About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Cahoon Plantation in Chesapeake originally opened with a 27-hole layout but it has seen a major transformation since opening. One of the nines was eliminated and the flat terrain was molded into a gently rolling championship layout. The golf course has mostly parkland holes but there are some that have a links-feel, guaranteeing that there's enough variety to please any golfer. The layout is mostly wide open with very few trees to obscure the views. Water comes into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are a few strategically placed bunkers as well. The 15th hole is Cahoon Plantation's best par 3. The green is well protected by bunkers and a small pond but there is still an opportunity for a birdie, which will probably be your last chance for one before you face the difficult closing stretch of holes.

Nicest Course in Chesapeake
Played here Friday with a group of guys for my bachelor party. Course got a ton of rain Thursday. Many courses in the area were not playable. Cahoon drains very well. Cart path only, but it was to be expected with the amount of rain that we had.
Played from the Black tees because my brother in law is a scratch golfer. Of course the rest of us hackers had no business playing from the back tee boxes but couldn't let him show us up. I guess its a man thing. I am a bogey golfer, but shot a 97 from the black tee boxes. Danny shot a 75, haha.
It was a wonderful day, beautiful course, challenging but fun. Thanks for the good time!
A very nice course in a new housing development
Played very quickly on a Thursday, just over 3 hours. Course is intermingled in a very nice housing development in Chesapeake, Va.
Course conditions were very good, fast, firm greens, with minimal height of rough. People in the food area recommended a very good place for us to eat after the round.
In total, a very nice course, which we played at half price, due to Golfnow.
cut the fringe around the green
The course is beautiful but to hit the green with a long shot and not be able to find you're ball one foot off the green is ridiculous , I haven't seen to many tour players out there . MOW the fringe let the ball roll off a little
Nice greens
Great greens a little confusing on course lay out a bit of drainage problems on some holes but overall challenging good course
Pure Golfing Experience
While Cahoon was a little on the wet side, it played surprisingly fair. Hitting fairways are a must, with side-hill lies abundant throughout the course. Greens were manicured and rolling at a good clip. Challenging holes with forced carries will certainly give the average golfer a hard time. Only complaint, the grounds crews didn't appear interested in oncoming golfers. Kind of annoying.
don't get off the fairways
I forgot that when you go wide you will likely lose the ball. Unfortunately some of my shots got a little loose so my score was not so good but the course is a great layout and in good shape.
Best course in tidewater
Bentgrass tee to green. Very open links style course. A bit pricey unless you play in the afternoon.

This course is very well kept! Courteous staff!!!
This is my third visit, the staff is very friendly and the pace of play is steady, but can be really slow on the weekends. Overall, it's a great course.
Great greens
Great day. The greens and fairways were in excellent condition.
Cahoon is in great shape
Play this course, its a must play in south east Virginia.
This course is worth the money
By far, the best course I've played in the area. This course is in much better shape than all of the other courses I played this weekend. The more I have played in recent years, the more I appreciate the money spent at Cahoon. The difficulty on the back is much greater and would prefer playing the front for scoring.
The nightly rains we had two days prior caused the course to be a little soft and your higher angled shots didn't get their distance on the fairways and greens. My only issue with the course is the types of players who lose their balls and can't seem to keep pace with other groups. As a three/foursome, make sure that players do their part to keep track of each others swings in case the rough gobbles up your ball.
Great conditions
Was on vacation and decided to play. Course was in excellent condition. Fair test, with multiple tees to challenge any skill level. Would love to play again.
This course has a nice layout.
I would like to play this course under better conditions. The weather was a little chilly and the greens had been worked on. However I still enjoyed the course and will definitely return later in the spring.
Greens ! horrible !
The Greens had just been aerated. All of the 18 at the same time. Unfortunately, no mention of this was communicated to us. I think this is an important note to communicate since putting is half of the game !
Knowing this, we can still chose to play there, or chose another course.
We were denied that choice.
I'll be back
This course played very well. It has plenty of challenges but wasn't overly difficult. The only problem was that the greens had been aerated which made putting a problem. However, from the tee up to the green was in very good shape for this time of year. The staff was friendly and we had plenty of options as the beverage cart came by us several times in our round. For the money it was okay, and I can only see it being better once the greens are in shape.
Decent course
The course was in poor shape only because it was so muddy and the back nine was shut down due to being aerated. They let us play the front 9 twice but it was aerated the day before so obviously the greens were terrible and extremely sandy. Golf Now should let people know about the conditions of the course or the course should. Plus there is a lot of construction going on around the course. I would call ahead and ask the condition before we go again. And also make sure it hasn't rained anytime before you go because it retains water really bad.
For future reference, when you come to this area to play golf, ASK the proshop BEFORE you make your tee time. April and Sept/Oct are typically the time all the courses in this area are punching the greens. Some courses also big punch the fairways after the greens have healed. It's too bad you had that experience, I have had that playing in Myrtle Beach in the fall and it's like you didn't get your moneys worth.
