The course was well set up, but the greens were dried out and super fast. Otherwise a nice day at the course. The on course service was excellent and always close by for anything we needed. Overall, a nice experience.
Not McCormick’s Best Showing
I normally like this course a lot but today wasn’t the best experience. Pace of play was brutal (5 1/2 hours) with no attempt by the course to move things along. Waiting on nearly every shot. The staff was less than friendly as well. They seemed put out that we didn’t choose the Pine Course and burdened them with accommodating us on the Palm. Beer cart was out of half of what they normally carry and we only saw them once the entire round. Everyone knows that fall over seeding is a little chaotic but the course can do a better job of being prepared.
Management needs improvement.
No hot dogs at the turn at 12:15 pm
No sand in the sand bottles.
Cart girl did not have normal Diet Coke bottles. Sold us little cans that turned out to be expired in Feb. 2018 and were flat.
The pace of play was way too slow as it took nearly 5 hours to complete.
Had a 9:20 tee time as a single however I had to wait till 9:45 to be paired up with another group.
If it wasn't for the excellent weather I would had been miserable.
So slow there were 4 groups backed up on a par three. Played 12 holes in 3.5 hours paid a 100 bucks terrible.
Course was in fine shape after overseeding. Pace of play fine onthe front, slowed down quite a bit on the back.
So glad I reconsidered
So glad I reconsidered. I scheduled this course last week, but read some pretty nasty reviews, and cancelled my tee time. I was talking to my son this weekend, who lives out of state, and he said you've got to go there. I reconsidered yesterday and scheduled a tee time for today around noon.
Here is what you'll find if you go there:
- staff at the check-in desk are super efficient
- I got on early.
- the carts are in great shape, and include GPS
- you start with a small bucket of range balls
- it's over seeding season, but course is still in great shape. Most courses quit watering 1-2 weeks ago
- the cart girl frequently comes by, even though there not lots of players
My review? Go there. The best round I've had this still pretty hot season, here in Phoenix. Hit em straight!
A course to appreciate and not humbled!
This course maybe near the heart of Scottsdale but it is not pretentious nor over the top like the likes of Troon North, The Boulders or Camelback! It is well maintained and has distinct personality of its own to make it both fun and challenging at the same time. Some views are appreciative minus the multi-million dollar homes that surrounds Troon or Boulders - making one less humbled but feel welcome and comfortable! Okay, so the rough are long and thick and make it difficult to find your ball if you hit a stray shot! Water hazards also come into play which contribute to its own personality! Highly recommended to anyone at all levels!
Showings it’s age
Played the Palm course for the first time in a decade and it’s a shame the course conditions have deteriorated. The majority of the course has natural grass and weeds growing through everywhere with old plugs and dirt spots that never regrew. Pace of play was excellent as there was hardly anyone else playing.
Always enjoyable golf course to play! We will be back
I played 18 holes on the Palm Course. It is a fun, challenging layout that requires all the shots from all your clubs. Sometimes right to left is required, sometimes left to right. Fairways, bunkers and greens were all on nice condition, considering it is summer in the desert. Pro-shop and range staff, and beverage cart staff very helpful and friendly. Just a really nice place to spend an afternoon!
Great venue and golf facility
Really enjoyed this course, a good challenge, practice facilities excellent.
Very Poor Experience
I hadn't played this course in about 6 months, not because I didn't like the course but because of the rude, inconsiderate and super unfriendly staff in the pro shop. Unfortunately, a friend talked me into giving it a second chance, and not surprisingly, nothing has changed. I play all over Scottsdale, and for that matter have played all over the country. Never, and I mean never, have I experienced such miserable staff members. You'd think they'd recognize they're in the service industry & treat their paying patrons better. Nope, they have a knack for being the most unfriendly, rude pro shop I've ever been to. Funny thing is I get treated much, much better when I play courses that put this one tho shame, go figure! Don't get me wrong, all I ask is for a little respect, and oh yeah, maybe a thank you would be nice. Needless to say, this place won't be getting anymore of my money. Way better course options, and much friendlier staff all over The Greater Phoenix area!!
I paid for the Palm course, but the superintendent decided to close it right as we got there, so we had to play the Pine course instead. The reason we were given was the course needed watering. Will not go back. Speaking of watering, if you play this course you better take plenty of water because there is not much out there to drink.
Lat Minute Pick
Booked this at the last minute and played 27 holes for $29! (inc. cart GPS). Course wa in great condition given time of year (very hot 104f). only issues was that the back 9 for the Palm course course was closed due to a water problem so we played the front 9 and the whole 18 on the Pine course.
Pro shop staff where excellent to deal with as so was the cart giril (Trish) whom we saw approx 5/6 times.
We have played this course numerous times over the years and it has always been one of the best deal anywhere by none.
Mothers Day should be like this everyday at McCormick. No Marshalls needed today.. yet pace of play was under 4 hours.. the way it should be when Marshals are there.
A lot of thin grassy areas due to potential fungus/blight. A lot of super wet areas due to ??Maybe a sprinkler issue or 3 ?
This course has gone WAY downhill
Played the other day and I was VERY disappointed in the condition of the course. The fairway grass was very inconsistent, especially on the back nine. There were lots of bare spots. There were a few greens in decent shape, but most looked like they were affected by a fungus which had not been treated. There are lots of better and nicer places to play in the Phoenix area, for about the same money. The course is definitely showing its age.
