San Tan Highlands (formerly known as The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch) boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the San Tan Highlands.

Gorgeous course

Course was in great condition, with beautiful views. The width of the fairway and pin locations were just challenging enough to be fun without being too difficult.

This course seems to be in excellent shape, I played it before when it was Johnson Ranch and it was never in as good a shape as it was on 4/29. I will be back in the near future

WE’RE BACK!!!

I’ve lived in the East valley for over 29 years, and Johnson Ranch has been notorious for most of those years for being accommodating to the retired crowd. I’ve experienced rude clubhouse service and starters that send their buddies out ahead of paying customers. I’ve been stalked/harassed by the ranger when playing with my son, when we were not the reason for slow play…
All that to say: this recent round was the first since 2018, for me. I played with my BIL and he brought his daughter—a very well behaved 2.5 yo. Everyone was downright pleasant. The starter was friendly. The pace was great—we were not pushing or being pushed, though things got a little bunched at on hole 11, as it does sometimes. The course was in great shape! I’ll be returning soon!!!
p.s. the rebrand was a good move!!!

San Tan

The practice facilities were good. The cart guy was somewhat irritating. Giving information after the fact of what and where to wait /go. The course and layout were nice and pretty well maintained. Pace of play was bad. Should never be a 5 hour round. One hole on the side of a mountain you had to use a water bottle cap as a tee. Confusing but it works on this par 3. Value is good. Would play again. Definitely recommend this track.

Great back 9

Play this course about 6 times a year. Staff is great.
Back 9 is fun with a lot of elevation. Course was in great shape. Only complaint is no cart girl out in late afternoon at 98 degrees.
