Nice layout but rough conditions
Played two days after torrential rain from Rosa, but water damage aside, the course was not in great shape. Tee boxes almost completely browned. Greens were very slow. Layout is good, not great. It’s not really a “forest” track per se, sort of forced.
Sand traps were not very good. otherwise the course was great
Best Value in Phx
Called at 12 noon Sunday Sept 2 and said course was wide open. We got off at 3:07pm for $27. I have lived in the Scottsdale area for 20 years. I will say the condition of this course was beyond phenomenal and the greens rolled better than any course I have played at this time of year. If you live in Phoenix and haven't played Raven, you have missed a great value during the late summer months.
It’s a super course with great value during the summer months. The course is in great shape for this time of year and the staff is always very friendly. The pace of play was a little bit slow on the backside but that also had to do with three twosomes playing behind two or three foursomes.
Course was in good shape for the Summer months in Phoenix.
This course is usually in great shape. The course was a little wet when we played it, taking some distance away from your drives. This is a fun and challenging course. I try to play here a few times each Summer.
Way too slow
We totally understand when the weather is nice a 4.5-5 hour round on a Saturday can be expected. Today it was over 110 and the course moved so slow. No Marshall's were seen all day to keep the pace of play moving. The front nine took a little over 2 hours, but the back was super slow. Waits of 15-20 minutes on almost all shots. Sometimes more. We played 8 holes on the back in about 2hrs and 30 minutes. Gave up after 17. Terrible pace of play for this time of year. Not sure we will return. Course was in decent shape for this time of year and the staff was great. Cart girl even mentioned that someone should be moving the slow groups along.
Raven Soars Over Competition
My first visit to this course...certainly not my last. The layout is fun, fair and challenging. Do not pass on playing this course. The conditions were far superior to other courses is the valley. This has been a difficult year for summer transition and the Raven greenskeepers have figured out a solution.
Course had a much different feel to it then other valley courses. Conditions were good despite the aerated greens. Definitely recommend!
Greens had just been punched
I thought that may have been the case with the $25 Saturday morning starting time. Sure enough, punched on Wednesday. Still a great experience with my son though.
Very interesting and challenging course
Greens were just aerated and Sandy. Fairways were in great shape. Pace of play was good, 4 hours.
I think one of the best courses in the valley
When you consider that this course is just a few minutes south of downtown, this course is amazing. We played on a Friday afternoon and, although it was hot, had a great round. Tee boxes and fairways were in great shape. They had just aerated the greens, but they put a layer of sand on to help keep ball true. Just had to hit it a little harder than usual. Pace of play was great.
Fairways are in great condition.... the greens thick layer of sand... skip putting
just wish i new they just arrated greens
upset that greens were terrible because they were arrated and tons of sand.
I like this course and I understand aerating the course and greens but there is no reason to send people out when you can't even see grass on the greens. Played the back 9 twice and 0 point to hitting putts, nice course when it's nice but yeah waste of money to play a course you can't putt on.
Fairways outstanding, Greens under aeration
Didn't know until I arrived at the course that all greens under aeration and would have to play the back nine twice. Something on the website would have been nice. Still, all staff very helpful, and the fairways and bunkers were in outstanding condition. We're playing again Saturday and was told all 18 will be open. Hopefully the two inches of sand will have settled somewhat by then. Even so, for the price, take advantage of the cooler Monsoon weather while you can.
Greens were sandy.
This was my first time playing The Raven and was really looking forward to it. When we checked in the told us the greens had been aerified and we would have to play the back nine twice, The greens were covered with sand. If had known this was going to be the condition I would have played some where else.
More of a Park style layout
Very nice facility and pace was good for a Saturday morning.
If you are looking for an AZ desert course with Cactus and mountains this isn't the course to play
Mountains in the background on several holes but plays more like a traditional park course.
That said, condition is very nice and layout was great. Nothing gimicky about the holes. What you see is what you get. Challenging but fair for 1st visit
