Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed Las Sendas Golf Club's course, opened in 1995 and among the toughest U.S. courses. Two Zagat surveys have ranked it among the top 50 U.S. golf courses.

Las Sendas Golf Club offers a desert course demanding top play as it takes golfers through the Usery Mountains, with a vista of Phoenix as the tradeoff for managing rough land close to 1,800 feet above the desert. Jones didn't create a course with whimsical decorations like railroad ties, and he didn't build targets. The golf course is for those who strategize, mapping the way from tee to green.

After a round at Las Sendas Golf Club, head to Las Sendas Grille, for the full bar, including wines from California, Australia and Europe, as well as four tap beers and domestic and imported bottles.

not as difficult as they say

let me say that this course isn't as difficult as some ratings suggest. Thats not a bad thing at all, but I almost didn't play this course because I hadn't picked up a club in 5 months and read about it being the most difficult public course in the area. Thats not to say it isn't challenging especially for someone who hasn't played it before because there are some blind shots and aim points that you know only by playing. We played the front 9 with a pro and on the second par 5 he was telling me to aim at a cactus that was by a chimney and it looked like I was hitting into the middle of the desert, but I played the line and hit my target and cut about 75 yards off the hole. There were a few challenging holes, but nothing that couldn't be negotiated by an average player.

during our recent trip we played southern dunes, estrella, victory, quintero, sunridge canyon and las sendas. Quintero and sunridge were a little more visually pleasing with its surroundings, but this course has some really nice views, I would rate it near the top for condition, just below Quintero and about even with verrado (sunridge and estrella were at the bottom for condition as the rough didn't exist and was matted down to essentially be dirt like, though it wasn't like they were bad courses).

The only downfalll was that they do have a lot of members/community golfers and the pace of play was just average (16 holes in about 4 hours) and we had to wait a little on quite a few shots on the front 9 (also on back 9, but we were a 2some, so expected).

Great and Bad

First impressions pulling up to course. Great facilities and very well taken care of. Easy direction signs for buildings and pro shop. Entering the pro shop to sign in with a very friendly Hello and Welcome with a smile was well appreciated by our group, and it carried over to the ease of great directions on facilities, range, carts. Range and putting greens in good shape made it easy to warm up for an exciting round that awaited. Then the Starter called for tee off, started friendly, then started to bark out orders and tough to listen to as talking faster.
Tee’d off on a beautiful hole to start, and we’re thinking of a great round awaiting us. The course has stunning views and a great layout to challenge our skills, very peaceful. Then it took a turn. That’s when the range cowboys on their wheeled horses started to show up barking out to pick up the pace. We did not fall behind, looked for some balls, but at no time holding anybody up. Started to get “Old” and really taking the enjoyment out of golfing to be rushed like that, the extra stress accounted for extra strokes on holes. We paid way too much to have the enjoyment of a great golf outing ruined like that. In the end, we couldn’t wait to be done from all the Rude Complaining to get out of cart, hit the ball and go. They acted like it was my fault the club overbooks golfers like cattle just to quickly send them through the gates. That’s where my low rating comes from, thanks range cowboys for a bad day on a great course.

More Unhappy than Happy

We felt the 18 hole with cart price was higher than it should have been given the conditions. The pace of play was real slow due to members in front of us taking their sweet time because they are "MEMBERS". The restaurant was good and had good service but we never saw a beverage cart during the entire 18 holes. This course needs GPS on the golf carts considering the cost. We probably won't be back.

Only complaint is condition of the bunkers. The sand is watered on a regular basis and dries into a hard and firm surface. The club bounces and poor sand shots are typical no matter the skill level of the player. Course is incredibly scenic.

Very nice course but needs better player organization

Course in very nice condition, great views and interesting/
Challenging layout. Main problem is no starter when I played in afternoon. Just had to guess when to go and other golfers with later tee times go early. Course is semi private. When I made turn, all of a sudden long waits as golfers now in front waiting on 10. Seems like members might just go off back and jump in front of golfer finishing front 9.

No assistance at bag drop. Only time you’ll see cart staff is sitting on 18 waiting for you to go putt to do a quick wipe and hand out for tip. Then no help again to pickup clubs. Went ahead and tipped kid since not his fault, but management should be better.

A bit pricey and not for the average golfer

When I say average, you better be a sub 15 handicap and hit the ball to your targets or you will be quite frustrated with this course. But, gorgeous course, great condition, just very hard and not for an average golfer from any tees. We paid $125 each but normal rate was $200. No way I would pay that for this course. It was still fun, challenging, and beautiful. Would I play it again for $75...sure. $125 or more...I don't think so.
