The course is closed for extensive renovation. Clubhouse has been demolished. Tees and greens will be stripped and rebuilt. Fairways will be killed and sprigged with Celebration. I don’t know the expected reopening date. I’m not local— got all this from researching village board records and the RFP, all of which are on line.
Course being shut down May 1 and staff does not care about you. Discounted price not worth it. Treated horribly by staff Sent people ahead of us at turn with four golf carts and lied to us about reason Starter and proshop not in line. People hitting into you and cutting in front of you. They don't care Greens burnt out, fairways gone to weeds. Birds and ducks out of control. Trucks running on cart path. Not good at all
Its Jack & Its Public
Not your typical Florida muni course. Adjacent housing only pops up on maybe 25% of the holes, and a three hole stretch (holes 5-7) line the inter-coastal. Nothing reminding you more that you are in Florida than the boats waiting right next to the tee box on hole 5 while the draw bridge to cross US HWY 1 opens up. Aside from the surrounding scenery the green complexes on this course are something out of the ordinary. Most are elevated and feature a lot of different ridges and breaks in the greens. Took a while for me to get used to the fact that in S. Florida most putts play pretty straight no matter how sever the break looks, but at N. Palm beach CC they break and they break a lot. Something strange that I noticed before I even teed off was the set of tee boxes offered. The back tees played just over 7k yards at 7079. The next set up played at just over 6300 yards. Although I was able to manage the back tees I thought that was a much too large gap. I think there are a large amount of players that fit somewhere right in the middle of those two yardages at around 6600 yards. Which then allows the player of that skill set and distance to play the course the way the architect meant for it to be played. At the very least a combo of the two tees can easily be offered on the scorecard. Final thought is this is a really great muni course available in an area where public golf is not the standard. To be able to jump on a Jack re-design for a relatively reasonable price (depending on time of year) is something worth playing when in the area.
This was once the absolute go to golf course in the area. I played last Thursday for the first time in over 6-7 years. I was actually shocked at the course conditions. Greens were actually pretty good but brown and bare everywhere else. This truly a fantastic layout with some of the most challenging greens in South Florida but it looks like money is obviously an issue. Locals have said the budgets are simply set too low for the course to operate with in its means. Also, rumor has it Jack wants his name left in the past. Summer rates are ok but I couldn't imagine paying $100 here in the winter. I really hope they turn this place around around because it truly is very unique and a blast to play......
Course is an embarrassing dump
Its criminal what this place charges for what you get. The greens were covered entirely by sand. They didn't discount the rate . See the pictures. They were unplayable. The bunkers are straight dirt. Half the grass on the course is dead because they refuse to spend the money on watering it. The GPS in our cart was frozen the whole time. They also charge $12 for a small bucket of balls which is also criminal. This place should be bulldozed and forgotten. Stay far away.
Solid upscale muni
North Palm Beach Country Club sits about ten minutes from Jack Nicklaus' home, so it made all the sense in the world that the Golden Bear would be the one to renovate it a decade ago. The result is a compact, thoughtful design with a particularly undulating set of greens that can be scary when they get up to speed. Prime season rates reach into triple digits, but some good twilight deals can be found year-round.
Not worth the price
Overpriced considering the course conditions, bunkers were in very poor condition, layout is fun, greens are challenging
This is the third time I've played this golf course and although it's a nice and challenging layout, my last two experiences have been spoiled by an over zealous and obnoxious ranger. On both occasions the ranger kept harassing us to speed up play saying that we had to finish in the stipulated 4 hours and 8 minutes. Whilst I respect they want to keep pace of play moving as not to hold up the field, on both occasions we weren't holding up any groups behind us. In fact this past Saturday when I last played there, the group behind us was an entire hole behind yet the ranger insisted we skip a hole because we were 16 minutes behind. When we told him we were not holding up the field, had a 73 year old in our group who could not move any faster even if he tried, and were playing in a tournament which generally takes longer, he responded that he didn't care, the course policy was 4 hours and 8 minutes not matter what the circumstances. No question this type of attitude flows from the top down so it speaks volumes about the management. What the place needs is to utilize some common sense. If a group is behind the stipulated pace of play and is holding up the field, ok enforce the policy. But if not, why ruin a customers unnecessarily? Make sure your guests know your policy before checking in and taking their money, like posting it on the board for all to see. Also, tell them, ahead of time if they fall behind the stipulated pace of play they'll risk not been able to play the full 18 holes or having the cops come and remove them from the course as was the case this past Saturday when we refused to skip a hole. Who needs this kind of experience when there are so many other choices around.
