Painted Mountain Golf Club
About
The Painted Mountain Golf Club is a challenging desert-style course with a variety of different tees to accommodate every age group and skill level. The course offers a lengthier challenge from the first hole, a par-5 dogleg right, to the last, which requires an approach shot over water in order to reach the green. The Painted Mountain Golf Club, in addition to the course, is also home to the John Jacob's Golf School.

Not worth the $$$
Played it ✔️, for the same price there are at least 20 courses better. Greens in great shape, fairways are narrow but made narrower by lots of dirt, sand and rocks where I would expect grass. Pace of play was slow today (5:15) but heard from others that is not “normal”.
Divots, dirt, and scruffy tee boxes
The club house and restaurant are ok, but the golf course is struggling. There is no driving range. You can chip and putt, but there is no place to warm up hitting full swing. The tee boxes are full of divots, scruffy grass, and dirt. And please know this is reflected in the price. We played on Saturday, Feb 3 for $100 per person, the week before The Waste Management Open, a bargain for this time of year. The course is short, and at times challenging, especially the first hole. The pace of play was good. We started at 7:30am and completed our round in 4 hours. If they could fix the tee boxes and add a driving range, they could charge $100 more per round.
Not in good condition
Painted mountain is what I consider my home course. I've played the course over three hundred times. Paid $81 to play today which was the most I've ever paid here. Course was in such poor condition. Fairways were bare. Green in terrible shape and grounds keeper put in every hole poorly .I've seen this course in much better condition and shape. And for the price that's being charged it needs to get back to that condition.
Painted Mountain
Not a 100 dollar course. Fairways were spotty. The greens were good. Short course, relatively easy. Friendly people working there. A 5 hour round with poor course conditions simply isn’t worth that green fee. I suppose supply and demand dictates the price.
Odd layout very close to residences. Not very challanging greens
Odd course layout. Sandwiched between residences. Short. Greens were good. Probably several other courses in the area to play before considering Painted Mountain
Fun
Fun course. Thought it was in pretty good shape and definitely has a lot of scoring opportunities as it’s not the longest but a lot of cool holes. Group of 4 slow women held us up and couldn’t finish last 2 holes but I’d play it again.
Space Tee Times Properly
Well kept course, amazing staff…terrible pace of play…multiple instances with FOUR groups on one hole…obviously overselling tee times and overpopulating the course makes for a miserable overall experience. Unable to finish 18 holes with a 2:20 team time. Miserable.
Fair but redo
The golf course looks pretty fair after just closing for to overseed. My thought would to go over the course with the overseed equipment and dazzle some areas with more seeding.
Recommend.
Some surprise hazards for first timers
If you’ve never played this course you may be surprised at walking up tour ball and discovering a water hazard just a few feet away—- if you’re lucky. The water hazards are practically invisible from the tee box. Once you get familiar with them, of course your decision to lay up or go for it becomes much more data driven.
On the whole the course is fairly challenging for all but the very best golfers. Even scratch players might find it amusing if not worth the trip for the sheer beauty of it.
The staff was extremely friendly.
The only downside was the adjoining restaurant was closed for renovations, but there is a pretty good Thai bistro just down the street.
All in all, a great way to end our golf vacation.
Winter golf in Arizona
Course grass is the best it's been in years. Played in 3:45 hours.
Ridiculous
1:30 tee time...Took 4 hours to play 11 holes...then got too dark to play...meaning that even if we could have played more, 18 holes would have taken 6 or 7 hours. They shove as many people on the course as possible with no regards to pace of play. Every tee box had 8 to 12 carts waiting to tee off on every hole. Just total greed on their part...jack up the prices double while the winter is here and over crowd the course knowing a round will take 6 hours to play. Then I called to complain about 4 hours for 11 holes and they defended that pace of play and the guy hung up on me. What a bunch of greedy jerks...don't waste your money...it will take all day to play and you will wait 30 minutes at each tee box waiting.
There used to be a range there and an executive 9 but they filled it in with homes or apartments or whatever they built there now. All about the mighty dollar to the course's detriment.
