The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch
The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the Golf Club at Johnson Ranch.

Hit your spots
Was fun on Fathers Day and lil breeze as course made you hit your spots!
Hi NoCallaway, thanks for the 4-star review. We're glad to see you enjoyed your round at Johnson Ranch, we hope you'll book another tee time with us soon!
No water on course. This time of year water is a necessity. Zero service for beverages. Person in bar didn't even know I existed. Super bad. Course is fun and challenging.
Hi Ron, thanks for taking time to leave us a review. We have a water machine with cups and ice in the clubhouse and do our best to let players know there is no water on the course, but we apologize for any inconvenience if this wasn't mentioned before your round. We hope to see you again soon!
Varity of holes.
It has elevated tee boxes and flat wholes, Love the course.
Something for all golfers.
Course has an interesting design. The front nine has plenty of elevation and some scenic holes. The back nine is flatter and more traditional. The condition of fairways and greens is good. The only sore spot for me are the sand traps. They are hard packed and void of sufficient sand. Unfortunately this is typical of many Arizona courses.
Changes have been nice
First time I have played in the summer months and was happy to see the course is still in good shape.
I absolutely love the new range ball policy because now there is always good grass to warm up on... Thank you whoever came up with that idea.
I am guessing it’s due to costs, but it would be nice to have a prepared server for the early tee times to get coffee ect, or at least equip the front desk to have a fridge with some beverage options for players who need the hair of the dog to get started. Other than that, the course and experience was top notch
My wife and I went and played as a twosome. Got scolded for taking too long even though we kept up the pace to the USGA rules and allowed others to pass if they got close. We had to play on the heels of the group ahead of us in order to keep pace per the marshals requirements.
Overall a beautiful course. Fun. A lot of wildlife. No drink caddy when we played.
I am sorry if you were rushed. Sometimes it is a fine line between keeping the pace moving and rushing golfers. I Will discuss this with our marshals to ensure they are helping our customers instead of "Scolding" them. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Hi Howie, thanks for taking time to leave us a review on Golf Advisor. If you'd like to speak with someone in the Pro Shop about your experience, please give us a call at (480) 987-9800. We hope to see you back at Johnson Ranch again soon!
Pace of play still an issue
We have played Johnson Ranch several times and the pace of play is an issue most of the time and again on our last visit. This time the non-customer focused attitude approach of the golf shop staff member was well below what we are used to at Johnson Ranch. The fairways and greens were in good shape, the tee boxes were fair to good but the sand traps were absolutely horrible. They should have been marked as GUR as they mostly were.
Hi Bob, we're sorry to hear your experience didn't meet your expectations. Customer service is our top priority at Johnson Ranch, and we'd like to discuss how we could go about making things right. Please give us a call at (480) 987-9800. We hope you'll give us another chance soon!
Wish it was closer
This course was very well maintained. The layout of the course provides challenges in a scenic setting. The various tees make the course playable for all level of golfers. I only wish it was in Tucson.
Course is in great shape compared to this time in past years I was impressed!! Keep up the good work!!

Greens were good. Fairways were in poor shape very hard
We appreciate the honest review, Poodens. We're working hard to ensure the course is in top shape for all our golfers, and we hope you'll give us another chance soon!
Course is in great shape. Bunker sand is not user friendly.