Great Redesign, Need a walking rate
I am not a big fan of Nicklaus designs but I really enjoyed what he did with NPBCC. Course remains walkable and unique, taking advantage of the ridge that always gave the course it's character. Green speed were a bit inconsistent but overall conditioning was great and pace of play was even better. My only gripe is that they charged full cart price even for walkers. $53 to walk on a Monday afternoon is a good price for the course, but with a mandatory $26.50 cart fee charged even if you walk the course, the $79.50 is a bit steep. Given that this is one of the few walkable designs in the area, it would seem to make a lot of sense to have a walking rate (which they apparently do but refuse to give out as the receipt split the GF into a $53 charge for midday GF and $26.50 for a cart we didn't use) at least on weekdays/afternoons.
Great course for the money
I really enjoyed playing this course. I was by myself and was asked if I would play with a couple by the starter. There is plenty of room to use your driver even if you don't hit it straight every time and still plenty of bunkers, trees, and water in play to keep it interesting. One of the big draws for me is that several holes play along the waterway. One interesting fact that I didn't know until it happened is that your ball doesn't always fall out of the trees here. The greens were smooth and true and the course was very fun to play. I highly recommend this course.
Nice Nicklaus Design
Very wide fairways with unique undulating greens. Plenty of bunkers keep you honest.
Great course. Challenging and fair
Course was in good shape. Played on a Saturday and it was a full tee sheet but finished in 4 1/4 hrs. Course is challenging but fair. Always gives you options. Great Jack Nicklaus course. My wife and I will play it again.
Great value for a Nicklaus designed course. Obviously suffers from a lack of manicuring but the layout is nice and the course challenging but fair. Would definitely come back again for another nice morning of golf.
J'ai passé un moment exceptionnel.en bonne compagnie Sur un des plus beaux terrains de la Floride Avec un service de qualité A revivre
Great S. Florida course. Reminds me of a Nothern links layout.
Greens are large and fast be in position to the flags with your approach-also some false fronts (thanks Jack). My favorite course in Palm Beach.
Golf now not welcomed
Great course. Will test the best putters. Great views. Awesome track. But you are not treated warmly at all as a golf now guest. They let other groups ahead of us because they were full price or members then let us go After our scheduled Time. A foursome of ladies walking went ahead of us and we had to skip a hole to play around. They wouldn't let us play through. Not friendly at all. So be prepared.
North Palm Beach-4/10/15
Golf course in great shape. Always a challenge and a very enjoyable round of golf.
This golf course is excellent in all point, it is beautifull, challenging, fun to play. The greens are difficult and the pins placement also. I have enjoyed my day !
A great muni in the center of West Palm Beach Gardens
I was initially unimpressed with the muni appearance. The course has a very small pro shop and the driving range reeked of "muni." Golfer's attire was fitting for a muni and not a "high end daily fee" course which is what NPB CC really is. The course is terrific. While the facilities are average, the layout, conditions, and challenging holes offer golfers a great test and memorable round. It is slightly more expensive than other options, but entirely worth the cost. It does lack a "country club" or "daily fee" feel as it truly is a municipal course but Nicklaus outdid himself with a unique layout and course. I highly recommend this course. It should be rated 4.5 stars.
best public course
one of the top public course of the palm beach area a little bit expensive for a public golf course overall I had a great round of golf it is a good challenge of golf you can alway's play without reservation I will go back any time, when i am in the region
