Starfire has 3, 9 hole courses. One of these courses is a short par 3 course. When you book a tee time at Starfire, you are not told what course you will be playing, even though you pay one rate for play. If you play the Hawk and the King course, it's a nice round on a full golf course. But, if you get stuck on what used to be the Squire course, which is now the Mulligan course, you do not get a full round. I booked a tee time and paid full price, only to find out that I was on the newer Mulligan course to start, then finishing on the King course. I basically paid full price to play and executive length golf course. I was very disappointed. In the future, I will be very hesitant in booking at Starfire in fear of getting ripped off by being put on a par 3 course instead of a full length, real golf course.
Arrived before 7 and greeted with friendly staff. Checked in with marginally friendly pro shop staff. Golf course conditions are average at best. Wouldn’t recommend it to single digit handicap players.
Course management lacking
Arrived for my tee time 15 minutes early and found out it would be a 40 minute wait as a tournament was finishing. Also the putting green and range were closed. Shouldn't the management of the course know about the tournament and plan accordingly? No excuse for making so many people wait. We had a five some in front of us and a group of six behind us. Other than the very slow pace of play, the course was in good shape.
Very friendly staff. Nice course. The only thing is and I can’t blame them for this is that this is twice now that I have come up on a group who literally look at me and get in on their carts even though there’s no one ahead of them for at least three or four holes. I am a single and female and I don’t know if that’s the issue but I’ve never had that in any other state that I played golf in. It’s a shame that I’ve encountered it on two different courses now out here. I told the staff and they were very apologetic.
Drainage is great
Played the day after all day monsoon & I was impressed how well the course had drained. Bunkers still had water but all in all the course was in surprising great shape. The pace of play was decent.. as a 3 ball we played in 3hr40.
Great Palmer course at a great price
The course was in great shape, the bunkers were raked and playable - no excuses; the course was there for the taking.
Too many weeds!
Course was covered in weeds and it was extremely difficult to find your ball.
Started at noon. A little late a large group had walked on ahead of us. Pace of play was great. We layed thru one threesome and finished in 3 hours.
Quality golf course
Enjoyed playing this course which is very fair and good for all levels of golfers! Course was in great shape!
staff. was very courteous!! greens and main fairways were great... but the grass on either side of the fairways were long and thick so lost quite a bit of balls because we just couldn’t find them also some tee boxes needed a bit tlc. altogether i would play it again not bad for a short course.
Nice course, if a little slow on pace of play
A nice course and generally in descent condition given the temperatures which are over 100 every day in the summer.
The pace of play was quite slow particularly on the back 9 which was a little frustrating, particularly as the course did not seem fully booked.
Good value, fairways average to poor condition
I’ve enjoyed playing this course since it was the Scottsdale Country Club. Great location, good value, greens are true and well maintained.
The fairways, however, need work. Several of my tee shots landing in the fairway had me hitting my second shot from brown grass or dirt as often as I was hitting from grass. Starfire has a well. C’mon guys use a little more water and fertilizer and give us respectable playing conditions.
Second rate citizen.
I had a 12:52 tee time and the weather was quite hot. I was there a hour early and there were many open slots ahead of me but they did not want me to start early because I used Golfnow to make the reservation. I guess I was not a valuable customer.
Definitely check this course out
The staff are very friendly and want you to enjoy your round of golf. The restaurant area is nice and the food is pretty good. The course is in pretty good shape despite the 105+ heat. the greens were all very good. The fairways were okay, but there were some dry and bare spots as expected for the time of year. Started golfing at high noon and finished in about 2 hours. Some holes can be quite challenging for the average golfer. A good course to play at a great price.
Happy to get on
Greens were good, fairways had a good deal of thin/bare spots so were moving the ball to grass but lots of interesting holes. Not especially fond of playing between neighborhoods but all in all I enjoyed the day and played with a very personable young man who made the round very fun.
