Mediocre but not terrible
The axiom that you get what you pay for definitely applies to Phoenix golf. This is one of the cheaper courses we’ve found, and while not terrible it’s definitely among the area’s low tier courses. Tee box grass was long, fairways were OK to hit off of, greens rolled OK speed wise but were very bumpy. WAY too many weeds around the green complexes and in what little rough there was - most rough was hard pan dirt or rock. Sand traps were mostly dirt. Carts paths are terrible!
We knew going in, from the reviews we read and the price we paid that the course would be rough around the edges, but it actually wasn’t as bad as we feared it might be. Perfectly serviceable for a cheap round with friends when the main.goal was to get out for a social outing.
Average
We come here just to get some swings in. We know the course is a little run down. It has a nice driving range, putting green and chipping green with sand trap.
The course needs a lot of manicuring. Fairway are mostly Wild weeds and bare spots Greens are like dried up browned dead .
Never coming back
Not only was the guy at the check in counter unfriendly and rude, the course in general is neglected, and the golf cart path was like a test track for an off-road 4x4. Also worth mentioning, they didn't have balls for the driving range. Lastly, if you book online, forget adding notes since they'll never seen them. At least they paired us up with some nice people,
What Happened to PV?
I've been playing this course for over 34 years. I've never seen it in so total a state of disrepair. The paths have deteriorated to such an extent that they are unsafe. The fairways are weed infested, bee hives in the middle of the fairway on 10, and the entire course badly overgrown (lose a ball in the middle of the fairway!) or no grass at all just packed dirt. There was no cart service or cafe for hot food. The course was overbooked (people waiting for golf carts). This used to be a well-used, but well maintained public course - what happened?
Okay Course
This is an executive course wasn't in the best shape but that may be due to all the rain that came through. Fairways were fine but the greens were not great. Staff was very friendly
PVAgain
Fairways are overgrown and not in good condition. They are roped off for some odd reason. Certainly not to save the grass. Greens are hard and fast. Dyed to make them look green. Way too many Canadian geese messing up the whole course. Really the only thing good is that you can't play an more inexepensive course at the moment.
Fun Course
The course was wet due to rain the night before. The greens have improved the last couple months.
