Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa
About
The Catalina Course is one of two golf courses at Omni Tucson National Resort. It is more well known than its sister course, the Sonoran, since it is both the original layout and it has been host to over 30 PGA Tour events over the years. The Catalina Course is a traditional parkland layout while the Sonoran offers true desert golf, as its name would imply. The challenging design incorporates eight sparkling lakes and a total of 80 bunkers strategically placed throughout. The 18th is touted as one of the finest and most demanding finishing holes on the PGA Tour. This tricky par 4 leaves little room for error with water along both sides of the fairway, it also requires a blind tee shot to a well-protected, elevated green.

#16 plays fairly steeply uphill. I was 16 inches for a birdie, after hitting a solid 135 club from 109 out. Photo submitted by Jonathan5270953 on 08/14/2013

Great day at Tucson National
Staff was friendly as soon as we got to the course. Pace of play was great and a ranger came around twice. Course was a great shape, will definitely come back.
Visiting and old friend
Have played the course at least once a year over the last 20 years. Still a good test of golf. Always in great condition. Staff and amenities are excellent.
Pricey but….
This time of year the best Tucson courses can get higher priced than what I like to pay, but Tucson National keeps their courses in pristine condition. Fast greens and the winter grass in the fairways is getting lusher every day. The Sonoran course is one you need to play more than once. Tom Lehman messes with your visuals off the tee on more than one hole. What a great mix of long and short holes, elevation changes, desert holes and fairways lined with homes. He gives you room to miss, just don’t spray it around too much.
Great shape
Always one of the best manicured. Plays long with elevated greens and tough bunkers. Lots of shade with traditional style tree lined fairways
No Rain Check or Lightning Warnings
Course is fantastic. Nice change of pace from the typical desert courses we have in Tucson. The only knock is the lack of customer service. We only got three holes in before the lightning and rain forced us off the course. Tried calling the next day and they were not accommodating. Let this be a warning to check the forecast, and take that into account during monsoon season.
Rains too much...
We’ve had inundating rains, so conditions reflect it.
Soft, a bit of dirt and patchiness on fairways (lush in the rough).
Greens had been plugged but are returning, ok speed, a few bald spots.
Great course but the heavy rain and constant wetness have taken a toll. Still worth a visit.
A challenge due to length, conditions, and layout.
Decent value, will return!
Excellent
Deceptively difficult yet very golfer friendly without the penalizing desert like many courses. Always in great shape even when grasses are transitioning. Be sure to practice your bunker shots.
Sonoran Course
Target golf with challenging bunkers. Great course with a lot of elevation change.
Birthday at Tucson National
My son and I played for my 71st birthday. Staff was great. Starter got us off 10 minutes early. Played with a nice member couple. No waiting. No rush. Finished in 3 hrs and 45 minutes. Course was in great shape.
