Arizona Grand Resort
About
The Arizona Grand Resort (formerly known as Phantom Horse Golf Club) boasts a challenging golf course, blending desert target golf with traditional links, playing par-71 over 6,336 yards, and a 7,000-square-foot practice green with a bunker and chipping area for a pre-round tune-up.
After a round at Arizona Grand Resort, head to an onsite drinking or dining spot: there's Mexican food, and then there's Southwestern dancing, and then there's a sports bar so you can catch up with someone else's game indoors or outdoors on the patio.
The Arizona Grand Resort also offers several packages, ranging from stay-and-play to family deals to getaways for women to romantic suite packages, complete with breakfast in bed.

A unique course layout
You need course knowledge to avoid the hazards. A few hidden fairways and water hazards off the tee. You need to know what the fairways do past your visual experience. The course is in great shape. Tricky pins possible. I reccomend a course map if you'd like to break 80. Otherwise, swing away. Enjoy your round. Don't keep score. Get drunk and play loud music like you're the only golfer on course. That's the normal now after Phoenix Open trains them young boys to come get wild.
No food or drinks at turn?
I've never heard of a golf course not having food or drinks at the turn, even when the layout doesn't bring you back by the clubhouse. It wouldn't take much to have a little shack selling basic food and drinks between holes 8-11. Drink cart only had hot dogs, no sandwiches. Also pace of play was terrible and marshal didn't seem to do much about one particularly slow group several holes ahead of us. Lastly, hole 2 had a large area fenced off and under construction but in a blind area when teeing off. If there was any signage, I didn't see it. Lastly, a convention was going on at the same time and the line up to grab a coffee before teeing off was ridiculous.
Nice layout. Good value in PHX
This course was in good shape with a very good design. The second nine was particularly good. It represents a good value for winter golf in Phoenix area.
Specifically, the first 8 holes were tight with good design requiring thoughtful tee shots, not just hitting driver as far as possible.
Greens were recently aerated with small holes but very putt-able. Holes 9-18 were even better with manicured tee boxes and fairways.
Par 3's had a variety of distance with elevation changes. Hole #13 was unique in the world as a par 5 tight off the tee finishing with a 100 yard uphill approach with "church pew" bunkers on the face and 30+ yard long green.
I played the black tees as a 9 handicap and found it playable and challenging. My wife (14 hcp) played the white tees and found it great fun.
Good course!
Enjoyed playing the course. Staff was fantastic and friendly. Layout was a bit odd, weaving in between residential properties in some areas. Some tee boxes were a little rough and lacking full grass. Overall a great round and I would play it again.
Ups and downs.
This has some stunning views and some walking to do even if you have a cart. But it was worth it to me. I'm 70 with a pace maker. I loved this place. It was beautiful and fun to play. But if your too lazy to walk up a few hills to a green stay away. I recommend this place for the charm, beauty and the price.
Pay for 18 not cool to be pulled off course before dark
If going to enforce early closure should not be billing for 18 when course can not be completed in a reasonable time ! Ripping people off if you don’t allow them to at least play till they decide to quit due to darkness ! Course was in good shape , like the layout and cart girl did a great job of getting around for guests ! If your going to play don’t book 18 after 2pm or you will be disappointed with enforcement of early forced quit !
This is an accuracy golf course, not too long, smaller but fair greens.
Thought it was a wide open resort style course as I had not played there before however it was demanding in terms of accuracy. Greens were in good shape as were the bunkers. All in all a good test for all levels. Definitely play it again.
Beautiful Views!
Fairways were plush, very soft! Course is in excellent condition. Starter and ranger were super helpful and friendly. The views on the back nine are especially amazing! Would recommend to anyone
Phoenix #1
My first time visiting Arizona, loved the golf course. Although we resided at the resort, the golf staff was phenomenal. They acknowledged my 60th birthday, and partnered me with another first-timer and we explored the course together. The scenery is breath taking......
Looking forward to taking my Atlanta golf buddies!

only drawback
Due to the fencing off for cart access on so many holes, it made it so much like a cart path only day and was exhausting.
Fun, Picturesque Course, but like many needs a ranger
Fun layout. Back nine very picturesque, weaving through the foothills. 18th tee box is quite elevated and looks out over a huge panorama of the Phoenix valley. Stunning!
Why not a 5 star? Like most courses these days, they don't hire rangers to keep pace of play going. On my last round our threesome whisked through the first 10 holes and then caught the inevitable pack, then twittled our thumbs waiting...and waiting...and waiting on each tee box. Then, about 45 minutes before dark, a message appears on the cart GPS telling golfers to finish the hole they're on and clear the course.
The thought comes, "oh, you won't monitor the course by preventing the slowest golfers in the slowest group from inconveniencing all the rest of the golfers on the course (fear of upsetting the slow golfer by telling them they are a slow golfer) but it's ok to tell all the rest of the golfers that it's too bad that slow golfers prevented them from finishing the round but it's time to clear the course."
This doesn't spoil the course but spoils a portion of the round so...4 stars.
