Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
About
The Pine Course at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club offers mature pines, in an appropriate contrast to its sibling golf course, the Pine Course, and is also narrower than the other golf course. What they have in common include the facts that Desmond Muirhead designed both of them and they both date back to 1972; recent renovations have also given both golf courses new greens, sand traps and bridges.
The Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club measures 7,187 yards, kicking off on a 398-yard par 4 that requires tee shot toward the fairway's center, leaving golfers a mid- to short-iron from the green, which slopes narrowly. Things get long by the fourth hole, one of four par-5 holes that come in at over 500 yards; this one, for example, makes you place your drive well toward right-center if you want to shoot for it in two. Close out the round of golf on the 18th hole, another long one, at 517 yards from the blue tees, and a tight hole to drive that will, thankfully, provide your last test for the day.

McCormick Ranch Pine
Old parkland-style tree-lined course, a rarity in the Scottsdale area. Greens are very small and have a lot of undulation, and many tee shots require a well-shaped tee shot, not just a straight one. The first hole is terrible, requires a 30-50 yard fade just to hit the fairway. Remove a few trees and it would be playable.
Conditions were good, not great. Greens are pretty good speed, just a ton of ball marks on them. Tee boxes were pretty beat up, everything else was good.
Top Day
1st time playing the McCormick course, and was put on the Pines - fabulous layout and course conditions.
I was paired up with 3 playing partners, one who lived on the course community.
Definitely be on my list to play again on my revisit next year.
Over Priced
A unremarkable course filled with unremarkable
players.
Great challenge
Traditional golf. A few water hazards and lots of bunkers to avoid. The pins are seemingly always well protected and the greens drop off quickly if you are off by only a few yards. You must know the exact yardage for each shot to set yourself up for a chance to post a score. Otherwise, happy hacking, and good luck hitting into the blind unknown. Bring plenty of balls, too!
Slow and poo conditions
This course was way overpriced for the quality. The fairways were messy and their were balls everywhere from other holes. The pace of play was very slow. Waited on every hole on the back nine. 4.5 hours is too long for a simple layout.
Perfect for medium players 12-25 handicap
Loved everything but the traps - no real sand mostly gravel or muddy! Pines better than Palms!
Needs TLC
The course is a long established course. It is need of TLC with the fairways and most tee boxes. Still a decent course.
Maintenance?
The first issue was that the person who took my clubs to the cart lost my (expensive) putter cover. Then the fairways were poorly maintained, and in some cases diseased.
Greens were okay, but where's the sand. DIRT!!
To make matters worse, no one turned in my putter cover. A gentleman's game??
They stopped trying.
It looks like the ownership has stopped trying. The fairways and greens were fine, but the grass off the fairways was terrible. More weeds than grass The bunkers sand was closer to concrete.
Recent downpour required cartpath only so pace.was.great cobsidering. Bunkers were soaked.and compacted but played.okay from dry areas. Fairways were goid and greens putted truebut were.not as fast as starter had indicated. People I paired with were greay company. Staff was very welcoming
Would play again for right price but like all.Az.tracks it is overpriced
Need Marshall’s to do there job
Overall we had a good day. The only negative was they did not follow through on their starter commitment that they would be in the course regularly. The groups in front of us were over a hole behind and we were waiting on every hole. Greens were awesome and fairways in good shape as welk
Traditional Golf in AZ
It was refreshing not to see any Cactus or lizards, or any rattlesnakes. This is a traditional golf course layout. Tree lined, some water on a few holes to Navigate. You must pay attention to the course map, so you can avoid the trouble. The pins can be tricky if they want you to hate golf. Lots of undulating greens that roll faster than you think. Easy course to hone in the golf game. Plenty of distance. Lots of errant shots from other tee boxes, so don't pick up a ball that isn't yours! Pay attention. Come on, man!
