Superstition Springs Golf Club
The East Valley's Superstition Springs Golf Club offers one of Arizona's most testing layouts, measuring over 7,000 yards, with a slope rating of 130. Golf course architect Greg H. Nash designed the course and worked with the landscape already in place to provide the abundant mounding, wide bunkers and good-looking but tough-playing water features.
By the time he had finished with the Superstition Springs Golf Club, Nash had created a golf course that Golfweek called one of America's Best Golf Courses.
After - or before - a round of golf at the Superstition Springs Golf Club, hit up the restaurant for breakfast, lunch or drinks either inside or on the patio, which overlooks the golf course's signature hole, the ninth.

A work in progress
Cart path only never helps a review. No rangers out to enforce the rule. Course was very wet in places. So much so that much of the rough was very long, making finding balls in the rough very difficult at times. Even the fairways were too long in many places. Last 10 holes were much more interesting than the initial 8. No doubt, a worthwhile experience when conditions improve enough to allow carts on the course.
Superstition. Distances hard to guess
Thoroughly enjoyed the day. First time playing the course and found it quite difficult to determine distance from the green or from landmarks. Did not see any 200, 150 or 100 yard markers which would have REALLY helped. Really need a better method of "cart path only" designation. There is absolutely no fun in walking 80 yards from the cart path with 4 clubs because you do not know distance, No carts on the fairway but okay in the first cut areas would have really helped. Would play it again.
Fix pace of play
Packing those tee times in for more revenue. Pace of play was atrocious. Saw a ranger drive by twice, just waved at us as we are 3 groups deep on a par 3. 4 hours and 45 minutes to play, it’s just inexcusable.
Don't do it! Go ANYWHERE ELSE!
There isn't a single yard marker anywhere on the course. Not at 150, not at 100, not a stick or marker in sight. There also is not a single grain of sand. Not in any of their fifty "sand" traps! The tee boxes are like pasture-land! Some of the bunkers literally have giant clumps of grass growing in them, and they're either hard as asphalt, or full of water! Save your money. This used to be a nice course. Now it's a dog track! (Apologies to dog tracks!)
Like a ghost town
This course must me cutting back on EVERYTHING. I saw one person, the gal in the golf shop. Nobody else. They were prepping for overseeing but heavy thick grass clippings were everywhere which impacted playability. No notice about course conditions was provided when I booked the tee times. The course doesn’t even provide scorecards, you have to download a copy on your cell phone.
112 degree round
This course was in good shape for the weather we're having at this time.
My only complaint was the greens were really slower than normal at this course. I forgot , I have 2 complaints, the bunkers were terrible. I don't think they've been groomed all summer.
For the price I paid, it was still a great course. I like the layout.
Course in serious decline
I have played this course 15-20 times the past 10 years. It used to be a treat. It now appears as if no one (owners, maintenance staff) cares about it. Keeping a long story short....I paid $19 for a deal time. If I had paid a penny more I would have been irate. Zero upkeep, trash around all the near empty lakes, huge globs of goose poop on and around greens, weeds over growing everything.... This course is now a NINETEEN DOLLAR COURSE. So sad.....
Course played tough, greens excellent. Tee boxes needed some landscaping. Many traps had water pooling in them.. No golf beverage cart or snacks, this should be improved.
Amazing what a little Mother Nature can do
This past week monsoons has greatly improved the course conditions. Greens were great and fairways have had much improvement over two weeks ago. The course management may have even taken some criticisms from these reviews to improve the sand traps and clean the trash up around the lakes. The lakes are filled by rain run off and with that run off comes lots of trash from careless people. This course is an excellent lay out and challenges the average golfer. Also spotted a bald eagle on the fairway while playing, but I didn’t shot any eagles today.
Very challenging layout!
For 11 dollars with Hot Deals and considering some bad reviews, was not expecting a whole lot from the course. True, the course is lacking some up keep and the many sand traps around the course are in bad condition but the lay-out in my mind is one of the toughest I have played. Many visually tough driving holes especially considering it being my first time. Most approach shots are not a walk in the park either. Greens were rounding into shape and the rough was tough. The course kicked my butt and looking forward to my next time playing it to get to know the course a little bit more. For 11 dollars it will probably be today.
