Red Mountain Ranch Country Club
The golf course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club is a beautifully designed layout set against a desert landscape with rock formations, mesquite trees, and cacti. Pete and Perry Dye designed the course, combining both beauty and challenge. This championship course was built on rolling terrain and has large, sharply contoured greens and extensive mounding that is reinforced with railroad ties. There are not only deep sand bunkers but also grass bunkers protecting the greens. There are also four ponds on the course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club, but only three create water hazards that come into play on four holes. A notable hole on the course in which water comes into play is the sixth, a hole that has a peninsula green with water surrounding it along three sides.

Not a great value
upon arrival found only back 9 open to play due to main water line leak on hole 5 front nine. Not much value in paying this much for summer golf in Arizona and not being able to play entire course. Was given what they called a bounce back coupon will charge a 20 fee to play there again if it is before Sept 15. I feel that due to the price they charged to paly in the summer heat and only being able to play half the course that they should have given a complimentary round of golf as a good fait h gesture to show their commitment too a higher level of customer service, especially in these extreme times with the pendemic and all.
coarse is dried out
Greens were rough, fairways dead in many spots, bunkers were terrible. No cart girl for drinks, no water on coarse.
We played the Blue/Gold combo tees. Very challenging. Enjoyed the designs and views. Clubhouse and food very good. I look forward to playing there again.
Bring your "A" Game!
What a treat test of golf!
You better hit it straight!
Will play the combo tees next time as this 65+ old geezer doesn't hit that far anymore.
They punch Monday so glad I was able to play before that.
If you haven't played here yet, yo need to go try it out.
Have fun and may God bless you.
Very challenging course. Definitely a true sonoran desert style course. Course management is a must here or the course will manage you. There is a good reason why this course has a high slope of 144 with a 73.8 rating!
If you think you got great game, this course will most definitely challenge your game. Narrow fairways with lots of hills, a few blind shots with plenty of bunkers and undulating greens will thoroughly test your golf skills.
Greens were nice and fast rolling around 10 or 11. All fairways were green and well kept with hardly any dead or dry spots. Course is long from the championship tees where I played from. Target golf!
No drinking water on the course due to Covid pandemic and no beverage cart. No GPS on the carts.
No PGA tournaments on this course. PGA players do not play on courses with this style of layout as it will make them look average.
Nice course for the price. Every golfer needs to play a course like this to experience a really tough layout and test their game.
Very Nice Desert Course
An interesting and challenging golf course. Lots of variety from hole to hole, and several scenic vistas. Pete Dye did a great job of designing a course that is playable, but at times, demanding. The course is in great shape. It is well worth the value.
Pete Dye Rollercoaster
Course was no walk in the park for the average golfer . Design emphasis is definitely a 150 yd box & approach shot premium wt very few level ground fairways & traps galore .. Course knowledge given by yardage book and starter were extremely helpful. Greens were not easy wt all slopes . I was intrigued wt all the different type of green protectors / hazards used .Played early no food available till after 11am. Would benefit playIng again wt course knowledge gained for sure!
Friendly staff, first time playing this course, but excellent where, what an where from staff. That’s what I’m talking about, I Love this action.
Red Mountain is a good Pete Dye course that is reasonably priced in summers. Bring your lob wedge if your short irons aren't accurate - you will use it!
This course I picked because it was both challenging and it had the scenery of the McDowell Mountains in the background. Loved seeing all the houses around each hole and the swimming pools etc, and a couple of holes had very blue water, with turtles swimming. A great experience for my first time golfing in Arizona, and certainly will be back in the near future to play other courses in the area. I had a terrific time.
Course is fun to play. Takes several times to play the course to learn where to attempt to place your call for the best approach to the greens. The views around the course are beautiful. The bunkers were nice and soft, well maintained. Would recommend.
First Time and It Was Great
First trip around this course and it was awesome. Lost a few shots not knowing what to hit off the tee as some tee shots do not require the driver...placement becomes important. Pace of play was great, didn't have to wait on any hole, which is good on a hot day. Greens were great...lots of breaks and pace of greens was...QUICK!. Very important to pay attention to not getting above the hole if at all possible. Course requires lots of attention to where to hit the ball, but rewards are there if you get it in the proper position. Will definitely be back to play this hidden Gem.
Great course still
Played here after years away and will be back soon. Tee boxes to greens were excellent. Fairways were wet from night watering making a few new hazards, lol. Course knowledge is still a bonus here, when to leave the driver in the bag or when to go up a club on approaches. Play here and often is my suggestion. Played in just over 3 hours even behind slow groups.
Challenging course, especially the greens
Nice course, somewhat challenging from tee to green and then it becomes real challenging. This is a Pete Dye course and the greens are a true Pete Dye masterpiece. Pace of play was great and due to Covid19 you are able to have your own cart if needed which was greatly appreciated. This is a very nice course and worth every penny no matter what rate you get. Enjoy and have fun.
Red Mountain Ranch is a course I golfed frequently 20 years ago. Glad they are now open to the public again. The course was in excellent condition. I enjoyed the greens, fairways and tee boxes. It was a good day, a hot one for sure.
Ready for a Challenge?
Course was in good shape, though starting to show some dry patches as the Phoenix area has started to warm up, and we haven’t had rain for months. That said the greens were excellent.
Speaking of the greens. “Diabolical Dye” was definitely living up to the nick name when he designed this course and the greens. Nearly every green is Elevated. Most are narrow too. They were very firm today so, you absolutely couldn’t miss left or right. I’m better than average hitting flop shots. That was my saving grace. As Today, I was a flopping fool.
You are definitely challenged really to hit quality shots into the greens.
Tough as it can be if you’re not striking your irons well, it’s still a course to enjoy. Great scenic views of the nearby mountains and even all the way into the valley on a couple holes.
