Sonoran Course at Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa
About
The Omni Tucson National Resort offers two championship courses that offer two distinctly different rounds. The Catalina Course, the resort's original course, offers a more traditional parkland layout while the Sonoran Course offers a challenging game of true desert golf. Although Catalina is the more famous of the two for hosting a number of PGA Tour events over the years, the Sonoran is just as formidable a test despite being 600 yards shorter than its sister course. Sonoran features a tricky, undulating terrain that is covered with 69 large, strategically placed bunkers. Two lakes come into play throughout the golf course as well. In addition to a number of challenging holes, the layout offers interesting risk-reward opportunities including drivable par 4s. One of the most notable holes is the 15th, a dramatic par 5 that requires a blind approach uphill to a bunkered green.

#16 plays fairly steeply uphill. I was 16 inches for a birdie, after hitting a solid 135 club from 109 out. Photo submitted by Jonathan5270953 on 08/14/2013

Awesome Golfcourse
The excellent, albeit challenging conditions along with perfect weather and great pace of play resulted in the nicest round I have played anywhere in a very long time.
The courses here are being prepped for a Champions Tour event next week. The greens are smooth as pool tables and stimped out at 12. Lots of blind shots makes your first round here even more challenging. The views from many of the holes are nothing short of breathtaking and the many serious elevation changes add a lot of "wow" factor.
I can't wait to play here again.
Always GREAT
Always a great course to play. Looking forward to the Seniors PGA Tour coming soon. Hope to attend. UA had a match with Colorado State, I think that may have caused play to be slow. Those young guys can really hit that ball. Wow
Playing Omni courses
First class facility that is run friendly but professionally. Have played these courses many times and they always rate at the top of my tucson to play list!
Beautiful course
This is a beautiful course with some challenges. There are some forced carries over water, elevated greens, and mini sand traps strategically placed around the greens. I played an extremely fast round because it was a windy day and most golfers must have bailed out. Come early and enjoy warming up on the range where balls are provided for you. Carts didn't have GPS, which I expected, but that is not a big deal.
Loved this course..
This course is manicured very well. the fairways and greens are excellent. I have always wondered what the pro tour course conditions were like... now I know. Excellent experience for me to play Tucson National!
Excellent!
Outstanding condition and pace of play was 4hrs for 18 holes.
Great new course for our rotation
A group of old friends have been meeting up in Tucson for 7 or 8 years. The guys play golf while the girls go to the gem show or hike around in the area. We've been looking for a new course to add to the ones we've been playing and I think we have found a good one. Very nice course conditions with a good practice facility to warm up on.
Excellent Golf Course
Played the Sonoran course. Fantastic track, very playable and enjoyable versus some of the mountain style / tricked out courses in the area. Course conditions were excellent. Greens smooth as silk. A solid test though not terribly difficult. Highly recommend.
good course, great personnel.
Overall a well maintained course. Fairly flat and moderate in length from the silver tees. A few elevated, bunkered holes were a bit of a surprise considering that otherwise the course was pretty straightforward. Really friendly staff from the folks greeting at the bag drop off, to the folks in the pro shop as well as the waitstaff. All around a fun experience and will return.
Must play course!
Wonderful course in superb condition. A very well maintained course that is very challenging. Great greens!
Bill's take
Enjoyed the course. Greens are relatively fast. Course knowledge would be helpful, e.g. how far are bunkers, elevation changes. I'd certainly play again.
Quality Course, Superb Greens
This was my first time playing Tucson National - Catalina. Playing from the blue tees was quite challenging and these were the best greens I have ever played on! Staff and facilities are great.
Excellent condition but needs rangers
We arrived early for our 12:40 tee time and were told that there was a 1 hour frost delay. We spent the time waiting by taking advantage of the excellent driving, chipping and putting facilities and having a beer and snack in the bar. All good. When we teed off I asked the starter if he thought we would finish before dark. "Oh sure", he replied, "we have Rangers out there keeping everyone moving". We never saw a ranger and had to wait 10-15 minutes on each hole. The course was in excellent condition and is an interesting layout, but we only got in 16 holes, last 2 in the dark. For the kind of dough they charge and with everyone starting late I would have expected some ranger support
Great desert course
Very nice course, challenging, but for the most part fair. Some blind holes, which made it difficult for playing it first time around.
First time here
This was my first time at this course and I was signed up as a single with a threesome that did not show so that added to the difficulty. And my game was rusty but I still really enjoyed the course.
Very, very nice
Great condition and a real joy to play. Staff were super friendly and very helpful. A good value for your playing dollars.
perfect
the grass of the fairway in the Green was perfect! The course play a little tough because it has desert on some sides of some holes but the fairways are generous and that grass is great to hit from. Rings were a little speedy but really nice and they held the ball. Beautiful views and a gorgeous day!
Had the course to ourselves
I paired up with another single and we never had anyone ahead or behind us the entire round. It was a Monday, but a Monday before Veteran's Day; so I figured it would still be crowded. Had a leisurely round of golf and made a new golfing buddy.
Mature course with some history
I was attracted to the course because of its past hosting of a PGA Tour event. Magnificent tall trees line the fairways. Unusual in this area. Greens with good speed. Average design and layout.
