Grass Clippings at Rolling Hills
About
The executive-length Grass Clippings at Rolling Hills (formerly known as Rolling Hills Golf Course) provides an excellent game and it is a very player-friendly course. True to its name, the course is quite hilly causing a few elevation changes and undulating greens. The fairways are lined with pretty trees, adding some challenge and beauty to the course. There are no water hazards but there are a few strategically placed bunkers to worry about as well as some out-of-bounds stakes bordering a few of the holes. Grass Clippings at Rolling Hills consists of ten par 3s and eight par 4s. On the premises there are also practice facilities, a pro shop, and an on-site golf pro.

Excellent greens
I've playing here on a regular basis and this around, it was different. The course was in good condition with excellent staff.
$70 not worth it
This course is even shorter than it was before and now it’s more than double the price. Not worth the hype. $70 for 3400 yards is robbery.
Got Ripped OFF
Showed up to play and clubhouse didn't warn anything about back 9 closed and pretty much rest of course a disaster. No tee boxes except 3 holes. The dude at the front desk needs to be fired for not telling people until after you pay and show up to cart. I will never go back to this course I don't care how great they make it. Troon management is a rip off company!!
Par 63 course for beginners and kids
The City of Tempe must not be running this course anymore. The course is undergoing many positive improvements; including new facilities that will turn it into an entertainment destination with par 3 golf. The pictures of their plans outside the pro shop makes it look like it will have a live music venue and outside bar with TVs. Once all the tourists and hackers arrive the golf rounds will be really long. I thought the golf was too expensive for what it was.
Not revommended
They have converted the front nine to all short par 3’s. Also hitting off a carpet rather than a regular tee box. All this did is slow down the pace of play.
Not for any serious golfers at all.
I didn’t get to play the back nine as it was closed - we had to do the front twice. So didn’t bother to play,
Not sure what the logic was in making thus vourse even shorter - terrible golf experience.
Beware, this is basically only a pitch and putt
Only on the back 9 they have a few par 4 holes, we were told. But we never saw the back nine as they were closed off. We had to play the front none twice. ALL par 3. Rip off, if you ask me. Water of a good day that could have been spent on a real golf course.
Beware - this is basically just a 9-hole pitch and put
... well, that's what I would call it anyway. Only par 3 holes on the front nine and the back nine were closed off (and mainly consist of par 3 holes as well, we were told). $50 is far too much for that. We will not be back, that's for sure.
Bad first showing
Been going to Rolling Hills for years now.
Under new ownership so as Grass Clipping so came to check it out. Club house was very unwelcoming. They didn’t mention that only front 9 was available until we went to tee off..
Course under a lot of work, but felt slighted with a mediocre experience. Hopefully when construction is complete it will be a better experience.
Played 11/6/23 the course is definitely a work in progress. Doubled you 1 thru 9 to make the loop 18.
Everyone is super customer service oriented and excited about the end game of bringing 18 hole executives course totally under the lights. They have a plan and I’m sure looking forward to it happening. The food truck crew is absolutely fantastic with yummy Mexican fare…10 thumbs up. Bev cart young lady is fun. Give it go👍🏻
Course experience
They are remodeling, but they made two Par 3 options to make up for the loss of hole 9, and we were allowed to play twice since 18 holes is the preferred experience. Overall, the conditions did make an impact of gameplay, but they are making lots of changes.
Go play mini golf with your girlfriend instead of spending $20 at this course.
I’ve probably played this course 50 plus times. I understand that they are under construction the revamp the course, night golf, etc. I’m fully aware that this is rolling hills and not TPC Scottsdale. Fast forward to today… hole number 3 got split into two holes. Cool. Pull up to the first “green” the flag is legit in the middle of the old fairway. Absolutely mind boggling that they remain to charge more then they did in previous years for a construction site of 9 holes (back 9 shut down). The guy at the desk said it’s great value for the price. I would strongly disagree. I don’t think they could pay me to play in that.
Rolling Hills- don't bother until it's fixed
Paid $42 a person to play 18 holes, no mention that course was under construction. Arrived and checked in in clubhouse, person working there said nothing except see the starter. Starter informed us that only 8 holes were playable(but we could play the 8 holes twice), since the entire back 9 was under construction. At this course the back 9 is the best part of it. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WE WERE NOT OFFERED A DISCOUNT BY SOMEONE!!
WILL NOT COME BACK UNTIL IT OPENS BACK UP AGAIN!!
never again
was a good place to play but management changed name changed and the price went up not worth the money this time of year this will be my last time playing here after 12 years sad
No Warning ⚠️
I've played this course for years and know what to expect. It's a short course to play in a pinch usually kept up somewhat. Today I was very disappointed that there was no heads up on this app of the back 9 and hole 9 being closed. The guy in the pro shop said they can't control what goes on golf now but that was just a cop out. Don't play here right now there are plenty of courses around. I am looking forward to their night course!
Only 8 holes
I love playing this course, but at the moment there are only 8 hole’s available. If you pay for 18, you’ll would have to play the front 8 twice. Hole 3 is split in half, they have made it into 2 par 3. The entire back nine is closed, and also hole 9 due to renovation.
I will return after the summer. They have a great them coming for next year, and I can’t wait. Night Golf!
