the human population it is an unnecessary nuisance.
