About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Cahoon Plantation in Chesapeake originally opened with a 27-hole layout but it has seen a major transformation since opening. One of the nines was eliminated and the flat terrain was molded into a gently rolling championship layout. The golf course has mostly parkland holes but there are some that have a links-feel, guaranteeing that there's enough variety to please any golfer. The layout is mostly wide open with very few trees to obscure the views. Water comes into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are a few strategically placed bunkers as well. The 15th hole is Cahoon Plantation's best par 3. The green is well protected by bunkers and a small pond but there is still an opportunity for a birdie, which will probably be your last chance for one before you face the difficult closing stretch of holes.

Let down!
Over the last two years in my opinion Calhoon Plantation is that the course has be one of the best kept secret and the condition of the golf course WAS impeccable. But this time the condition of the fairways was suprisely average. I guess the online deals have finally taken their toll on the fairways. My round only cost $26.00 dollars. After the first hole I had to wait for the one of the grounds crew to cut or perform maintenance on every green until I reached hole 18. I could not believe the guy would not defer to me and let me just hit my approach shot. It was frustrating to know that after every drive I had to wait for a maintenance guy to clear the green. I should have called the Pro Shop. Again my cost was less that $30.00 which minimized my disappoint in the condition of the fairways and lack the of foresight and self awareness from the maintenance guy. His focus was on maintaining or recondioning the green instead of letting a customer play through. It was the worst experience I ever had playing there, but I will not let one bad experience keep me from coming back.
Great folks
Green grass when the local Bermuda is still brown. Some tight parallel fairways, but friendly staff and good margaritas more than compensate.
Tournament conditions at Cahoon.
An amazing day with friends on a course set up for any tournament.
Green fair ways in December!
Love this golf course, probably my favorite .The discount enhanced the experience! Hoping to come back in a few days.
Good course
Good course for a decent price. Always in a good condition.
NTS a always
Cahoon is always good especially when the Bermuda courses are going dormant. Always enjoy playing there. Greens were fast and the ruff was no joke.
Best course year round!
My go to course in the area. Best playing conditions year round. I just wish golf courses in general didn’t make it so hard to play a practice round by yourself. I paid for a full round, single golfer, and I understand they have to pair singles up when it is busy, but I shouldn’t have to pay $15 extra dollars to have my own cart when the other single at that time got their cart included. Furthermore, the starter let me play by myself so I paid $15 extra for nothing. I know true golfers trying to improve their game will agree, sometimes you just want to work on your game alone.
Used to be a nice track...
Course has been overwatered. Poor drainage. Staff not accommodating, nor personable. Last time I waste my money there. Hear it's closing soon anyway. Don't waste your time or money.
Tough course
Conditions are great at this course, however every par 5 has water in front of the green preventing you from getting there in 2 unless you carry the ball 250 with a 3 wood...the greens are almost unputtable from some positions...I was in the area for two weeks and this was my worst round of golf...I shot 87 here with 34 putts but shot 72 the next day at Virginia Beach national...I guess that's golf. I hit the green on 10 about 8 feet above the hole and tapped my putt, it ended up off the green 20 feet away...that's either poor pin placement or insane green speeds
Very poor management
Have had a few problems at this course with very slow play, poor course management and especially the people that management lets play this course for free - trashing the course and demonstrating very poor golf etiquette. It very disappointing that a potentially great course could be run in the ground by poor management. I know a number of people who have had similar experiences and refuse to play there any more.
Diamond in the rough
Very nice course in excellent condition when we played there back in June. Greens were true and fairways were in perfect condition. Would definitely play there again. One caution would be carful if looking for a ball in the rough as my son saw a large snake there.
Lived up to the hype
Prior to playing for the first time today, I had heard the course was one of the best in Hampton Roads. The staff was very welcoming in both the pro shop, and the grill. The course was in great shape, and fairly challenging. I look forward to my next round.
Nice Course
Cahoon is in great condition. Tee boxes are a little chewed up but that's expected anywhere that gets heavy play. Fairways are in good shape. If lazy people would repair there divots the fairways would be perfect. Please get some sand in those bunkers. Greens are great. They roll nice.
Golfnow Info Incorrect
Golfnow should update their info. The course is 18 holes, with 4-5 sets of tees, black, blue, white, gold, red. The picture shown no longer exist.
